Response of Najdi sheep to oral administration of Citrullus colocynthis fruits, Nerium oleander leaves or their mixture.

Susceptibility of sheep to oral administration of Citrullus colocynthis fruits, Nerium oleander leaves or their mixture is described in 12 sheep assigned as untreated controls, C. colocynthis-treated at 0.25g/kg/day, N. oleander-treated at 0.25g/kg and plant mixture-treated at 0.25g of C. colocynthis/kg plus 0.25g of N. oleander/kg. The daily use of 0.25g of C. colocynthis/kg for 42 days was not fatal to sheep and caused slight diarrhoea, catarrhal enteritis, centrilobular hepatocellular fatty change and degeneration of the renal tubular cells. Single oral doses of 0.25g of N. oleander/kg were

Pharmacological Activities and In-Silico Studies of Bioactive Compounds Identified in Organic Fractions of the Methanolic Extract of Citrullus Colocynthis.

Medicinal plants have been extensively exploited for their immense pharmacological and immune-supporting potential. Fruit of Citrullus colocynthis has several active secondary metabolites such as phenolics, flavonoids, and essential oils that are used in traditional medicines as antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial agents. In this study, phytoconstituents in organic fractions (n-hexane, chloroform, and ethyl acetate) of the methanolic extract of C. colocynthis were analyzed and identified by FT-IR, HPLC, and GC-MS analysis. Ethyl acetate fraction showed the highest a

Methanolic extract of Citrullus colocynthis suppresses growth and proliferation of breast cancer cells through regulation of cell cycle.

Breast cancer is a major cause of cancer related deaths in women worldwide. Available treatments pose serious limitations such as systemic toxicity, metastasis, tumor recurrence, off-target effects, and drug resistance. In recent years, phytochemicals such as secondary metabolites due to their effective anticancer potential at very low concentration have gained attention. Aim of the study was to evaluate anticancer potential of Citrullus colocynthis and its possible molecular targets on MCF-7, a human breast cancer cell line. Methanolic extract of leaves was prepared and fractionated by solven

Antiplatelets and profibrinolytic activity of Citrullus colocynthis in control and high-fat diet-induced obese rats: mechanisms of action.

The current study aimed to investigate the effect of Citrullus colocynthis (C. colocynthis) hydro-alcoholic extract on blood haemostasis in control and high-fat diet (HFD) induced obese rats. In control rats, the extract significantly enhanced bleeding time and plasma levels of tPA and significantly decreased plasma levels PAI-1 and serum levels of thromboxane B2 leading to inhibition of platelets aggregation. In HFD induced obese rats, similar effects were seen and the extract was also able to reverse HFD induced increases in fibrinogen and VWF. Searching for the mechanism, C. colocynthis act

Gas chromatography - Mass spectrometry (GC-MS) profiling reveals newly described bioactive compounds in Citrullus colocynthis (L.) seeds oil extracts.

Citrullus colocynthis (L.) (C. colocynthis), commonly known as Handal in Yemen and other Arabic countries, is a plant with a wide range of pharmacological properties. These properties are attributed to secondary metabolites, known as phytochemicals, present in the plant. In this study, the seed of C. colocynthis were extracted using dichloromethane, and the resulting oil extract was screened to identify active phytoconstituents using gas chromatography - Mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The gas chromatography - Mass spectrometry is used to identification of the phytoconstituents and the spectrum of

Eco-Friendly Synthesis of Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles Using Citrullus colocynthis and their Synergistic Antimicrobial Activity against Drug-Resistant Pathogens.

The escalating threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) necessitates the development of innovative therapeutic approaches. This study reports the green synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs) using Citrullus colocynthis extract, a medicinal plant rich in bioactive compounds, as a sustainable alternative to conventional antibiotics. The synthesized MgO-NPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy (absorption peak at 250 nm), XRD (cubic crystalline structure, 15-25 nm size), SEM-EDX (agglomerated spherical morphology, Mg/O ratio 2.6:1), and FTIR (Mg-O vibration at 860 cm- 1). Chemical, Microbial Quality, and Risk Assessment due to Toxic Metal Contamination of Egusi (Citrullus colocynthis L.) Powder Sold in Selected Ghanaian Markets.

The present study was undertaken to investigate the physicochemical and microbiological qualities of melon seed powder sold in some open Ghanaian markets. Twenty-five samples of powder were collected randomly from each of four major markets and analyzed for moisture, pH, total ash, acid insoluble ash, and free fatty acids (FFA) using standard methods. The microbial population was determined using the pour plate method. Melon seed powder samples had a neutral pH (6.9-7.3) and contained significant amounts of ash (0.1-0.6%). Acid insoluble ash of powder from one market was high (0.6%) and possib
