International Delphi consensus on single-port robotic radical prostatectomy: patient selection, surgical technique, and training.

INTRODUCTION: The introduction of the purpose-built single-port (SP) robotic platform has allowed for the advent of regionalized minimally invasive surgical approaches for robotic radical prostatectomy (RARP), including the extraperitoneal and transvesical techniques. This study sought to develop a best practice consensus on the key principles, patient selection, surgical techniques, expected clinical outcomes, and learning curves pertaining to SP-RARP. METHODS: A modified Delphi consensus was developed by a panel of experts, consisting of a 33-item questionnaire, with each statement rated us

Consensus Guidelines of Irreversible Electroporation for Pancreatic Tumors: Protocol Standardization Using the Modified Delphi Technique.

Since no uniform treatment protocol for pancreatic irreversible electroporation (IRE) exists, the heterogeneity throughout literature complicates the comparison of results. To reach agreement among experts, a consensus study was performed. Eleven experts, recruited according to predefined criteria regarding previous IRE publications, participated anonymously in three rounds of questionnaires according to a modified Delphi technique. Consensus was defined as having reached ≥80% agreement. Response rates were 100, 64, and 64% in rounds 1 to 3, respectively; consensus was reached in 93%. Pancreat

Which Behavior Change Techniques May Help Waterpipe Smokers to Quit? An Expert Consensus Using a Modified Delphi Technique.

INTRODUCTION: Waterpipe smoking is addictive and harmful. The determinants of waterpipe smoking may differ from those of cigarette smoking; therefore, behavioral approaches to support quitting may also differ between these two tobacco products. While some evidence exists on effective behavioral change techniques (BCTs) to facilitate cigarette smoking cessation, there is little research on waterpipe smoking cessation. METHODS: Twenty-four experts were selected from the author lists of peer-reviewed, randomized controlled trials on waterpipe smoking cessation. They were invited to two rounds of

Creation of the Prevention of Organ Failure Checklist. A Multidisciplinary Approach Using the Modified Delphi Technique.

RATIONALE: Respiratory failure represents a major risk for morbidity and mortality. Although generally managed in the intensive care unit (ICU), respiratory failure often begins elsewhere. Checklists of care processes to minimize the duration of mechanical ventilation and adverse events are routinely used in the ICU, but are uncommonly used outside the ICU. OBJECTIVES: To develop consensus among a multidisciplinary expert panel on care practices to include in a checklist of best practices for critically ill patients with respiratory failure before and after ICU admission. METHODS: A multidis

Developing Examples of Behaviour Change Techniques for Use in Nutrition and Dietetics: An International Delphi Study.

INTRODUCTION: Behaviour change techniques (BCTs) are key components of interventions designed to improve health behaviours including eating and drinking. The Behaviour Change Technique Taxonomy v1 (BCTTv1) identifies 93 distinct BCTs. To effectively support practitioners and researchers in nutrition and dietetics, practical examples of these are essential. The aims of this study were to develop examples that illustrate the 93 BCTs in the BCTTv1, focusing on clinical nutrition (CN) and public health nutrition (PHN), and use a Delphi technique to achieve a consensus on their applicability and us

The psychiatric management of prisoners on hunger strike: developing a management algorithm using the Delphi technique.

PURPOSE: The assessment and management of prisoners on hunger strikes in a custodial setting is complex. There is limited clinical guidance available for psychiatrists to draw upon in such cases. The purpose of this paper is to develop a management algorithm through expert elicitation to inform the psychiatric care of prisoners on a hunger strike. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: A Delphi method was used to elicit views from Irish forensic psychiatrists, a legal expert and an expert in ethics using a structured questionnaire. Themes were extracted from the results of the questionnaire to propose

Co-creation of an educational mobile health application prototype on oral cancer using modified delphi technique.

Only very few educational mobile health applications (MHAs) on oral cancer exists. Based on existing literature, only one of such MHAs (application name: Prayaas) was created specifically for lay persons; unfortunately, the application has been critiqued to be non-inclusive and non-comprehensive. Hence, this study aimed to co-create a more comprehensive and inclusive educational MHA prototype on oral cancer through a participatory action research approach. A three-round modified Delphi technique was employed to engage stakeholders in a participatory action research process. Digital communicati

Expert Perspectives on Professional Standards Education for Veterinary Nurses: A Four-Round Fully Qualitative Delphi Technique.

Veterinary nurses in the United Kingdom, alongside other stakeholders, have long sought recognition as professionals in their own right. A key element of this professionalism is the existence of a formal register, held by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). UK preregistration programs must include professional standards education to meet RCVS accreditation requirements. However, the extent to which students are effectively prepared to use the RCVS Code of Conduct and uphold professional behaviors remains uncertain. This study explored perceptions of educators and service users reg

Approaches for Managing Benzodiazepine Dependence Arising From Use of the Adulterated Opioid Supply: A Delphi Technique.

OBJECTIVES: Benzodiazepine adulteration of the unregulated opioid supply presents significant clinical challenges, whereby patients can develop physical dependence to benzodiazepines inadvertently. Currently, clinicians lack evidence to guide care of patients potentially experiencing benzodiazepine withdrawal when ceasing use of unregulated opioids. We used a Delphi technique to build consensus around assessment and management of people at risk for benzodiazepine dependence due to the use of unregulated opioids. METHODS: We administered a Delphi Technique with 12 clinicians (physicians, nurse

Standardized Technique for Prostatic Artery Embolization: A Delphi Consensus Study on Optimized Methods and Emerging Concepts.

PURPOSE: Prostatic artery embolization (PAE) is a safe and effective treatment for management of lower urinary tract symptoms in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Despite its clinical effectiveness, PAE remains technically demanding, necessitating standardized procedural steps to optimize outcomes. Although complete standardization is limited by patient-specific anatomical variations and operator-dependent factors, this paper is aimed at establishing a consensus. METHODS: Following Delphi methodology, a panel of 14 international experts conducted a consensus study to establish evidence-b

Chilean consensus by expert panel using the Delphi technique for primary and secondary prevention of gastric cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Gastric cancer (GC) is the first cause of cancer-related death in Chile and 6th in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the main gastric carcinogen, and its treatment reduces GC incidence and mortality. Esophageal-gastro-duodenoscopy (EGD) allows for the detection of premalignant conditions and early-stage GC. Mass screening programs for H. pylori infection and screening for premalignant conditions and early-stage GC are not currently implemented in LAC. The aim of this study is to establish recommendations for primary and secondary prevention

Identification and validation of end-of-life nursing care competencies for Kenyan nurses: A modified Delphi technique.

BACKGROUND: The number of patients requiring end-of-life care in acute care hospitals in Kenya continues to increase due to increases in non-communicable diseases. Despite advances in the field of palliative care (PC), its utilization is deficient in our setting, particularly at the end of life. Many patients and family members have unmet needs during the end-of-life phase. The aim of this study was to identify and validate end-of-life nursing competencies required by non-specialized nurses in Kenya. Validation of competencies for end-of-life care would help to develop relevant professional de
