[Variation of pH and chemical composition of precipitation by multi-step sampling in summer of Beijing 2007].

In order to understand variations of pH and chemical composition of precipitation in Beijing, 5 precipitation events in summer time of 2007 were sampled step by step sequentially on time, and the variations of pH, EC and the characterization of water-soluble ion such as NH4+, SO4(2-) and NO3(-) were analyzed. The results showed that pH was 5.70 +/- 0.73 in the beginning (before-35 min) and the precipitation was not acidic, but in the steady period (after-35 min) pH was 4.35 +/- 0.56 and the raining water presented acidity actually. Simultaneously, pH, EC and concentration of ions decreased rap

Phosphorus release and recovery by reductive dissolution of chemically precipitated phosphorus from simulated wastewater.

Chemically mediated recovery of phosphorous (P) as vivianite from the sludges generated by chemical phosphorus removal (CPR) is a potential means of enhancing sustainability of wastewater treatment. This study marks an initial attempt to explore direct P release and recovery from lab synthetic Fe-P sludge via reductive dissolution using ascorbic acid (AA) under acidic conditions. The effects of AA/Fe molar ratio, age of Fe-P sludge and pH were examined to find the optimum conditions for Fe-P reductive solubilization and vivianite precipitation. The performance of the reductive, chelating, and

Morphological and chemical analysis of different precipitates on mineral trioxide aggregate immersed in different fluids.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the ultrastructures and chemical compositions of precipitates formed on mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA; White ProRoot MTA) immersed in distilled water (DW) or phosphate buffered saline (PBS), based on the attribution that MTA's bioactivity and sealing ability are influenced by its interaction with the external fluid environment. After 1 and 14 days of immersion, precipitates formed on MTA disks were analyzed using wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy electron probe microanalyzer with image observation function (SEM-EPMA; EPMA1601, Shimadzu, Kyoto,

A modified BAF system configuring synergistic denitrification and chemical phosphorus precipitation: Examination on pollutants removal and clogging development.

The performance of a BAF system configuring simultaneous chemical phosphorus precipitation in the pre-denitrification stage was examined using a continuously operated setup to treat real domestic wastewater. The effects of using no chemical, dosing sole Fe(2+), and dosing combined Fe(2+), PAM, and NaHCO3 in the pre-denitrification tank were assessed by monitoring COD, nitrogen, and phosphorus removal and hydraulic headloss development in the BAF column. Though dosing sole Fe(2+) significantly enhanced phosphorus removal, it would consume alkalinity through hydrolysis and form smaller-sized slu

Enhancing chemical phosphorus precipitation from tapioca starch anaerobic digestion effluent in a modified pilot-scale fluidized bed reactor.

This study aimed to evaluate the possibility of P precipitation as struvite from real anaerobic digestion (AD) effluent of tapioca starch processing. The results showed that at a pH of 9, and without Mg:P molar adjustment, P recovery was at 85%. The percentage of P recovery was increased to 90% and P contained in precipitates was at 11.80-14.70 wt% P, which is higher than commercial single superphosphate fertilizer (SSP, 18-22 wt% P2O5). This was achieved by controlling mixing at 200-400 rpm and upflow velocity at 50-200 cm min-1 inside a fluidized bed reactor (FBR). Based on SEM-EDX, powder X

Sustainable nutrients recovery and recycling by optimizing the chemical addition sequence for struvite precipitation from raw swine slurries.

Livestock farming contributes heavily to nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) flows into the environment, a major cause of eutrophication of coastal and freshwater systems. Furthermore, the growing demand for N-P fertilizers is increasing the emission of anthropogenic reactive N into the atmosphere and the depletion of the current P reserves. Therefore, it is essential to minimize the anthropogenic impact on the environment and recycle the wasted N-P for agricultural reuse. This study focused on enhancing struvite (MgNH4PO4*6H2O) precipitation from raw swine slurries in batch and laboratory-scale r

The impact of volcanic gases from Miyake island on the chemical constituents in precipitation in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

The volcano on Miyake Island first erupted in July 2000 and continuous emission of volcanic gas from the collapsed caldera has been observed from the middle of August 2000. The large volcanic emission of SO2 had a strong influence on Tokyo metropolitan area, which is located approximately 150 km north of Miyake Island. We measured major ions in precipitation and dry deposition samples which had been collected at five sampling sites (Yokohama, Kashiwa, Fujisawa, Yokosuka, and Hachioji) in the Tokyo metropolitan area for 12 years since 1990. We have evaluated quantitatively the impact of the vol

Feasibility study on enhancing the biodegradability of fresh and old landfill leachate using combined chemical precipitation and Fenton processes.

Landfill leachate (LL), due to its high concentrations of heavy metals, ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N), and persistent organic compounds, requires effective pretreatment before biological treatment. This study evaluated a three-stage approach-chemical precipitation with lime, ammonia stripping, and Fenton oxidation-for fresh and old leachate from the Aradkooh Waste Processing Complex in Tehran. Lime dosages of 9 g/L for fresh and 18 g/L for old leachate were determined from preliminary experiments.; these values were selected due to their favorable performance in reducing heavy metals and NH₃-N. [Removal of calcium and high-strength ammonia nitrogen from the wastewater of rare-earth elements hydrometallurgical process by chemical precipitation].

A lot of high-strength ammonia nitrogen wastewater is generated in the ion-type rare-earth elements hydrometallurgical process. Magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP) precipitation was chosen to remove the ammonia nitrogen from the wastewater after Ca2+ was eliminated using Na2CO3 to generate CaCO3 precipitate, because the wastewater contained a lot of Ca2+, and Ca2+ was an important impact factor for MAP precipitation. Central composite design (CCD) is a principal response surface methodology (RSM) used in experimental design. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the factors in

Sequential electrodialytic recovery of phosphorus from low-temperature gasification ashes of chemically precipitated sewage sludge.

Phosphorus recycling from secondary materials like sewage sludge ashes offers an alternative to mining of phosphates from primary resources and a mean to counteract the current phosphorous rock depletion concern. A separation of P from the bulk ash is normally required, due to its low plant availability and the presence of heavy metals. Previously, more than 80% of P was recovered from incineration sewage sludge ashes using a two-compartment electrodialytic cell. In contrast, the recovery was below 30% for ashes from low-temperature gasification using the same setup. The low recovery was due t

Using a chemical equilibrium model to predict amendments required to precipitate phosphorus as struvite in liquid swine manure.

Precipitation of phosphate minerals from liquid swine manure is an established means of reducing the orthophosphate (OP) concentration. This project investigated the usefulness of a chemical equilibrium model, Visual Minteq, for prescribing the amendments needed to maximize struvite precipitation from liquid swine manure and thus reduce the OP phosphorus concentration. The actual concentrations of Mg(2+), Ca(2+), K(+), OP, NH(4)(+), alkalinity and pH from a liquid swine manure system were used as inputs to the model. The model was modified to remove species with extremely low formation rates,

Physico-Chemical Properties of Granular Sorbents Based on Natural Bentonite Modified by Polyhydroxocations of Aluminum and Iron (III) by Co-Precipitation.

The physicochemical and adsorption properties of granular sorbents based on natural bentonite and modified sorbents based on it have been studied. It was found that modification of natural bentonite with iron (III) polyhydroxocations (mod. 1_Fe_5 GA) and aluminum (III) (mod. 1_Al_5 GA) by the "co-precipitation" method leads to a change in their chemical composition, structure, and sorption properties. It is shown that modified sorbents based on natural bentonite are finely porous (nanostructured) objects with a predominance of pores measuring 1.5-8.0 nm, with a specific surface area of 55-65 m

Co-occurrence of endogenous denitrification and bio-induced phosphorus precipitation in aerobic granular sludge for treating low chemical oxygen demand/nitrogen wastewater.

This study investigated an aerobic granule sludge process with concurrent endogenous denitrification (ED) and bio-induced phosphorus precipitation (BIPP) in an anaerobic/aerobic sequencing batch reactor under elevated influent alkalinity and a sludge retention time exceeding 60 days. At an influent low chemical oxygen demand/nitrogen (COD/N) ratio of 2.9, the system achieved simultaneous total nitrogen and total phosphorus removal efficiencies of 85.2 % and 98.6 %, respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis suggested the presence of hydroxyapatite (HAP) in the mineral-rich cores of large granule

Simultaneous removal of ammonia, P and COD from anaerobically digested piggery wastewater using an integrated process of chemical precipitation and air stripping.

The paper presented an efficient integrated physicochemical process, which consists of chemical precipitation and air stripping, for the simultaneous removal of NH(3)-N, total P and COD from anaerobically digested piggery wastewater. In the integrated process, Ca(OH) (2) was used as the precipitant for NH(4)(+), PO(4)(3-) and organic phosphorous compounds, and as the pH adjuster for the air stripping of residual ammonia. The possibility of the suggested process and the related mechanisms were first investigated through a series of equilibrium tests. Laboratory scale tests were carried out to v

Precipitation of test chemicals in reaction solutions used in the amino acid derivative reactivity assay and the direct peptide reactivity assay.

The Amino acid Derivative Reactivity Assay (ADRA) was developed by the authors as an in chemico alternative to animal testing for skin sensitization potential. Although ADRA is based on the same scientific principles as the Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay (DPRA), a comparison of the results from these two test methods shows a far lower incidence of precipitation of test chemicals in reaction solutions for ADRA than for DPRA. Specifically, a comparison of the results for 82 test chemicals that were tested using both DPRA and ADRA showed that while there were 30 chemicals tested using DPRA for w

Feasibility study on sulfate-alkali co-activated cementitious materials incorporating phosphogypsum and electrolytic manganese residue: Chemical precipitation and phase coexistence under high alkalinity.

The large-scale disposal of phosphogypsum (PG) and electrolytic manganese residue (EMR) remains constrained by the leaching risk of manganese, phosphorus and associated trace elements. This study aims to investigated the feasibility of chemical precipitation and phase coexistence under high alkalinity in a sulfate-alkali co-activated cementitious material (SACAM) by activating granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) with a two-part NaOH/Na2SiO3 alkaline solution and PEMR, a 2:1 (by mass) mixture of EMR and PG that serves as a composite sulfate activator.
