Delftia acidovorans bacteremia caused by bacterial translocation after organophosphorus poisoning in an immunocompetent adult patient.

A 46-year-old woman was transferred to our emergency unit because of impaired consciousness and respiratory failure with the history of excessive pesticide intake. The patient was hypersalivative and had bilateral pupillary miosis. Laboratory results showed markedly decreased cholinesterase. She was intubated and treated in the intensive care unit with the diagnosis of organophosphorus poisoning. The patient had persisted diarrhea, with a high fever and stomach tenderness on day 10. Whole-body contrast enhanced computed tomography revealed a swollen, enhanced small intestinal wall, and blood c

Acute infective endocarditis caused by Delftia acidovorans, a rare pathogen complicating intravenous drug use.

Gram-negative bacilli causing infective endocarditis (IE) is rare, even in intravenous drug users. This case report underscores several clinically important aspects of Delftia acidovorans IE: the organism's ability to cause rapid destruction of normal native valves and to cause embolic occlusion of large arteries and its resistance to all aminoglycosides.

Delftia acidovorans Infections in Immunocompetent and Immunocompromised Hosts: A Case Report and Systematic Literature Review.

Delftia acidovorans (D. acidovorans) is a non-fermentative, aerobic, Gram-negative bacillus typically found in environmental sources such as soil and water. Although considered an opportunistic pathogen, it has been implicated in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals. This study presents a case of persistent cathether-related bacteraemia in a 61-year-old haemodialysis patient and offers a systematic literature review of similar cases. The patient, affected by end-stage kidney disease and dependent on a central venous catheter (CVC), presented with septic shock. Blood cultures

Microbiological characterization of Delftia acidovorans clinical isolates from patients in an intensive care unit in Brazil.

Delftia acidovorans is an opportunistic agent in several types of infections, both in immunocompromised and immune-competent individuals; its resistance to aminoglycosides and polymyxin, choice drugs for empirical treatment of Gram-negative infections, is remarkable. We report the antimicrobial susceptibility and the genetic relatedness of 24 D. acidovorans strains recovered from tracheal aspirates of 21 adult inpatients hospitalized in an intensive care unit at a Brazilian hospital, from 2012 to 2013. All of the isolates were recovered as pure cultures and in counts above 1,000,000 CFU/mL. No

Cotton Recruits Soil-Derived Delftia tsuruhatensis to Suppress Aphid Detoxification Via Salicylic Acid-Mediated Defense.

The synergistic defense between microorganisms and plants holds significant ecological importance in resisting pest attacks. Herbivorous insects pose a significant threat to global agriculture. While plants deploy defense hormones like jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA), the role of beneficial microbes in enhancing these defenses remains underexplored. This study unveils a novel tripartite interaction in which cotton actively mobilizes the soil-derived bacterium Delftia tsuruhatensis to roots and leaves upon aphid attack, reshaping its microbiome for defense. Following aphid infestatio

LCMS-Metabolomic Profiling and Genome Mining of Delftia lacustris DSM 21246 Revealed Lipophilic Delftibactin Metallophores.

Bacteria have evolved various strategies to combat heavy metal stress, including the secretion of small molecules, known as metallophores. These molecules hold a potential role in the mitigation of toxic metal contamination from the environment (bioremediation). Herein, we employed combined comparative metabolomic and genomic analyses to study the metallophores excreted by Delftia lacustris DSM 21246. LCMS-metabolomic analysis of this bacterium cultured under iron limitation led to a suite of lipophilic metallophores exclusively secreted in response to iron starvation. Additionally, we conduct

Not Your Typical Pneumonia: A Rare Case of Delftia acidovorans Pneumonia With Concurrent Malignant Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Delftia acidovorans (D. acidovorans) is classified as a Gram-negative, aerobic non-fermenting bacillus that is commonly found in outdoor environmental elements, such as soil and water. In normal circumstances, it is considered a non-pathological environmental organism, rarely implicated in clinical settings with a low incidence of patient infection. D. acidovorans infections, including pneumonia and sepsis, are often associated with increased susceptibility to secondary infections from other Gram-negative bacteria, especially in patients with solid or hematologic malignancies. Henceforth, this

Genomic Analysis of Delftia tsuruhatensis Strain TR1180 Isolated From A Patient From China With In4-Like Integron-Associated Antimicrobial Resistance.

Delftia tsuruhatensis has become an emerging pathogen in humans. There is scant information on the genomic characteristics of this microorganism. In this study, we determined the complete genome sequence of a clinical D. tsuruhatensis strain, TR1180, isolated from a sputum specimen of a female patient in China in 2019. Phylogenetic and average nucleotide identity analysis demonstrated that TR1180 is a member of D. tsuruhatensis. TR1180 exhibited resistance to β-lactam, aminoglycoside, tetracycline and sulphonamide antibiotics, but was susceptible to phenicols, fluoroquinolones and macrolides.

Proteomic Analysis Reveals Proteins, Siderophores, and Exopolysaccharides Involved in Cd(II) Stress Response of the Heavy Metal-Tolerant Delftia lacustris B11CM Strain.

Heavy metal (HM) pollution, such as cadmium, significantly impacts ecosystems and poses serious risks to human health. In soil, it reduces fertility and agricultural productivity. On the other hand, bacteria employ several tolerance mechanisms in response to HM exposure, including the production of siderophores, exopolysaccharides, proteins, and peptides. This study aimed to identify the possible molecular mechanisms involved in Cd(II) tolerance in the Delftia lacustris B11CM strain using nano LC/MS-MS proteomic analysis, siderophore and exopolysaccharide assays, protein and thiol quantificati

IncP-1β plasmids of Comamonas sp. and Delftia sp. strains isolated from a wastewater treatment plant mediate resistance to and decolorization of the triphenylmethane dye crystal violet.

The application of toxic triphenylmethane dyes such as crystal violet (CV) in various industrial processes leads to large amounts of dye-contaminated sludges that need to be detoxified. Specific bacteria residing in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are able to degrade triphenylmethane dyes. The objective of this work was to gain insights into the genetic background of bacterial strains capable of CV degradation. Three bacterial strains isolated from a municipal WWTP harboured IncP-1β plasmids mediating resistance to and decolorization of CV. These isolates were assigned to the genera Comamo

An altered uterine microbiota with endometrial hyperplasia.

BACKGROUND: Endometrial hyperplasia (EH) is a precursor to endometrial cancer, and the role of the microbiome in its development is unclear. RESULTS: The present study investigated the uterine microbiome in patients with benign uterine conditions and endometrial hyperplasia. A significant structural shift in the uterine microbiome of patients with endometrial hyperplasia compared to those with benign conditions was found. Delftia, Serratia and Stenotrophomonas were significantly enriched in endometrial hyperplasia samples and associated with the presence of endometrial hyperplasia. CONCLUSIO

Soil-derived, gut-dominant generalist bacteria shape the fitness of folivorous larvae.

Whether Lepidoptera harbor a conserved core gut microbiome has long remained contentious. Through large-scale microbiome profiling of folivorous larvae, their host plants, and associated soils across three climatically distinct regions of China, we identify two soil-derived generalist bacteria, Ralstonia insidiosa and Delftia sp., that colonize 97.92% of larval species examined, attaining mean relative abundances exceeding 47%, with the soil microbial reservoir as their principal source. Strikingly, these two taxa exhibit strong mutual exclusion within the larval gut yet govern host developmen

Analysis of Gut Bacterial and Fungal Microbiota in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Their Non-Autistic Siblings.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a multifactorial disorder involving genetic and environmental factors leading to pathophysiologic symptoms and comorbidities including neurodevelopmental disorders, anxiety, immune dysregulation, and gastrointestinal (GI) abnormalities. Abnormal intestinal permeability has been reported among ASD patients and it is well established that disturbances in eating patterns may cause gut microbiome imbalance (i.e., dysbiosis). Therefore, studies focusing on the potential relationship between gut microbiota and ASD are emerging. We compared the intestinal bacteriome

Delftibactin-A, a Non-ribosomal Peptide With Broad Antimicrobial Activity.

The rapid emergence of drug resistant bacteria is occurring worldwide, outpacing the development of new antibiotics. It is known that some of the main sources of antibiotics are the bacteria themselves, many of which are secondary metabolites of Gram positive bacteria. Siderophores, which are secondary metabolites, function as natural chelators (e.g., iron). They are produced and secreted by many bacteria and have been experimented on as "carriers" of several types of antibiotics that pass the cell membrane of challenging Gram negative bacteria. Delftibactin A is a non-ribosomal peptide (NRP),

Biodegradation of tributyl phosphate by novel bacteria isolated from enrichment cultures.

Tributyl phosphate (TBP) is an organophosphorous compound, used extensively (3000-5000 tonnes/annum) as a solvent for nuclear fuel processing and as a base stock in the formulation of fire-resistant aircraft hydraulic fluids and other applications. Because of its wide applications and relative stability in the natural environment TBP poses the problem of pollution and health hazards. In the present study, fifteen potent bacterial strains capable of using tributyl phosphate (TBP) as sole carbon and phosphorus source were isolated from enrichment cultures. These isolates were identified on the b
