Pathogenic Genes for Congenital Microtia: A Bioinformatics Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to accurately find the pathogenic genes of congenital microtia, so as to lay a theoretical foundation for genetic screening, diagnosis, and gene therapy of congenital microtia in the further stage. METHODS: In this study, the authors used public data from the Mouse Genome Informatics database. The authors used the String database ( https://string-db.org/ ) to construct the Protein-Protein Interaction network. Then Gene Ontology classification and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis were performed for the pathogenic genes. RESULTS:

Reconstruction of congenital microtia by using a tissue expander.

In the conventional reconstruction of microtia, skin grafting is an absolute necessity because of the scantiness of the skin tissue at the affected site. As the result, color- and texture- matching as well as sensory preservation remain to be improved. To solve these problems, we developed a surgical procedure for reconstruction of microtia by using a tissue expander, which allowed us to reconstruct the erect auricle without the need for skin grafting. In this paper, we introduce and discuss our method using the tissue expander with a review of the literature. We operated on a total of 38 pati

Chorda tympani nerve dysfunction associated with congenital microtia.

CONCLUSION: This is the first report to investigate the correlation between ear anomalies related to the development of specific ear structures and chorda tympani dysfunction (CTD) in congenital microtia. CTD is not always consistent with the severity of the ear anomaly or the presence of facial nerve paralysis (FNP). OBJECTIVES: To investigate the relationship between the severity of ear anomalies and CTD as well as FNP in congenital microtia. METHODS: A retrospective assessment was performed for all patients with microtia over the period 2010-2016. All ears were graded based on the severit

Rehabilitation of Unilateral Congenital Microtia by Implant-retained Prosthesis.

Microtia is a major congenital anomaly of the external ear. It includes a spectrum of deformities from a grossly normal but small ear to the absence of the entire external ear. These deformities account for three in every 10,000 births, with bilaterally missing ears seen in fewer than 10% of all cases. Extraoral implant-retained ear prosthesis has been proven to be a predictable treatment option for rehabilitation of such congenital anomalies. This paper aims to present principles of maxillofacial implants, review of literature, advantages, disadvantages, and considerations in treatment planni

Epidemiological Research of Microtia Combined With Congenital Heart Disease.

SUMMARY: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is one of the most common combined malformations of microtia. There is currently no specific study that investigates the relationship between microtia and CHD. METHODS: This study collected microtia inpatients admitted from May 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016. The diagnosis of CHD was based on patient's symptoms, past history, and echocardiography. Pearson χ2 test was used to analyze the correlation between CHD and microtia. RESULTS: A total of 30 cases (3.35%) were documented with CHD, including atrial septal defect (12/40.00%), ventricular septal defect (7/

Multi-omics analysis of a case of congenital microtia reveals aldob and oxidative stress associated with microtia etiology.

BACKGROUND: Microtia is reported to be one of the most common congenital craniofacial malformations. Due to the complex etiology and the ethical barrier of embryonic study, the precise mechanisms of microtia remain unclear. Here we report a rare case of microtia with costal chondrodysplasia based on bioinformatics analysis and further verifications on other sporadic microtia patients. RESULTS: One hundred fourteen deleterious insert and deletion (InDel) and 646 deleterious SNPs were screened out by WES, candidate genes were ranked in descending order according to their relative impact with mi

Intractable retroauricular abscess associated with microtia and aural atresia--some views in relation to the congenital cholesteatoma and microtia.

Five microtic and aural atretic ears associated with intractable retroauricular abscess unresponsive to conservative treatment are reported. The pathogenesis of this abscess is primary cholesteatoma called "cholesteatoma auris congenita of atretic ear," and these lesions can be clearly explained by the embryological development of the external auditory meatus. Microtic ears with such lesions invariably have part of the cartilaginous canal patent but have an atrophic bony canal. Therefore, grade 3 microtia has never been affected theoretically. We also discuss the relationship between the retro

[Retroauricular teratoma with congenital microtia and ankylotia: a case report].

Teratoma is a germ cell tumor, which is rare behind the ear. We described a rare case of retroauricular teratoma accompanied with congenital malformation of external and middle ear and cholesteatoma of middle ear in a 13-years-old girl. Congenital microtia and ankylotia of right ear was found since childhood, suppuration occurred repeatedly behind the right ear 1 year ago. Temporal bone CT and MRI scan revealed congenital malformation of middle ear and cholesteatoma of middle ear. Cystic mass containing a tooth was found intraoperatively. The pathological results showed that it was benign cyst
