Dermatofibrosarcoma with lymph node involvement.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a slow-growing, locally aggressive, fibrous tumor that, on rare occasions, metastasizes to distant sites or regional lymph nodes. We have found 28 patients with metastasis in the literature; 9 of these patients had lymph node metastasis. In this report we present a case of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the lower extremity with metastasis to inguinal lymph nodes appearing 10 months after wide excision and skin grafting of the primary lesion. The clinical and pathological features of this case are presented. Although, along with our patient, 10 cases of re

Dermatofibrosarcoma of the breast: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, low-grade fibroblastic mesenchymal tumor that develops in the dermal and hypodermal layers of the skin. DFSP arises typically on trunk and proximal limbs followed by the extremities. Intra-breast DFSP is even more uncommon, with only a handful of cases described in the literature. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 40-year-old woman who underwent her first breast screening. It revealed a 18mm mass in the lower outer quadrant of the right breast categorized as Breast-Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BIRAD) IV. A core-

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the head and neck.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the head and neck is an unusual, slowly growing malignant tumor of the dermis which is locally infiltrative and recurs persistently. Fifteen cases of dermatofibrosarcoma of the head and neck were studied in detail as to age and sex of patient, location of the tumor, clinical course, and ultimate outcome. Four tumors were of the forehead, four were of the scalp, three were of the chin, two were of the anterior neck, one was of the lateral face, and one was of the postauricular region. Initial diagnosis was sometimes inaccurate, and initial treatment was often

Fibrosarcomatous Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans of the Head.

This article highlights the case of a 37-year-old male who presented with a recurrent, exponentially enlarging head mass, emphasizing the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges associated with a very rare type of tumor, fibrosarcomatous dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) of the head. Our patient presented with a rapidly growing head mass, initially diagnosed as a spindle cell tumor, and was managed with surgical excision and skin flap grafting. Follow-up revealed relapse and interval development of hemiparesis and hemisensory loss. MRI revealed tumor recurrence, with compression of the righ

Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans in a Male Infant.

Dermtofibrosarcoma protuberans is a rare cutaneous malignancy known to be locally aggressive. It is uncommonly seen in the pediatric population and can be difficult to distinguish from other benign skin lesions. We present a case of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the penis in a 6-month-old child managed with surgical resection. This case highlights the challenges of diagnosis of genital lesions in children and the complexities of genitourinary reconstruction following surgical resection.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the mons pubis.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare fibrous tumor with intermediate malignant potential and in rare cases the vulva is involved. The most common clinical presentation is a firm plaque with surrounding red to blue discoloration, or less often with multiple small subcutaneous nodules. The authors present a case of a 66-year-old woman who came to the hospital complaining of longstanding painless nodules in the area of the mons pubis. On physical examination, a diffuse area of erythematous induration involving the mons pubis was recognized and within this area there were smaller nodul

Dermatofibrosarcoma: a rare neoplasm of skin.

A 25-year-old lady presented with a small pea-sized lesion on left side of her neck, anteriorly. There was no history of any other lesion on her body. She was medically fit otherwise. An excision was planned, after taking consent from her, which was performed under local anaesthesia as a day procedure. Her postoperative recovery was uneventful. Histopathology showed dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance which is an extremely rare skin tumour. She was further investigated for metastasis. Her CT scan of chest, abdomen and pelvis was performed which showed prominent thymus. Other than this finding, no

Radiotherapy in the treatment of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the role of postoperative radiotherapy (RT) for patients with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). METHODS AND MATERIALS: Ten patients were treated with surgery and postoperative RT and had follow-up from 21 to 185 months. Nine patients had DFSP and 1 patient had a fibrosarcomatous component (DFSP-FS). No patient had gross disease at the time of RT. RESULTS: Nine patients with DFSP remained disease free after surgery and postoperative RT. The patient with DFSP-FS experienced a local recurrence after surgery, external beam RT, and a brachytherapy boost, and died with

Metastatic dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans of the vulva.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) of the vulva is a rare, low- to intermediate-grade sarcoma of dermal origin. This case report represents the 13th reported patient with vulvar DFSP and the first reported patient with metastatic vulvar DFSP. Although metastasis is rare, the possibility remains that the frequent recurrence of DFSP will eventually metastasize. Therefore, patients must be followed up on a long-term basis to monitor the progress of this potentially lethal cancer.

Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans Treatment in South Dakota.

INTRODUCTION: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, locally aggressive dermal soft tissue sarcoma. Local recurrences, reported at rates between 2-19%, risk sarcomatous transformation and increasing risk for metastasis. Swift diagnosis and appropriate management mitigate the risk of advanced local disease, extensive surgical resection, and subsequent risk of metastasis. Clinically, DFSP resembles multiple, common subcutaneous growths. Misdiagnosis leads to incorrect or delayed treatment. This study investigates whether access to dermatology affects outcomes of DFSP treatment in Sout

Vulvar dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans: a case series.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, superficial low - to intermediate-grade sarcoma that typically presents as an asymptomatic slow-growing indurated dermal plaque. Although DFSP has a relatively high local recurrence rate, distant metastasis is rare. DFSP primarily occurs on the trunk and extremities but is seldom reported in the vulva. Due to its rarity, the clinical characteristics, pathological diagnosis, prognosis, and optimal management of vulvar DFSP remain poorly characterized. We retrospectively analyzed vulvar DFSP cases from our institution (January 2010 - January 2023

PRAME expression in fibrosarcomatous dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.

PRAME (PReferentially expressed Antigen in MElanoma) was first identified as a malignant melanoma-specific antigen. Recently, a few cases of fibrosarcomatous dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (FS-DFSP) were shown to have positivity for PRAME, while conventional dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (C-DFSP) was negative. Because PRAME may be of diagnostic utility in FS-DFSP and is raising expectations as a new immunotherapy target, we examined the positivity of PRAME in FS-DFSP. Twenty-one cases of FS-DFSP and age/sex/location-matched cases of C-DFSP as a control group were examined by immunohistochem

Follicular induction overlying a dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.

The term "induction" has been used to describe epidermal changes overlying a dermatofibroma (DF). Follicular induction is most often associated with DF, but can be observed in other lesions, including focal mucinosis, nevus sebaceous, seborrheic keratosis, wart, neurofibroma, and scars. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a malignant fibrohistiocytic tumor that may be difficult to distinguish from DF. In contrast to DF, the epidermis overlying DFSP is usually attenuated or ulcerated. Here, we report a case of DFSP exhibiting follicular induction of the overlying epidermis. This epidermal

Massive Facial Presentation of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a low-grade cutaneous sarcoma typically located on the trunk or proximal extremities. Less common locations include the head, face, and neck area. This tumour is slow growing with variable clinical appearance. It is known for its locally invasive nature and low metastatic propensity. Because imaging findings are rather nonspecific, biopsy is needed for definite diagnosis. This case describes an unusually large example of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans in the less common preauricular region.

Atrophic Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans with Eosinophilic Infiltration.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, locally aggressive spindle cell mesenchymal tumor arising in the dermis, with low metastatic potential. The most commonly affected sites are the trunk and proximal extremities; rarely are acral sites involved. Atrophic DFSP is a rare form of DFSP, that is morphologically different but histologically similar to DFSP. It commonly affects young adults between the ages of 20 to 50 years. The current management strategy for atrophic DFSP is surgical excision with long-term follow-up to detect any recurrence. Only one known case of atrophic DFSP with

Recurrent Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberance: A Case Report.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance represents less than 0.1% of all tumors, treatment of which requires wide local excision (≥5cm) but recurrence is not rare. Here we present a 32-year male presented with a swelling of 15 x 6cm over the left lumbar region for which he underwent excision three years ago, the histopathological examination of the swelling, showed a malignant mesenchymal tumor and Immunohistochemistry features were suggestive of Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberance. After three years of interval, he again presented with complaints of swelling in the previously operated site for nine mon

A Rare Breast Tumor: Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a slow-growing, local aggressive fibrous tumor of the subcutaneous tissue, frequently seen in the proximal extremities and the trunk. Its occurrence in the breast is very rare. Herein, we present a female who presented with a breast mass, and aim to discuss pathological features and differential diagnosis of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. A 44-year-old female presented to our clinic with a mass on her breast. Physical examination revealed a 8×5.5 cm mass with multilobular nodules on the skin in the lower inner quadrant of her right breast. Her mammography r

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans with primary orbital manifestation.

A 45-year-old, otherwise healthy woman presented with mild epiphora and a palpable mass in the lacrimal sac area. After transcutaneus orbitotomy and complete excision histopathology revealed a primary Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans invading the orbit. During the 24-months follow-up, no recurrence occurred. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of a primary DFSP with the orbit involved.
