Randomized clinical trial of topical tranexamic acid after reduction mammoplasty.

BACKGROUND: The antifibrinolytic drug tranexamic acid is currently being rediscovered for both trauma and major surgery. Intravenous administration reduces the need for blood transfusion and blood loss by about one-third, but routine administration in surgery is not yet advocated owing to concerns regarding thromboembolic events. The aim of this study was to investigate whether topical application of tranexamic acid to a wound surface reduces postoperative bleeding. METHODS: This was a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial on 30 consecutive women undergoing bilateral reduction mamm

Topical lidocaine for pessary removal and reinsertion pain reduction: a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Vaginal pessaries are an inexpensive nonsurgical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. Pessary maintenance includes periodic removal, cleaning, and reinsertion, which can be painful. Lidocaine-prilocaine cream has been shown to significantly reduce pain during pessary maintenance exams. In some practices, lidocaine hydrochloride (HCl) 2% jelly may be more readily available and serve as an alternative to lidocaine-prilocaine cream. However, the effect of lidocaine HCl 2% jelly use during pessary maintenance exams has not been tested. OBJECTIVE: To est

Systematic review of topical, laser, and oral treatments in acanthosis nigricans clinical trials.

Acanthosis nigricans (AN), with an estimated prevalence of 19.4% in the U.S., presents as hyperpigmented, velvety plaques in intertriginous regions. Acanthosis Nigricans negatively affects psychological well-being and particularly impacts skin of color individuals. Addressing the underlying cause of acanthosis nigricans, as current guidelines recommend, is often challenging. This highlights the importance of skin directed treatment for acanthosis nigricans. This systematic review evaluated topical, laser, and oral treatments for acanthosis nigricans and provides evidence-based recommendations

Topic-specific living databases of clinical trials: A scoping review of public databases.

INTRODUCTION: Conducting systematic reviews of clinical trials is time-consuming and resource-intensive. One potential solution is to design databases that are continuously and automatically populated with clinical trial data from harmonised and structured datasets. This scoping review aimed to identify and map publicly available, continuously updated, topic-specific databases of clinical trials. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, the preprint servers medRxiv, arXiv, Open Science Framework, and Google. We characterised each database using seven predefined features (access mod
