The objective is to describe patterns of noncommunicable disease (NCD) service delivery and the operational roles of the different Emergency Medical Team (EMT) types-Type1 mobile (outpatient mobile primary care), Type1 fixed (outpatient static primary care), and Type2 (inpatient and surgical care)-in NCD care during the emergency response in Gaza throughout 2024-2025. This study analyzed routinely collected aggregate data from the World Health Organization EMT Minimum Data Set reported by EMTs across Gaza between January 2024 and December 2025. A total of 317,624 NCD consultations were include

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) have become the leading contributors to morbidity and mortality worldwide, responsible for 74% of all deaths. The major risk factors that substantially contribute to and significantly increase the risk of dying from NCDs include tobacco and alcohol use, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity. Proactive prevention strategies are vital in reducing the burden. Presenting at the emergency department (ED) can be an excellent "teachable moment" to intervene for unhealthy behaviors because people seeking medical treatment from doctors at EDs may be more motivated to a

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Sri Lanka achieved a major milestone in communicable disease control in 2012 by reporting zero incidence of autochthonous malaria. However, reduction of malaria was associated with concurrent increase of several tropical diseases. This review looks into the time trends and epidemiology of these communicable diseases in Sri Lanka.
RECENT FINDINGS: Reduction of malaria cases coincides with an increase of dengue, leptospirosis and rickettsioses in Sri Lanka. Although the case fatality rate of dengue has reduced and maintained below 1%, leptospirosis in clinical management is q

The Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit (APSU) has been conducting prospective national surveillance of rare communicable diseases, and complications of communicable diseases, of childhood and infancy for more than three decades. In 2023, there were 15 communicable diseases and complications of communicable diseases under APSU surveillance, which included: acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV), dengue, severe acute hepatitis (SAH), neonatal and infant herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection, perinatal exposure to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and paediatric HIV

Malaria and hypertension are seemingly unrelated communicable and non-communicable diseases, both highly pervasive in the global south. There is a debate about the potential connection between these two disorders beyond any obvious factors. The emerging evidence suggests an emerging genetic selection pressure for hypertension in malaria-endemic regions. Furthermore, the impact of the liver hormone hepcidin, which has been overlooked, is significant in the development of hypertension due to malaria. Malaria exposure leads to changes in iron metabolism through the regulation of hepcidin, resulti

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has highlighted that individuals with behavioural risk factors commonly associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as smoking, harmful alcohol use, obesity, and physical inactivity, are more likely to experience severe symptoms from COVID-19. These risk factors have been shown to increase the risk of NCDs, but less is known about their broader influence on communicable diseases. Taking a wide focus on a range of common communicable diseases, this review aimed to synthesise research examining the impact of behavioural risk factors comm

The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on the challenges we face as a global society in preventing and containing emerging and re-emerging pathogens. Multiple intersecting factors, including environmental changes, host immunological factors, and pathogen dynamics, are intimately connected to the emergence and re-emergence of communicable diseases. There is a large and expanding list of communicable diseases that can cause neurological damage, either through direct or indirect routes. Novel pathogens of neurotropic potential have been identified through advanced diagnostic techniques, including m

A recent symposium and workshop in Khartoum, the capital of the Republic of Sudan, brought together broad expertise from three universities to address the current burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases facing the Sudanese healthcare system. These meetings identified common challenges that impact the burden of diseases in the country, most notably gaps in data and infrastructure which are essential to inform and deliver effective interventions. Non-communicable diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, renal disease and cancer are increasing dramatically, contributing to multi

Before twentieth centuries and during early twentieth centuries, communicable diseases were the major cause of morbidity and mortality in Korea. But reliable data are not available. After 1975, the overall morbidity and mortality from communicable diseases, rapidly declined. Recently many new pathogenic microbes were recognized: L. monocytogenes, Hantaan virus, Y. pseudotuberculosis, P. multocida, L. pneumophilia, Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), G. seoi, H. capsulatum, C. burnetii, V. cholerae 0139, C. parvum, F. tularensis, E. coli 0157:H7, B. burgdorferi, S. Algeria, like all emerging countries, has been going through a health transition over the past 30 years or so, characterized by a drop in mortality rates, an increase in life expectancy and a change in the causes of death in favor of chronic non-communicable diseases. In the past, the country mainly faced infectious diseases such as typhoid, cholera and malaria. The prevalence of the latter has been significantly reduced thanks to the many social health and vaccination programs undertaken by the health authorities. As a result of this epidemiological transition, we are witnessing a growing inc

Whereas common infectious and parasitic diseases such as malaria and the HIV/AIDS pandemic remain major unresolved health problems in many developing countries, emerging non-communicable diseases relating to diet and lifestyle have been increasing over the last two decades, thus creating a double burden of disease and impacting negatively on already over-stretched health services in these countries. Prevalence rates for type 2 diabetes mellitus and CVD in sub-Saharan Africa have seen a 10-fold increase in the last 20 years. In the Arab Gulf current prevalence rates are between 25 and 35% for t

In early 1997, the PHLS Overview of Communicable Diseases (OVCD) Committee carried out a consultation exercise to inform the development of PHLS priorities in communicable diseases for the years 1997 to 1999. The views of PHLS senior staff and scientific committees and consultants in communicable disease control in district health authorities were sought by postal questionnaire, and several organisations of health professionals were asked for their views on the initial findings. The main findings of the exercise are summarised in three areas of priority. Priority 1 diseases-those of major impo

Ectoparasitic diseases share many features in common with emerging infectious diseases, such as Lyme disease, including hyperendemic causative agents afforded selective advantages by changing ecological or socioeconomic conditions; origination as zoonoses or as highly communicable human-to-human diseases; transmission by competent vectors; and introduction into new, susceptible host populations. Many of these ectoparasites are now developing increasing resistances to medical therapies, including the safest insecticides and repellants.

BACKGROUND: Ethiopia is encountering a growing burden of non-communicable diseases along with infectious diseases, perinatal and nutritional problems that have long been considered major problems of public health importance. This retrospective analysis was carried out to examine the mortality patterns from communicable diseases and non communicable diseases in public and private hospitals of Addis Ababa.
METHODS: Approximately 47,153 deaths were captured over eight years (2002-2010) in forty three public and private hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Data collectors (43 hospital clerks) and

Chronic and non-communicable disease is the leading cause of death and disease burden globally. Traditional prevention and control strategies mainly focuses on dietary composition and total energy intake, with less emphasis on the temporal patterns of eating behavior. Chrono-nutrition, as an emerging interdisciplinary field, focuses on the interaction between meal timing, frequency, regularity, and the body's endogenous circadian rhythms, and its impact on health. This paper systematically summarizes the influence and potential mechanisms of chrono-nutrition in four major chronic and non-commu

For geographical and historical reasons, Spain is receiving an increasing number of immigrants. The aim of this study was to evaluate some epidemiological aspects and the main public health issues of communicable diseases in Barcelona's immigrant population. From 2001 to 2004, a population of immigrants from tropical, subtropical regions and Eastern Europe was attended to in our centre. Each patient was offered a complete screening for tropical and common diseases. The prevalence and demographical characteristics of eight diseases with a potential risk of transmission in our setting were studi

The emergence of new fungal pathogens and the resurgence of mycotic diseases that had previously been uncommon is a serious and growing public health problem. This review examines the factors involved in the emergence or re-emergence of several mycotic diseases, including coccidioidomycosis and cryptococcosis, over the past two decades. New approaches to prevention and control are also discussed.

Emergence of many emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases have occurred over the past decade, some of which are major public threat. SARS, MERS-CoV, highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1), Ebola virus disease have raised concerns because of their virulence, their mortality, and/or their modality of transmission, or their impact on maternofoetal transmission (Zika virus). The witness of these emergences have conducted health authorities to have policies and plans and to imagine new organizations for health systems in order to identify any case of highly communicable virulent disease for
