Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a cardiac dysfunction which affects approximately 12% of diabetic patients, leading to overt heart failure and death. However, there is not an efficient and specific methodology for DCM diagnosis, possibly because molecular mechanisms are not fully elucidated, and it remains asymptomatic for many years. Also, DCM frequently coexists with other comorbidities such as hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, and vasculopathies. Thus, human DCM is not specifically identified after heart failure is established. In this sense, echocardiography has been traditionally cons

Cardiovascular diseases account for approximately 80% of deaths among individuals with diabetes mellitus, with diabetic cardiomyopathy as the major diabetic cardiovascular complication. Hyperglycemia is a symptom that abnormally activates multiple downstream pathways and contributes to cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, apoptosis, and other pathophysiological changes. Although glycemic control has long been at the center of diabetes therapy, multicenter randomized clinical studies have revealed that intensive glycemic control fails to reduce heart failure-associated hospitalization and mortality i

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) was first recognized more than four decades ago and occurred independent of cardiovascular diseases or hypertension in both type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients. The exact mechanisms underlying this disease remain incompletely understood. Several pathophysiological bases responsible for DCM have been proposed, including the presence of hyperglycemia, nonenzymatic glycosylation of large molecules (e.g., proteins), energy metabolic disturbance, mitochondrial damage and dysfunction, impaired calcium handling, reactive oxygen species formation, inflammation, cardiac ce

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is defined as cardiac disease independent of vascular complications during diabetes. The number of new cases of DCM is rising at epidemic rates in proportion to newly diagnosed cases of diabetes mellitus (DM) throughout the world. DCM is a heart failure syndrome found in diabetic patients that is characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy and reduced diastolic function, with or without concurrent systolic dysfunction, occurring in the absence of hypertension and coronary artery disease. DCM and other diabetic complications are caused in part by elevations in bl

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the nucleolus expression in the diabetic cardiomyopathy.
METHODS: The rats were divided into a control group and a type II diabetic cardiomyopathy group (model group). In the model group, rats were fed with high-fat and high-sugar food (rats were intravenously injected with 60 mg/kg chain urea with cephalosporins in the 5th and 6th weeks in mice). The level of blood glucose was determined at the end of 8th week and the level of fasting blood glucose was examined at the end of 20th week. The ratio of the heart mass and body mass was calculated, and the pathological ch

The functional and morphological changes in myocardium of diabetic patients is caused by diabetic macroangiopathy, diabetic microangiopathy, autonomic neuropathy and metabolic disorders. Mechanism of these changes in the course of diabetes is not fully known. To determine whether there are myocardial ultrastructure differences between patients with diabetic cardiomyopathy (normal coronary angiograms) and diabetic patients with coronary artery disease, electron microscopy examination were performed of 70 sections received from seven biopsied patients (1F, 6M), average age 53 years (range: 42-60

Diabetes mellitus represents a major global health challenge and is strongly associated with cardiovascular complications, among which diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a major contributor to heart failure. Increasing evidence indicates that mitochondrial dysfunction plays a central role in DCM pathogenesis. However, mitochondrial abnormalities in the diabetic heart reflect not merely cellular injury but a coordinated process of mitochondrial metabolic reprogramming, characterized by altered substrate utilization, impaired oxidative phosphorylation, and disruption of mitochondrial quality contr

AIMS: It is well known that patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) have an increased risk of both ischemic and non-ischemic heart disease. We studied sex differences in the microvascular function and myocardial extracellular fibrosis that underlie cardiac dysfunction.
METHODS: In a cross-sectional echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging study, myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV), myocardial blood flow at rest (MBFrest) and during adenosine-induced stress (MBFstress), and the myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) were determined in 221 patients with T2D without isch

Empagliflozin (EMPA), a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), represents a novel therapeutic agent for diabetes management. Over the past decade, studies have consistently demonstrated that EMPA not only effectively lowers blood glucose levels but also confers substantial cardiovascular benefits without inducing hypoglycemia. This holds for individuals with or without diabetes, highlighting EMPA's potential in mitigating the risk of adverse cardiovascular events and cardiovascular mortality. The underlying mechanisms driving these advantageous effects remain incompletely understoo

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DbCM) is a common but underrecognized compli-cation of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Although the pathobiology of other cardiac complications of diabetes such as ischemic heart disease and cardiac autonomic neuropathy are mostly known with reasonable therapeutic options, the mechanisms and management options for DbCM are still not fully understood. In its early stages, DbCM presents with diastolic dysfunction followed by heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction that can progress to systolic dysfunction and HF with reduced ejection fraction in its adv

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycaemia that seriously affects human health. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a major cardiovascular complication and one of the main causes of death in patients with DM. Although DCM attracts great attention, and new therapeutic methods are continuously developed, there is a lack of effective treatment strategies. Therefore, exploring and targeting new signalling pathways related to the evolution of DCM becomes a hotspot and difficulty in the prevention and treatment of DCM. Pyroptosis is a newly discovered regulate

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DC) is a pathophysiologic condition caused by diabetes mellitus (DM) in the absence of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and hypertension that can lead to heart failure (HF), manifesting itself in the early stages with left ventricular hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction, with marked HF and decreased systolic function in the later stages. There is still a lack of direct evidence to prove the exact existence of DC. Ferroptosis is a novel form of cell death characterized by reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and lipid peroxidation. Several cell a

The increasing attention towards diabetic cardiomyopathy as a distinctive complication of diabetes mellitus has highlighted the need for standardized diagnostic criteria and targeted treatment approaches in clinical practice. Ongoing research is gradually unravelling the pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy, with a particular emphasis on investigating various post-translational modifications. These modifications dynamically regulate protein function in response to changes in the internal and external environment, and their disturbance of homeostasis holds significant relevance for the devel

Diabetes mellitus is one of the major causes of ischemic and nonischemic heart failure. While hypertension and coronary artery disease are frequent comorbidities in patients with diabetes, cardiac contractile dysfunction and remodeling occur in diabetic patients even without comorbidities, which is referred to as diabetic cardiomyopathy. Investigations in recent decades have demonstrated that the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), impaired handling of intracellular Ca2+, and alterations in energy metabolism are involved in the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy. AMP deaminase (AM

Diabetes is a long-term chronic disease, and cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), one of the cardiovascular complications of diabetes, has many uncertain factors. Epicardial fat, as the heart fat bank, functions as fatty tissue and is the heart's endocrine organ. The existence of diabetes affects the distribution of heart fat and promotes the secretion of adipokine. In different pathological conditions, it can promote the secretion of pro-inflammatory adipokine, reactive oxygen species, oxidative stress, and even autophagy, thus affecting cardiac

Diabetes mellitus and heart failure have a bidirectional relationship and can affect one another. Ventricular dysfunction that occurs in the absence of coronary atherosclerosis and hypertension in patients with diabetes mellitus is termed diabetic cardiomyopathy. Lipotoxicity, increased oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are a few of the mechanisms implicated in diabetic cardiomyopathy. Patients with diabetes mellitus undergo cardiac structural changes leading to heart failure. The novel glucose-lowering medication that is now preferred for diabetic patients with heart failure is t

Diabetic heart disease is a growing and important public health risk. Apart from the risk of coronary artery disease or hypertension, diabetes mellitus (DM) is a well-known risk factor for heart failure in the form of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DiaCM). Currently, DiaCM is defined as myocardial dysfunction in patients with DM in the absence of coronary artery disease and hypertension. The underlying pathomechanism of DiaCM is partially understood, but accumulating evidence suggests that metabolic derangements, oxidative stress, increased myocardial fibrosis and hypertrophy, inflammation, enhanced
