INTRODUCTION: Dental caries remains a major public health issue worldwide, particularly among children. Pit and fissure sealants represent a high-quality, evidence-based preventive measure. However, ensuring the reliability of their application by newly graduated intern dental students trained through tele-education remains an emerging area of growing interest. Thus, the current study aimed to assess the clinical success of pit and fissure sealants placed by intern dental students following tele-demonstration training compared to traditional training approaches.

BACKGROUND: Most of the detected increment in dental caries among children and adolescents is confined to occlusal surfaces of posterior permanent molars. Dental sealants and fluoride varnishes are much used preventive options for caries. Although the effectiveness of sealants and fluoride varnishes for controlling caries as compared with no intervention has been demonstrated in clinical trials and summarised in systematic reviews, the relative effectiveness of these two interventions remains unclear. This review is an update of one first published in 2006 and last updated in 2010.

OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the cost effectiveness of a three-year school-based pit and fissure dental sealant and fluoride mouthrinsing program in two nonfluoridated regions in Victoria, Australia.
METHODS: The analysis was based on a community intervention in five schools comparing an intervention group receiving the pit and fissure dental sealant, a weekly fluoride mouthrinsing, and an annual oral hygiene education session, with a control group receiving oral hygiene education only. BACKGROUND: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2012 data indicated that, in the United States, nearly one-fourth of children and over one-half of adolescents experienced dental caries in their permanent teeth. The purpose of this review was to summarize the available clinical evidence regarding the effect of dental sealants for the prevention and management of pit-and-fissure occlusal carious lesions in primary and permanent molars, compared with a control without sealants, with fluoride varnishes, or with other head-to head comparisons.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the relationship between caries prevalence and fissure sealants among 12-year-old German children at three educational levels.
METHODS: In 1998 a cross-sectional investigation which comprised 60% of the 12-year-old children was performed in Heidelberg, Germany. The children attended three types of schools: Gymnasium, Hauptschule, and Realschule. The children received a dental examination.
