Phytocomplex of a Standardized Extract from Red Orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) against Photoaging.

Excessive exposure to solar radiation is associated with several deleterious effects on human skin. These effects vary from the occasional simple sunburn to conditions resulting from chronic exposure such as skin aging and cancers. Secondary metabolites from the plant kingdom, including phenolic compounds, show relevant photoprotective activities. In this study, we evaluated the potential photoprotective activity of a phytocomplex derived from three varieties of red orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck). We used an in vitro model of skin photoaging on two human cell lines, evaluating the protec

Magnesium Deficiency Induced Global Transcriptome Change in Citrus sinensis Leaves Revealed by RNA-Seq.

Magnesium (Mg) deficiency is one of the major constraining factors that limit the yield and quality of agricultural products. Uniform seedlings of the Citrus sinensis were irrigated with Mg deficient (0 mM MgSO4) and Mg sufficient (1 mM MgSO4) nutrient solutions for 16 weeks. CO2 assimilation, starch, soluble carbohydrates, TBARS content and H2O2 production were measured. Transcriptomic analysis of C. sinensis leaves was performed by Illumina sequencing. Our results showed that Mg deficiency decreased CO2 assimilation, but increased starch, sucrose, TBARS content and H2O2 production in C. sine

Antioxidant Capacity and Inhibition of Lipid Accumulation Effect of Baccharis articulata and Citrus sinensis Infusions.

Antioxidants are considered as a potential therapeutic to reduce the risk of chronic diseases related to oxidative stress, one of them is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), characterized by an increase in intracellular lipid content. We conducted a central composite rotatable design, using Citrus sinensis (CS) leaves, to optimize aqueous infusion conditions to obtain maximum antioxidant capacity (30 mg leaves/mL, incubated at 70 °C for 14 min). We also developed this approach to Baccharis articulate (BA) aerial parts, a native Argentine shrub with traditional med

Proteomic analysis of Citrus sinensis roots and leaves in response to long-term magnesium-deficiency.

BACKGROUND: Magnesium (Mg)-deficiency is frequently observed in Citrus plantations and is responsible for the loss of productivity and poor fruit quality. Knowledge on the effects of Mg-deficiency on upstream targets is scarce. Seedlings of 'Xuegan' [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] were irrigated with Mg-deficient (0 mM MgSO4) or Mg-sufficient (1 mM MgSO4) nutrient solution for 16 weeks. Thereafter, we first investigated the proteomic responses of C. sinensis roots and leaves to Mg-deficiency using two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) in order to (a) enrich our understanding of the molecular me

Integrative analysis of sulfate transporters in Citrus sinensis reveals CsSULTR3;5 involved in pathogen stress response.

Selenium treatment has been shown to enhance plant resilience against both biotic and abiotic stresses; however, whether it can improve citrus resistance to bacterial diseases remains unexplored. In this study, we systematically identified sulfate transporter (Sultr) genes in the Citrus sinensis genome that are involved in selenate uptake. Analysis of gene structure, conserved motifs, and protein domains revealed a high degree of conservation among CsSultrs. Collinearity analysis between C. sinensis and Arabidopsis thaliana Sultr genes suggested possible evolutionary duplication and divergence

Influence of Consumption of Orange Juice (Citrus Sinensis) on Cardiac Remodeling of Rats Submitted to Myocardial Infarction.

BACKGROUND: Orange juice (OJ) is rich in polyphenols with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. After myocardial infarction (MI), complex changes occur in cardiac structure and function, which is known as cardiac remodeling (CR). Oxidative stress and inflammation can modulate this process. We hypothesized that the consumption of OJ attenuates the CR after MI. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the influence of OJ on CR after MI by analysis of functional, morphological, oxidative stress, inflammation, and energy metabolism variables. METHODS: A total of 242 male rats weighing 200-250 g were subm

MicroRNA-mediated responses to long-term magnesium-deficiency in Citrus sinensis roots revealed by Illumina sequencing.

BACKGROUND: Magnesium (Mg)-deficiency occurs most frequently in strongly acidic, sandy soils. Citrus are grown mainly on acidic and strong acidic soils. Mg-deficiency causes poor fruit quality and low fruit yield in some Citrus orchards. For the first time, we investigated Mg-deficiency-responsive miRNAs in 'Xuegan' (Citrus sinensis) roots using Illumina sequencing in order to obtain some miRNAs presumably responsible for Citrus Mg-deficiency tolerance. RESULTS: We obtained 101 (69) miRNAs with increased (decreased) expression from Mg-starved roots. Our results suggested that the adaptation o

CsSSU I differentially modulates plastidial prenyltransferases linked to coloration and aroma in sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L.).

Coloration (carotenoids) and aroma (volatile terpenoids) are major determinants of citrus fruit quality, but their coordinated improvement is challenging because carotenoid and volatile-terpenoid biosynthesis draw on a shared isoprenoid precursor network. Here, we used chimeric fruits of the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L.) bud mutant "Zongcheng" to investigate this metabolic coordination. Metabolomic analyses revealed coordinated accumulation of carotenoids and volatile terpenoids in the brown peel sectors. We systematically characterized the sweet orange trans-prenyltransferase (TPT) family

Active site determination of novel plant versatile peroxidase extracted from Citrus sinensis and bioconversion of β-naphthol.

UNLABELLED: A ligninolytic peroxidase called versatile peroxidase, VP, (EC 1.11.1.16) is an iron-containing metalloenzyme. The most distinctive feature of this enzyme is its composite molecular framework, which combines lignin peroxidase's capacity to oxidize compounds with high-redox potential with manganese peroxidase's capacity to oxidize Mn2+ to Mn3+. In this study, we have extracted amino acid sequences from the Citrus sinensis source and subjected them to various computation tools to visualize the insight secondary and 3D structure, physicochemical properties, and validation of the struc
