ObjectivesTo evaluate the association between systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and 30-day mortality in critically ill cirrhosis patients with acute kidney injury (AKI).MethodsThis retrospective cohort study utilized the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV database. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression, with covariates selected by Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator regression, was employed to assess the association. Model performance was evaluated with the Brier score, and the additive predictive value of SIRS to the model for end-stage liver di

ObjectiveThe lactate-to-albumin ratio has been associated with adverse outcomes in various diseases. However, the impact of the lactate-to-albumin ratio on the prognosis of critically ill patients with chronic kidney disease remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the predictive ability of the lactate-to-albumin ratio for 28-day all-cause mortality in critically ill patients with chronic kidney disease.MethodsThis retrospective cohort study included 4271 critically ill patients with chronic kidney disease from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database. The

BACKGROUND: This review aimed to investigate the effectiveness and quality of support and provision within day service centres for people with intellectual disabilities.
METHOD: The International Bibliography of the Social Sciences, Scopus and PsycInfo databases were searched in August 2024, and the results were reported according to the PRISMA guidelines. Peer-reviewed, English-language, qualitative studies that investigated the effectiveness of day service provision for people with intellectual disabilities in non-residential settings were considered for review. Methodological quality of th

BACKGROUND: Adult day services (ADS) are therapeutic, social, and health-related activities that keep people in their homes, rather than institutional settings. While there is a growing body of literature on ADS for older adults, there is far less information available about ADS for younger adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDDs).
METHOD: Researchers conducted a scoping review of 6 databases (892 total articles).
RESULTS: After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 74 full articles were reviewed, with 10 articles meeting study requirements. The research team fo

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) combined with hypertension is an extremely important cause of in-hospital mortality, especially for the intensive care unit (ICU) patients. However, under intense working pressure, the medical staff are easily overwhelmed by the large number of clinical signals generated in the ICU, which may lead to treatment delay, sub-optimal care, or even wrong clinical decisions. Individual risk stratification is an essential strategy for managing ICU patients with HF combined with hypertension. Artificial intelligence, especially machine learning (ML), can develop superior

OBJECTIVES: A national survey was conducted in the Italian Day Care Centers hosting people with dementia (DCCs). This national survey aimed to describe the characteristics, the organizational structure and the opening period during the COVID-19 pandemic of the DCCs.
METHODS: A list of all national DCCs was provided by representatives from each Italian region. The online questionnaire consisted of two main parts: a profile section (location, access) and a data collection form (organization, services, treatments, activities, and any discontinuation of the services due to the COVID-19 outbreak).

BACKGROUND: A target group for digital services are people who are involved in informal care arrangements. Family caregivers often undertake the organization and coordination of care, which is associated with a high need for information.
OBJECTIVE: The study examined the extent to which family caregivers perceive the use of a mobile digital application as facilitating day to day care, in particular regarding information needs.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A market-ready mobile smartphone app was used by 16 informal caregivers over several months. Qualitative interviews were conducted to investigate

The demographic development and the advance of intensified yet time and personnel-intensive therapeutic options constitute increasing challenges for the care of people with advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). Often, the multitude of motor and non-motor symptoms cannot be adequately addressed in an ambulatory setting The concept of a Parkinson's day clinic has been put forward to meet the requirements for these patients who not necessarily require the full medical support of an inpatient treatment and was included into the Parkinson's guidelines of the German Neurological Society as a novel and

Program 10-15 is a crisis day hospital for adolescents. Its operations are inspired by institutional psychiatry and the systemic approach. This article describes the use of institutional, educational, and relational boundaries in their role as a source of containment and for therapeutic purposes. Through the presentation of a clinical case study, it illustrates the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork in using boundaries as a therapeutic tool. Opportunities for reflection and sharing within the team are described as necessary to prevent the blurring of professional identities and burnout.

BACKGROUND: A variety of treatments have been empirically validated in the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Researchers commonly evaluate symptom change during treatment using single model curves, however, modeling multiple curves simultaneously allows for the identification of subgroups of patients that progress through treatment on distinct paths.
METHODS: Latent growth mixture modeling was used to identify and characterize distinct classes of symptom trajectories among two samples of patients with either MDD or GAD receiving treatment in a daily part

BACKGROUND: The number of people with severe mental illness who receive treatment whilst living at home has increased greatly over the last 30 years. Day centres and day hospitals frequently supplement this treatment.
OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of non-medical day centre care for people with severe mental illness.
SEARCH STRATEGY: We updated our search in September 2005. All databases and searches are detailed in the body of the text.
SELECTION CRITERIA: We would have included all randomised controlled trials where seriously mentally ill people were allocated to non-medical day cen

BACKGROUND: Day hospices represent a new component of outpatient palliative care in Germany. They focus on improving the quality of life and symptom control for patients with advanced, incurable diseases and aim to relieve the burden on family caregivers. However, a uniform theoretical framework for day hospices has not yet been established.
METHODS: To develop a logic model for day hospices, data were obtained from a retrospective literature review and qualitative, semi-structured telephone interviews with 11 patients and 5 relatives. The logic model was developed by the author team using a

New psychiatric out-patients with depressive, phobic, and anxiety neurosis were randomly allocated to out-patient care or to one of two types of day hospital treatment, one specialising in psychotherapy and the other offering all forms of day care. Of 106 patients who entered the study, 78 had assessments of psychiatric symptomatology and social adjustment both before treatment and after 4, 8 and 24 months. There was no significant difference in outcome between depressive, phobic, and anxiety neurosis, and no overall difference in response to treatment between the three types of care. Suicidal

OBJECTIVE: Outpatient treatment for bulimia nervosa (BN) often fails to reduce core symptoms like binge eating and purging, while inpatient care is costly and separates patients from their everyday environment. Day-patient treatment offers a middle ground by providing intensive daytime therapy with the opportunity to apply skills at home. This meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of day-patient treatment for BN and explored potential outcome moderators.
METHODS: A systematic search yielded 1664 records, and 20 studies were included in the analysis. Outcome variables were changes in quest
