Caulerpa chemnitzia polysaccharide exerts immunomodulatory activity in macrophages by mediating the succinate/PHD2/HIF-1α/IL-1β pathway.

Algal polysaccharide is an important food functional factor with diverse bioactive and low toxicity. Previous studies have confirmed Caulerpa chemnitzia polysaccharides (CRVP) have immunomodulatory activity, but the immunomodulatory mechanism of CRVP in macrophages has not been thoroughly explored yet. In our research, we found that CRVP has outstanding immunomodulatory activity in macrophages, which is reflected in promoting cell proliferation, upregulating cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α) expression, and increasing NO and ROS levels. Additionally, the result of joint analysis of untargeted

Influence of artificial light at night (ALAN) on the growth of two marine macroalgae, Gracilaria coronopifolia and Caulerpa lentillifera, in a tropical system.

Artificial light at night (ALAN) has increased worldwide along urbanised coastlines, yet the effects on marine photoautotrophs remain poorly understood. Macroalgae are habitat-forming species that provide essential ecosystem services in coastal environments and any factor impairing their performance may have far-reaching ecological consequences. This study investigated the effects of ALAN on growth rate, oxygen evolution, and palatability in two tropical macroalgae, Gracilaria coronopifolia (Rhodophyta) and Caulerpa lentillifera (Chlorophyta), from Penang, Malaysia. Samples were maintained und

Caulerpa okamurae extract inhibits adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and prevents high-fat diet-induced obesity in C57BL/6 mice.

Seaweeds are considered a potential source of antiobesity agents. Because Caulerpa, a seaweed, has been consumed for food in Japan, China, South Korea, and Australia, we hypothesized that Caulerpa okamurae may have antiobesity effects in an animal model of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in C57BL/6 mice. Herein, we found that the ethanolic extract of C okamurae (COE) significantly inhibited lipid accumulation and reduced the expression of the master regulator of adipogenesis, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ, sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c, and CCAAT/enhancer-bind

A dietary sulfated polysaccharide from edible green alga Caulerpa chemnitzia modulates immune responses associated with host metabolism and gut microbiota in cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppressed mice.

Sulfated polysaccharides from edible marine algae have attracted increasing interest as dietary components with immune-supporting potential. Caulerpa chemnitzia, an edible green alga widely distributed in Indo-Pacific regions, has long been consumed fresh as a vegetable and is rich in sulfated polysaccharides. In our previous study, a sulfated polysaccharide fraction (CRVP) isolated from the edible green alga Caulerpa chemnitzia was structurally characterized and shown to regulate macrophage immune responses in vitro. However, its in vivo immunomodulatory effects and functional relevance as a

Comparative analysis of bio-oil quality from macroalgae via microwave and ultrasonic pretreatment subjected to hydrothermal liquefaction.

Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) offers a sustainable method for producing bio-oil from algal biomass. Evaluating the microwave- and ultrasonic-pretreatment HTL and examining the quality of bio-oil obtained from HTL of marine macroalgae, namely Sargassum and Caulerpa, are the main objectives and novelty behind this work. Algal feedstocks were pretreated by microwave (500 W and 600 W) or ultrasonic (50 W and 75 W) before heating up to 350 oC for 35 min in the HTL reactor. Results showed that Sargassum and Caulerpa displayed completely different behaviors in pretreatment. The bio-oil yield from S
