The diagnosis of lichen-planus-like contact dermatitis to chlorpheniramine maleate.

During complement activation the C3 protein is cleaved, and C3 activation fragments are covalently fixed to tissues. Tissue-bound C3 fragments are a durable biomarker of tissue inflammation, and these fragments have been exploited as addressable binding ligands for targeted therapeutics and diagnostic agents. We have generated cross-reactive murine monoclonal antibodies against human and mouse C3d, the final C3 degradation fragment generated during complement activation. We developed 3 monoclonal antibodies (3d8b, 3d9a, and 3d29) that preferentially bind to the iC3b, C3dg, and C3d fragments in

Simultaneous determination of paracetamol and chlorpheniramine maleate by micellar electrokinetic chromatography.

A micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) method was established for determination of paracetamol (PARA) and chlorpheniramine maleate (CPM) in cold tablets. Separation of both drugs, as well as other seven cold remedy ingredients, was achieved in 25.5 min using a sodium dihydrogenphosphate-sodium tetraborate buffer (10 mM, pH 9.0) containing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) (50 mM) and acetonitrile (26% v/v). The effective capillary length of 50 cm, the separating voltage of 15 kV and the temperature of 30 degrees C was optimized. Detection was by a diode array detector at 214 nm. Method lin

A comparison of acrivastine versus chlorpheniramine in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria.

A total of 20 patients with a diagnosis of chronic idiopathic urticaria were entered into a fully randomized, double-blind, crossover study to investigate the efficacy of 8 mg acrivastine versus 4 mg chlorpheniramine three times daily. Data from 16 patients were available for analysis. Both acrivastine and chlorpheniramine were found to be effective in relieving the signs and symptoms of urticaria. There were no significant differences between the two treatments, although efficacy trends were generally in favour of acrivastine over chlorpheniramine throughout the study.

Effect of topically applied atropine, methysergide and chlorpheniramine on nasal challenge with serotonin.

Serotonin challenge in the nose produces sneezing and rhinorrhoea. To study the mode of action of serotonin in the nose, 14 normal persons, in a double-blind, randomized study, were provoked with serotonin in three concentrations. Fifteen minutes before challenge, they were pretreated in the nose with either a cholinoceptor antagonist (atropine), a serotonin antagonist (methysergide), an H1-histamine antagonist (chlorpheniramine) or isotonic saline. The number of sneezes was noted, and the amount of secretions measured. Serotonin induced dose-related increase in sneezing and hypersecretion (P

The effects of cocaine, chlorpheniramine and tripelennamine on the cardiac responses to sympathetic nerve stimulation.

The effects of cocaine (COC), chlorpheniramine (CHL), and tripelennamine (TRI) on the cardiac responses to sympathetic neural stimulation were compared in open-chest, anesthetized dogs. The amplitudes of the chronotropic responses were not significantly altered by any of these drugs. Similarly, the amplitudes of the inotropic responses were not affected significantly by either COC or TRI, but they were increased moderately by CHL. All three drugs prolonged the inotropic and especially the chronotropic responses. CHL and TRI, in addition to being antihistaminics, are inhibitors of the neuronal

Chlorpheniramine, selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and over-the-counter (OTC) treatment.

Some old antihistamines were selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and the SSRI effect was discovered by Nobel Laureate Professor Arvid Carlsson as early as 1969. Chlorpheniramine was the most active of the tested drugs, and it compares favourably with amitriptyline and imipramine with respect to actions on both serotonergic and noradrenergic neurons. Chlorpheniramine can be called a SSRI, since the blocking of 5HT is stronger than the effect on noradrenaline neurons; however it might also be called a selective serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SSNRI) and be compared wi

Time dependent pharmacokinetic interaction between phenylpropanolamine and chlorpheniramine maleate in human subjects.

The influence of time of administration on the serum levels of phenylpropanolamine when administered alone and in combination with chlorpheniramine maleate at two different times of a day was studied in healthy human volunteers in a randomized 4 x 4 Latin square crossover design with a washout period of ten days. Blood samples were collected at predetermined time intervals and serum samples were analysed for unchanged phenylpropanolamine using high performance liquid chromatography. The various pharmacokinetic parameters of phenylpropanolamine were calculated using model independent methods. T

Sensitization of mice to topically applied drugs: albuterol, chlorpheniramine, clonidine and nadolol.

Allergic contact dermatitis from drugs is a significant obstacle to the development of transdermal drug delivery systems. Protocols for the sensitization of mice to drugs are needed to test methods for the prevention of allergic contact dermatitis. CBA/J female mice were sensitized to the drugs albuterol, chlorpheniramine, clonidine and nadolol by topical application. Sensitization was achieved by application of drug at 5% (w/v) to shaven dorsal skin for 5 days in a hydroxyethylcellulose vehicle. Contact sensitization was determined by measuring the ear swelling response to application of 1% d

Effect of chlorpheniramine on muricide induced by thiamine deficiency: pharmacokinetic and behavioral studies.

Chlorpheniramine (5-10 mg/kg) showed a dose-dependent suppressive effect on muricide induced by thiamine deficiency at 1 hr after oral administration. The ED50 value for muricidal suppression was about 7.1 mg/kg (95% confidence limits, 5.4-9.3 mg/kg). The maximum effect of muricidal suppression lasted for 1-2 hr after oral dosage (10 mg/kg). Chlorpheniramine was detectable at 10 min in the blood and brain of thiamine deficient killer-rats by using a high-performance liquid chromatographic method. Maximum brain and blood levels of chlorpheniramine appeared at 45 and 60 min, respectively. In ter

Intranasal Chlorpheniramine for Early Symptomatic Treatment of COVID-19 and the Impact on Long-COVID.

This review explores the therapeutic potential of intranasal chlorpheniramine maleate (iCPM) in managing both acute COVID-19 and Long COVID by integrating histamine H1 receptor antagonism and bitter taste receptor (T2R) activation. Current literature on histamine-mediated inflammation, T2R activation, and the dual-action mechanisms of iCPM were analyzed. Emphasis was placed on its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and mucosal immunity-enhancing properties. iCPM demonstrates significant efficacy in addressing acute COVID-19 symptoms by inhibiting histamine-mediated inflammatory pathways and reducin

Effect of cetirizine, ketotifen and chlorpheniramine on the dynamics of the cutaneous hypersensitivity reaction: a comparative study.

Allergic cutaneous challenge causes mast cell and basophil mediator release which recruit inflammatory cells to the site of antigen administration. This secondary cell infiltration and mediator release is responsible for the changes seen during the late phase of allergic diseases. In this randomised, double-blind, cross-over, placebo controlled study, it was demonstrated that, at steady-state drug concentrations, chlorpheniramine reduced the wheal-and-flare reaction by about 50% compared to the 75% reduction, on average, by cetirizine and ketotifen. Cetirizine significantly reduced eosinophil

Simultaneous GLC determination of phenylpropanolamine and chlorpheniramine in urine using a nitrogen selective detector.

A simple, rapid, and sensitive simultaneous quantitative determination of phenylpropanolamine and chlorpheniramine in human urine by GLC, using a nitrogen specific detector, is described. After alkaline extraction from urine, phenylpropanolamine and chlorpheniramine are analyzed directly by GLC, without a derivatization step. Promethazine was used as the internal standard. The total assay time is less than 30 min. The method is useful in studies of pharmacokinetic and pharmacological interactions of drug combinations.
