Goblet cells were visualized in impression cytology specimens from bulbar conjunctiva of the rabbit eye using Giemsa staining. Highly magnified images were used to generate outlines of the goblet cells and their characteristic eccentric nuclei. Using sets of 10 cells from 15 cytology specimens, I found that the longest dimension of the goblet cells averaged 16.7 ± 2.3 μm, the shortest dimension averaged 14.4 ± 1.8 μm and the nucleus averaged 6.3 ± 0.8 μm. Clinical and morphologic features of seven T-cell lymphomas of the large cell type are described. The tumors were grouped into those with irregular (3 cases) and those with round and regular nuclei (4 cases). The main aim of this work is to present a special method for conjunctival impression cytology (CIC) and objective measures of measure cell and nucleus dimensions. CIC using Millicell® Biopore filters was obtained from 50 Caucasian adults from the nasal bulbar conjunctiva. Morphometric analysis of cell-nucleus size was undertaken in 300 cases of malignant non-Hodgkin lymphomas. The results were compared with histological findings and survival time. It was found that the histological lymphoma groups differ significantly only occasionally with regard to nucleus size. Cancer cells are known to have alterations compared to healthy cells, but can these differences extend to the way cells interact with their environment? PURPOSE: The aim of this paper was to assess the morphological features of cells stained with rose Bengal along the human eyelid marginal zone (Marx's line).
METHODS: Impression cytology (IC) specimens were taken using a Millicell-CM filter unit placed across Marx's line of the lower eyelid of 10 healthy male adults (aged 18 to 57 years). In vivo staining with rose Bengal was used in some subjects to highlight the line. The filters were stained with Giemsa.
