Response surface optimization of abiotic elicitors for betalain production and antioxidant capacity in Celosia argentea cell suspension cultures.

Betalains are natural pigments with diverse biological properties found in Celosia argentea var. plumosa, a member of the Amaranthaceae family. This study established an optimized cell suspension culture system for enhanced betalain production from C. argentea var. plumosa through combined elicitor treatment. Three elicitors were evaluated: 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), methyl jasmonate (MeJA), and copper sulfate (CuSO4), using response surface methodology (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD). Under standard conditions, maximum total betalain content (TBC) and dry weight reached 35.61 mg

Integrating in vivo metabolism, pharmacokinetics, and dual-indicator scoring for PK-marker selection of Celosiae Semen saponins.

The total saponins from Celosiae Semen (TSCS) show hepatoprotective and lipid-lowering effects against metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). However, their in vivo metabolic fate and holistic pharmacokinetic (PK) features remain largely uncharacterized. In this study, an integrated PK-marker screening strategy was established by combining in vivo metabolic profiling, area under the curve (AUC)-weighted composite PK analysis, and a dual-indicator scoring model that weights both systemic exposure and in vitro lipid-lowering activity. A total of 25 saponins were charac

Celosiae Semen and Celosin I alleviate postmenopausal osteoporosis by inhibiting ferroptosis through the Nrf2/GPX4 pathway.

BACKGROUND: Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is characterized by bone loss and high fracture risk, with emerging evidence implicating ferroptosis in its pathogenesis. Celosiae Semen (CS) strengthens bones and contains saponins that may reduce ferroptosis, but the mechanisms are not well understood. PURPOSE: To determine whether total saponins of CS (TSCS) attenuate PMOP through the Nrf2/GPX4 pathway and whether Celosin I (CI) reproduces TSCS's core therapeutic effects. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Network pharmacology identified CS-related targets and pathways in osteoporosis. TSCS components

Nutrient content of young cassava leaves and assessment of their acceptance as a green vegetable in Nigeria.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) leaves contained a high level of crude protein (29.3-32.4% dry weight) compared to a conventional vegetable, Amaranthus (19.6%). Ash was 4.6-6.4% in cassava leaf samples but 13.1% dry weight in Amaranthus. Dietary fibre was very high in all samples (26.9-39% dry weight) while HCN-potential was low (5.1-12.6 mg/100 g dry weight). Tannin was the highest in IITA red cassava leaves (29.7 mg/g) and the lowest in Amaranthus vegetable. In vitro digestibility was very low in oven dried samples (15.6-22.7%). Blanching increased protein content (except Amaranthus) and

The dual face of microglia (M1/M2) as a potential target in the protective effect of nutraceuticals against neurodegenerative diseases.

The pathophysiology of different neurodegenerative illnesses is significantly influenced by the polarization regulation of microglia and macrophages. Traditional classifications of macrophage phenotypes include the pro-inflammatory M1 and the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotypes. Numerous studies demonstrated dynamic non-coding RNA modifications, which are catalyzed by microglia-induced neuroinflammation. Different nutraceuticals focus on the polarization of M1/M2 phenotypes of microglia and macrophages, offering a potent defense against neurodegeneration. Caeminaxin A, curcumin, aromatic-turmerone
