An evaluation of the accuracy of pharmacokinetic data for the computer assisted infusion of alfentanil.

The accuracy of using average alfentanil pharmacokinetic data in a computer assisted infusion pump (TIAC) to predict alfentanil plasma concentrations was tested in 35 patients (divided into three groups) receiving alfentanil and nitrous oxide in oxygen anaesthesia for lower and upper abdominal surgery. By frequently measuring the arterial plasma concentration, it was possible to determine the average prediction error for individual patients and for groups of patients. For the groups, there were no significant systematic over- or underpredictions of the alfentanil plasma concentrations (bias).

Validating the Data Completeness and Accuracy of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Registry.

Introduction: The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Registry (CCFR) was developed in the 1970s and has longitudinal demographic and clinical data on persons living with cystic fibrosis (CF) attending accredited clinics in Canada. We aimed to validate the data collection and identify potential limitations of the CCFR. Methods: Of 40 accredited CF clinics in Canada invited and based on an a priori sample size calculation, eight clinics were included. 15% of each CF clinic's population in 2019 were randomly selected. Data variables were selected based on their importance to care, epidemiologic trends, and

Estimability before accuracy: missing-data strategies for classroom-scale student assessment.

Guidance on handling missing item responses in educational assessments is drawn almost entirely from large-scale testing programs; however, much of the practical work occurs in single classes and small multi-class samples. This Monte Carlo study aimed to identify which strategies can be estimated at all at that scale, and how accurate they are once estimation succeeds. A complete-data benchmark and four missing-data strategies were evaluated across sample sizes from 40 to 200. The primary design examined four missingness mechanisms at a 15% missingness rate, and an additional 25% sensitivity c

Accuracy of Real-Time Data Provided by Mechanical Insufflation-Exsufflation Devices.

Background: Mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) is crucial to assist patients with impaired cough, especially those with neuromuscular diseases. Despite recent advancements that enable real-time display of peak expiratory flow (PEF) and inspiratory volume, accurately monitoring these parameters with MI-E devices during treatment can still present challenges. Methods: A bench study that used a mechanical lung connected to 3 MI-E devices (EOVE-70; E-70 and Comfort Cough II) was conducted to evaluate PEF and inspiratory volume monitoring accuracy. Two clinical conditions were tested, low

SMRI Biomarkers Predict Electroconvulsive Treatment Outcomes: Accuracy with Independent Data Sets.

Owing to the rapid and robust clinical effects, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) represents an optimal model to develop and test treatment predictors for major depressive disorders (MDDs), whereas imaging markers can be informative in identifying MDD patients who will respond to a specific antidepressant treatment or not. Here we aim to predict post-ECT depressive rating changes and remission status using pre-ECT gray matter (GM) in 38 MDD patients and validate in two independent data sets. Six GM regions including the right hippocampus/parahippocampus, right orbitofrontal gyrus, right inferior

Data-driven refinements for voice disorder classification: improving accuracy and generalisability.

INTRODUCTION: As machine-learning models for vocal pathology advance, their performance is increasingly constrained not by modelling techniques but by the taxonomic structures used to define the classification task itself. Conventional clinical frameworks, while grounded in diagnostic practice, often reflect conceptual groupings that do not map cleanly onto the acoustic patterns learned by modern Voice AI systems-contributing to the persistent performance gap between multi-class and binary detection tasks. Motivated by this mismatch, we introduce an alternative strategy: deriving a taxonomy fr

Frameless stereotaxic integration of CT imaging data: accuracy and initial applications.

To evaluate the spatial accuracy of a rapid interactive method of transferring computed tomographic (CT) information between its display on a computer screen to its source (test object, operating field), a multidimensional computer combined with a six-jointed position-sensing mechanical arm was tested with a Plexiglas model consisting of 50 rods of varied height and known location, a plastic replica of the skull, and, subsequently, three patients. The median error value between image and real location was 1-2 mm (P > .95), regardless of the registration target sites. The accuracy, however, inc

Data accuracy in the European Cystic Fibrosis Society Patient Registry: results of an on-site data validation project.

BACKGROUND: Patient registries are valuable tools for epidemiological research, especially for rare diseases, and a high level of data quality is essential but not always demonstrated. Although crucial, the quality management process in patient registries rarely includes data validation. The European Cystic Fibrosis Society Patient Registry (ECFSPR) collects clinical data about people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) in Europe (as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) European region). This on-site data validation project was conducted by the ECFSPR to assess feasibility of the project, da

Effect of the CBCT data segmentation threshold on registration accuracy with surface scanning.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Accurate spatial relationships between cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and intraoral surface scan (IOS) data is crucial to avoid encoding errors that can affect surgical and prosthetic planning, including surgical guide fabrication. Specifically, segmentation thresholds used during CBCT data processing may influence the geometry of 3D bone models and, consequently, the accuracy of their registration with the IOS data. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess whether different CBCT segmentation thresholds affected the registration accuracy with IOSs. MATERIA

Accuracy of diagnosis and health service codes in identifying frailty in Medicare data.

BACKGROUND: Capturing frailty within administrative claims data may help to identify high-risk patients and inform population health management strategies. Although it is common to ascertain frailty status utilizing claims-based surrogates (e.g. diagnosis and health service codes) selected according to clinical knowledge, the accuracy of this approach has not yet been examined. We evaluated the accuracy of claims-based surrogates against two clinical definitions of frailty. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in a Health and Retirement Study subsample of 3097 participants, aged

Completeness and accuracy of crash outcome data in a cohort of cyclists: a validation study.

BACKGROUND: Bicycling, despite its health and other benefits, raises safety concerns for many people. However, reliable information on bicycle crash injury is scarce as current statistics rely on a single official database of limited quality. This paper evaluated the completeness and accuracy of crash data collected from multiple sources in a prospective cohort study involving cyclists. METHODS: The study recruited 2438 adult cyclists from New Zealand's largest mass cycling event in November 2006 and another 190 in 2008, and obtained data regarding bicycle crashes that were attended by medica

Using NAPIIA to improve the accuracy of Asian race codes in registry data.

BACKGROUND: Misclassification of race/ethnicity, particularly for Asians and American Indians, has been an issue existing in cancer registry data for years. Over the past 10 years, the Asian population has increased noticeably in both the US and in Louisiana. Therefore, accurate recording of Asian races/ethnicities in cancer registry databases has become essential for disparity research. The objectives of this study were to demonstrate that using the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) Asian/Pacific Islander Identification Algorithm (NAPIIA) could improve the codin

Evolutionary regimes determine the accuracy of epistasis inference from temporal genetic data.

Epistasis, the non-additive effects of mutations, shapes fitness landscapes and evolutionary trajectories. Temporal genetic data reveal evolutionary dynamics and could be used to infer epistatic interactions, especially through linkage disequilibrium (LD) between interacting mutations. However, other evolutionary forces can also generate LD, challenging inference. Here, we systematically evaluated the accuracy of a variety of epistasis inference approaches across a range of selective pressures, recombination rates, and population sizes. In general, we found that inference accuracy depends on t
