Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an exceedingly rare neoplasm arising from the antigen-presenting cells of the immune system. We report a case of IDCS occurring in a 69-year-old man who presented to an outside institution with a painless mass in his right parotid gland for several months. He presented to our institution after undergoing a superficial parotidectomy. A diagnosis of undifferentiated neoplasm, favoring poorly differentiated carcinoma, was made at that time. He underwent a total parotidectomy and neck dissection at our institution. Microscopically, the tumor was com

To better define the clinical and pathologic features of interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS), we report 4 cases, including the first reported in the tonsil. There were 2 male and 2 female patients (mean age, 70 years). Sites of tumor included 1 case each in the right cervical lymph node, left axillary lymph node, right tonsil, and right inguinal lymph node. Histologically, all showed diffuse effacement of the lymphoid tissue by pleomorphic round to spindled cells with convoluted nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. All were immunoreactive for S-100, CD68, lysozyme, and vimenti

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an extremely rare neoplasia of interdigitating dendritic cells. Two single case reports documenting IDCS harboring t(14;18) translocation involving immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) and BCL2 have been reported recently; however, one of the 2 IDCS has a synchronous follicular lymphoma, the absence or presence of a follicular lymphoma in the remaining case is not mentioned. In this study, by using polymerase chain reaction and fluorescence in situ hybridization techniques, we have showed that there is neither t(14;18)/IGH-BCL2 nor IGH gene rearrang

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma is a very rare entity in the spectrum of histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms that mostly occurs in lymph nodes, generally presenting as solitary lymphadenopathy, but may affect every organ. Among extra nodal sites, cutaneous interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma is exceedingly rare; to date, only 9 cases have been described in English literature. The mean age at diagnosis was 60 years, with a male-female ratio of 1,5 to 1; clinically, two different modalities of skin presentation have been reported: solitary, represented by a single red-brownish nod

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is a rare, highly malignant tumor with a poor prognosis, and current knowledge of this tumor is limited. It is reported that lymph nodes are the primary localization sites. However, in recent years, many primary IDCS have also been reported in the extra-nodal sites, which undoubtedly increases the difficulty of diagnosis. There are very few reports that systematically analyze the clinicopathologic features of IDCS. Here we described two cases of extra-nodal IDCS and reviewed the literature of 44 other published cases of extra-nodal IDCS. Thus, the

We report a case of interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) originating from the adrenal gland. A 57-year-old middle-aged woman with no previous history of malignancy came to our hospital after color Doppler ultrasound revealed a right adrenal mass. An abdominal computed tomography scan also showed an adrenal mass. Postoperative pathology confirmed the diagnosis of IDCS. After complete surgical removal of the adrenal tumor, the patient has been disease-free for 1 year. IDCS may have a good prognosis after surgical resection. To our knowledge, this is only the second reported case of IDCS

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an exceedingly rare neoplasm originating from professional antigen presenting cells normally located in the T zone of the lymph node. The purpose of this report was to describe the first case of the IDCS of the submandibular gland and perform a review of the literature of head and neck IDCS. We present a case of an 81-year-old man with a 5 months history of slowly enlarging painless mass in right submandibular region. Fine needle aspiration cytology was suggestive of squamous cell carcinoma. The patient underwent surgical resection of the right

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an extremely rare neoplasm arising from the antigen-presenting cells of the immune system. It usually involves the lymph nodes, and extranodal sites are rarely affected. Here, we report a first known case of spontaneous hemoperitoneum caused by the rupture of IDCS of the small bowel. A 61-year-old male presented with complaints of abdominal pain and fever for 3 days and breathlessness for 1 day. Ultrasound abdomen revealed a 15 cm × 7 cm heterogeneous collection with thick septations in the periumbilical region. Diagnostic peritoneal lavage reve

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is a rare tumor derived from dendritic cells and has been reported in slightly more than 100 cases in literature. IDCS of the skin is an exceedingly rare presentation, noted in 8 case reports in published literature. We present a rare case of a 44-year-old man who presented with primary cutaneous IDCS on his posterior neck, who was later discovered to have biopsy-confirmed IDCS lung metastases. Secondary to this, the patient was found to have a superficial spreading melanoma on his left shoulder, consistent with the notion that cutaneous IDCS incre

RATIONALE: Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an extremely rare disease. It commonly occurs in middle-aged males and mainly involves the lymph nodes. Pathological examination plays an important role in differentiating from other tumors, but far less published literature focuses on the imaging characteristics of IDCS.
PATIENT CONCERNS: Here, we reported a case of IDCS in a 52-year-old male involving the pelvis with medical imaging and pathologic findings.
DIAGNOSES: Preoperative unenhanced CT scan revealed a 6.0 × 6.3 × 8.0 cm mass with density equal to that of adjacent muscle,

A 60-year-old male was admitted for obstructive jaundice secondary to a 2 cm retroperitoneal lesion. Ultrasound endoscopy (UES) with fine needle biopsy (FNB) was performed, as well as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with placement of a metal stent for bile duct drainage. Initially IgG4-related disease was suspected from FNB. After 8 months of treatment the patient attended with a progression evidenced in computed tomography (CT) with retroperitoneal adenopathies and liver metastasis, with involvement of duodenum and fistulation towards hepatic angle of colon. Upper endosc

Malignant histiocytic neoplasms (MHNs) are rare tumors derived from the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS), encompassing histiocytic sarcoma, Langerhans cell sarcoma, interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma, and other high-grade MPS lineage tumors. Despite advances in understanding histiocytic neoplasms, MHNs remain diagnostically challenging and lack standardized treatment algorithms. Current classification systems differ in lineage framing and fail to address mixed or ambiguous phenotypes, contributing to diagnostic uncertainty and inconsistent care. To address these gaps, the Histiocyte Soci

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an extremely rare neoplasm of spindle to ovoid cells with phenotypic features similar to those of interdigitating dendritic cells. No standard therapy for advanced IDCS has yet been established. According to past reports, CHOP-like regimens are often chosen as primary therapy. Herein, we report a case with advanced IDCS, for which ABVD achieved remarkable clinical improvement and serial CEA levels correlated with disease status. A 76-year-old man presented with general fatigue and pancytopenia with CEA elevation. Colonoscopy showed erosion and p

A hybrid histiocytic sarcoma-interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma was found in a small perinephric lymph node of an asymptomatic 80-year-old man, who presented a year ago with two small foci of lung metastasis found during routine chest X-ray. Fine needle aspiration cytology demonstrated interconnecting long and thin cell processes radiating from dendrite-like neoplastic cells with oval, enlongated, reniform, and irregular nuclei with vesicular chromatin and distinct nucleoli. Histology showed spindled epitheliod and histiocytic cells with abundant, slightly eosinophilic cytoplasm with indis

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm classified within the M-group of malignant histiocytoses. Its diagnosis poses a significant challenge. This article aims to describe a rare clinical case of IDCS and to illustrate the differential diagnostic process undertaken by the authors in establishing this diagnosis. A 60-year-old woman was admitted for the resection of a retroperitoneal mass discovered via CT scan. Morphological examination revealed a 7.5×5.5×5.0 cm tumor, encapsulated by a thin fibrous capsule. The tumor was composed of 90-95% inflammatory

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma is extremely rare neoplasm that mainly occurs in the lymph nodes. Only 45 cases have been reported in the literature to date. We report a case of this sarcoma arising from the liver and lung, a previosly unreported site for this neoplasm. An 19-year-old girl deteriorated rapidly after artificial abortion and died 4 weeks later. Autopsy showed markedly enlarged liver and lung with numerous nodules up to 0.5 centimeters in diameter. Microscopically, nodules was composed of large pleomorphic cells that were immunohistochemically positive for proteins S-100 a

Interdigitating Dendritic Cell Sarcoma (IDCS) is an infrequent dendritic cell tumor which mainly affects the lymphatic system. Intestinal metastasis from uterine IDCS is extremely rare. Here we report a case of a 76-year-old female presenting with vaginal bleeding and acute abdomen. The final diagnosis revealed a small bowel perforation due to metastatic involvement from uterine cervix IDCS. In this paper, we report the clinical manifestation, computed tomography and histopathological findings helpful for the accurate diagnosis of this rare tumor.

Neoplasms derived from interdigitating dendritic cell are extremely rare. Here we describe a case of a 47-year-old man with interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) in the ileum. He was admitted to a hospital due to ileus. The ileal tumor, measuring 2cm, was detected and resected with regional lymphadenectomy. At that time, a pathologic diagnosis of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor was made. The patient, who was not treated with chemotherapy, showed no signs of recurrence. After three years, we detected cervical lymphadenopathy and multiple duodenal masses in the patient in our hos
