Research progress in heterogeneity of dental mesenchymal stem cells.

Dental tissues development involves two distinct cell lineages: mesenchymal cells (derived from the cranial neural crest) and epithelial cells (derived from oral ectoderm and pharyngeal epithelium). Emerging evidence highlights the remarkable functional heterogeneity of cranial neural crest-derived dental mesenchymal stem cells (DMSCs), exhibiting pluripotency, self-renewal, and differentiation capacities. This heterogeneity enables a single DMSC population to generate specialized subpopulations with unique roles in teeth and periodontal tissues formation. Significant progress has been made in

[Research status and development trends of dental pulpitis biomarkers].

Pulpitis is an inflammatory response of dental pulp tissue triggered by external stimuli such as bacterial infection, mechanical trauma, and iatrogenic injury. Accurate diagnosis of pulpitis is essential for the success of minimally invasive endodontic treatments. However, the current diagnostic framework lacks objective indicators capable of precisely assessing the severity of pulp inflammation. Recent studies have revealed that biomarkers such as matrix metalloproteinases, cytokines, chemokines, non-coding RNAs, growth factors, and signaling molecules are closely associated with the degree o

Digital radiological research in forensic dental investigation: case studies.

The advent of dental digital radiology and new portable X-ray devices allows the execution of periapical X-ray images not only in the dental surgery but also in hitherto difficult locations such as field military hospitals, archaeological excavation sites, morgues and in cases of house arrest. In this work authors evaluated the feasibility of Nomad Examiner (Aribex inc.) handheld X-ray device combined with a digital sensor and a portable pc in forensic odontology applications. Employed for the first time forensically during the 2004 Tsunami victim identification process, the Nomad Examiner has

Zymography as a Tool for Exploring Protease Activity in Dental Research.

The presence and activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and cysteine cathepsins (CCs) in dentin significantly affect the progress of carious and erosive lesions into dentin, as well as the durability and integrity of dental restorations. Understanding the mechanisms involved on this proteolytic activity could therefore provide valuable insights into the pathogenesis of these conditions and inform the development of novel therapeutic strategies. This manuscript provides a comprehensive overview of zymographic techniques applied in dental research, with a focus on the sample's preparation

Dental staff and patient attitudes about nicotine replacement therapy samples in dental care: A National Dental Practice-Based Research Network study.

OBJECTIVES: Cigarette smoking negatively affects oral health. Nicotine replacement therapies (NRT; e.g. nicotine patch or lozenge) and brief interventions (e.g. Ask-Advise-Refer; AAR) can improve cessation outcomes but are underutilized. NRT sampling (NRTS) increases NRT utilization by providing patients with samples of NRT as part of routine healthcare. Ask-Advise-Refer is a brief intervention where practitioners: ask patients about tobacco use, advise those using tobacco to quit and refer to the state quit line. The objective of this qualitative study was to explore dental care practitioners

[Research progress in standardized dental treatments of patients receiving bisphosphonate].

Bisphosphonate (BP), a group of anti-resorptive drugs, has been widely used for the treatments of osteoporosis and metastatic bone diseases. Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), a serious well-recognized complication of patients receiving BP, adversely affects patients' oral health and quality of life. Its clinical signs include pain, bone exposure and necrosis of the jaws. Invasive oral treatments, which may affect the repair of jaws in patients using BP, could cause the occurrence of MRONJ. Therefore, it is important to avoid the risk factors of MRONJ and to standardize the o
