Accelerating hybrid XOR-CNF Boolean satisfiability problems natively with in-memory computing.

The Boolean satisfiability (SAT) problem is a computationally challenging decision problem central to many industrial applications. For SAT problems in cryptanalysis, circuit design, and telecommunication, solutions can often be found more efficiently by representing them with a combination of exclusive OR (XOR) and conjunctive normal form (CNF) clauses. We propose a hardware accelerator architecture that natively embeds and solves such hybrid XOR-CNF problems using in-memory computing hardware. To achieve this, we introduce an algorithm and demonstrate, both experimentally and through simulat

Computational hybrid approach of PBPK simulation and CGCNN models for human intravenous pharmacokinetics.

In drug discovery, it is not sufficient for a lead compound to exhibit high binding affinity for the target protein alone. It is equally important to predict an optimal pharmacokinetic (PK) profile that reflects the physicochemical properties of the compound. In this study, we aimed to predict human PK by jointly employing physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) simulation and chemical graph convolutional neural networks (CGCNN) models. Using a hybrid approach that combines PBPK simulation with CGCNN models, we successfully constructed a model capable of predicting human area under the co

A high-speed hybrid brain-computer interface with more than 200 targets.

Objective. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have recently made significant strides in expanding their instruction set, which has attracted wide attention from researchers. The number of targets and commands is a key indicator of how well BCIs can decode the brain's intentions. No studies have reported a BCI system with over 200 targets.Approach. This study developed the first high-speed BCI system with up to 216 targets that were encoded by a combination of electroencephalography features, including P300, motion visual evoked potential (mVEP), and steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP).

Computational fluid dynamics investigation of the novel hybrid comprehensive stage II operation.

BACKGROUND: The hybrid comprehensive stage 2 (HCS2) procedure is a novel palliative operation applicable to a select subset of single ventricle patients with adequate native antegrade aortic flow to the upper body. Flow to the descending aorta, through the pulmonary outlet and ductal arch, is influenced by a stented intrapulmonary baffle connecting the branch pulmonary arteries. We used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to elucidate the hemodynamic characteristics of this reconstruction. METHODS: We used multiscale CFD analysis of a synthetic, patient-derived HCS2 anatomic configuration with

Hybrid physics-neural network computational spectrometer based on a random diffractive structure.

Miniaturized spectrometers often trade spectral resolution and bandwidth against footprint and reconstruction fidelity. We report a structure-algorithm co-designed computational spectrometer that combines a random micropinhole diffractive encoder with hybrid physics-neural reconstruction. The encoder generates wavelength-sensitive diffraction patterns with low inter-wavelength correlation. The reconstruction first obtains a nonnegativity-constrained, smoothness-regularized Tikhonov estimate and then fuses it with radial speckle features using a neural network. Experiments over the 500-700 nm b

Hybrid brain-computer interface using error-related potential and reinforcement learning.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) offer alternative communication methods for individuals with motor disabilities, aiming to improve their quality of life through external device control. However, non-invasive BCIs using electroencephalography (EEG) often suffer from performance limitations due to non-stationarities arising from changes in mental state or device characteristics. Addressing these challenges motivates the development of adaptive systems capable of real-time adjustment. This study investigates a novel approach for creating an adaptive, error-related potential (ErrP)-based BCI usin

Computer tomography guided thoracoscopic resection of small pulmonary nodules in the hybrid theatre.

PURPOSE: Thoracic surgeons are currently asked to resect smaller and deeper lesions which are difficult to detect thoracoscopically. The growing number of those lesions arises both from lung cancer screening programs and from follow-up of extrathoracic malignancies. This study analyzed the routine use of a CT-aided thoracoscopic approach to small pulmonary nodules in the hybrid theatre and the resulting changes in the treatment pathway. METHODS: 50 patients were retrospectively included. The clinical indication for histological diagnosis was suspected metastasis in 46 patients. Technically, t

A hybrid computational approach for efficient Alzheimer's disease classification based on heterogeneous data.

There is currently a lack of an efficient, objective and systemic approach towards the classification of Alzheimer's disease (AD), due to its complex etiology and pathogenesis. As AD is inherently dynamic, it is also not clear how the relationships among AD indicators vary over time. To address these issues, we propose a hybrid computational approach for AD classification and evaluate it on the heterogeneous longitudinal AIBL dataset. Specifically, using clinical dementia rating as an index of AD severity, the most important indicators (mini-mental state examination, logical memory recall, gre

Feature Extraction and Classification Methods for Hybrid fNIRS-EEG Brain-Computer Interfaces.

In this study, a brain-computer interface (BCI) framework for hybrid functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and electroencephalography (EEG) for locked-in syndrome (LIS) patients is investigated. Brain tasks, channel selection methods, and feature extraction and classification algorithms available in the literature are reviewed. First, we categorize various types of patients with cognitive and motor impairments to assess the suitability of BCI for each of them. The prefrontal cortex is identified as a suitable brain region for imaging. Second, the brain activity that contributes to the

Multi dose computed tomography image fusion based on hybrid sparse methodology.

With the increasing utilization of X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) in medical diagnosis, obtaining higher quality image with lower exposure to radiation has become a highly challenging task in image processing. In this paper, a novel sparse fusion algorithm is proposed to address the problem of lower Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) in low dose CT images. Initial fused image is obtained by combining low dose and medium dose images in sparse domain, utilizing the Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DTCWT) dictionary which is trained by high dose image. And then, the strongly focused image is obtaine

Detecting awareness in patients with disorders of consciousness using a hybrid brain-computer interface.

OBJECTIVE: The bedside detection of potential awareness in patients with disorders of consciousness (DOC) currently relies only on behavioral observations and tests; however, the misdiagnosis rates in this patient group are historically relatively high. In this study, we proposed a visual hybrid brain-computer interface (BCI) combining P300 and steady-state evoked potential (SSVEP) responses to detect awareness in severely brain injured patients. APPROACH: Four healthy subjects, seven DOC patients who were in a vegetative state (VS, n = 4) or minimally conscious state (MCS, n = 3), and one lo

Usefulness of Hybrid Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography/ Computed Tomography in a Case of Ectopic Thyroid Tissue in the Thyroglossal Duct Remnant.

Here, we report a case of a 54-year-old woman affected by thyrotoxicosis, with scintigraphic evidence of a diffuse hyperfunctioning goiter and a large ectopic thyroid tissue in the thyroglossal duct remnant. The latter was apparently more active than the two lobes at 99mTc-pertechnetate scintigraphy, mimicking a condition of preexisting increased sensitivity to thyroid-stimulating hormone stimulation. On the other hand, single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography has proven to be a very useful tool in demonstrating this activity to be similar to the thyroid lobes and in defi

Towards linking histological changes to liver viscoelasticity: a hybrid analytical-computational micromechanics approach.

Motivated by elastography that utilizes tissue mechanical properties as biomarkers for liver disease, with the eventual objective of quantitatively linking histopathology and bulk mechanical properties, we develop a micromechanical modeling approach to capture the effects of fat and collagen deposition in the liver. Specifically, we utilize computational homogenization to convert the microstructural changes in hepatic lobule to the effective viscoelastic modulus of the liver tissue, i.e. predict the bulk material properties by analyzing the deformation of repeating unit cell. Computational Design of Potentially Multifunctional Antimicrobial Peptide Candidates via a Hybrid Generative Model.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) provide a robust alternative to conventional antibiotics, combating escalating microbial resistance through their diverse functions and broad pathogen-targeting abilities. While current deep learning technologies enhance AMP generation, they face challenges in developing multifunctional AMPs due to intricate amino acid interdependencies and limited consideration of diverse functional activities. To overcome this challenge, we introduce a novel de novo multifunctional AMP design framework that enhances a Feedback Generative Adversarial Network (FBGAN) by integratin

Hybridization of Acoustic and Visual Features of Polish Sibilants Produced by Children for Computer Speech Diagnosis.

Speech disorders are significant barriers to the balanced development of a child. Many children in Poland are affected by lisps (sigmatism)-the incorrect articulation of sibilants. Since speech therapy diagnostics is complex and multifaceted, developing computer-assisted methods is crucial. This paper presents the results of assessing the usefulness of hybrid feature vectors extracted based on multimodal (video and audio) data for the place of articulation assessment in sibilants /s/ and /ʂ/. We used acoustic features and, new in this field, visual parameters describing selected articulators'

Computational and stability analysis of Ebola virus epidemic model with piecewise hybrid fractional operator.

In this manuscript, we developed a nonlinear fractional order Ebola virus with a novel piecewise hybrid technique to observe the dynamical transmission having eight compartments. The existence and uniqueness of a solution of piecewise derivative is treated for a system with Arzel'a-Ascoli and Schauder conditions. We investigate the effects of classical and modified fractional calculus operators, specifically the classical Caputo piecewise operator, on the behavior of the model. A model shows that a completely continuous operator is uniformly continuous, and bounded according to the equilibrium

A probabilistic approach for calibration time reduction in hybrid EEG-fTCD brain-computer interfaces.

BACKGROUND: Generally, brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) require calibration before usage to ensure efficient performance. Therefore, each BCI user has to attend a certain number of calibration sessions to be able to use the system. However, such calibration requirements may be difficult to fulfill especially for patients with disabilities. In this paper, we introduce a probabilistic transfer learning approach to reduce the calibration requirements of our EEG-fTCD hybrid BCI designed using motor imagery (MI) and flickering mental rotation (MR)/word generation (WG) paradigms. Rapid discovery of inhibitors of Toxoplasma gondii using hybrid structure-based computational approach.

Toxoplasma (T.) gondii, the causative agent of toxoplasmosis, is a ubiquitous opportunistic pathogen that infects individuals worldwide, and is a leading cause of severe congenital neurologic and ocular disease in humans. No vaccine to protect humans is available, and hypersensitivity and toxicity limit the use of the few available medicines. Therefore, safer and more effective medicines to treat toxoplasmosis are urgently needed. Using the Hybrid Structure Based (HSB) method, we have previously identified small molecule inhibitors of P. falciparum that seem to target a novel protein-protein i
