OBJECTIVE: To test the efficacy and tolerability of clenbuterol in patients with spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA).

Description Clenbuterol is a long-acting β-agonist used in oral and inhaled form for asthma treatment outside the U.S. and in veterinary medicine within the U.S. It is also used off-label for anabolic effects worldwide. In this work, a library-immobilization method was used to select DNA aptamers for ractopamine (RAC) and clenbuterol (CLB), two common "lean meat agents". Two RAC-binding aptamers, RAC-1 and RAC-5, exhibit dissociation constants (Kd) of 6.8 and 2.9 μM, respectively, based on isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).
