Three new α-glucosidase inhibitory benzo-isochromenes were isolated from the chloroform fraction of Datura stramonium. This study investigated the phytochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity in leaves, roots, stem, flower, and seed parts of Datura alba (D. alba). The study also assessed the heavy metal (Cr, Mn, Zn, and Cu) accumulation in each part of the plant. OBJECTIVE: The soxhlet and cold extracts of Datura metel Linn. were evaluated for in vitro antirabies activity.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Soxhlet and cold extraction method were used to extract Datura (fruit and seed) extracts. In vitro cytotoxicity assay was performed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazolyl-2)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. The current study was designed to evaluate the antifungal properties of Datura metel L. against Rizoctonia solani Kuhn. To achieve this objective, six concentrations of leaves & stem methanol extract of D. metel viz. 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, 3% & 3.5% were tested against R. solani in vitro. The aim of the study was to show the growing problem of poisoning with easily accessible shrub Datura stramonium among children and young people. 21 children with the symptoms of poisoning with this plant were treated in The Silesian Centre for Children's Diseases in Zabrze in the years 1999-2001. An outbreak of intractable impaction colic affecting 18 of 83 horses was stopped by withdrawing dried tef hay contaminated with young Datura plants.
