Elder women's visual narratives of digital technology in Kerala.

Elder women in India are routinely positioned at the margins of digital ageing research, framed as technologically deficient rather than structurally excluded. This Photovoice study challenges that framing by examining how thirty elder women (aged 60-85) in Kochi, Kerala, experience, represent, and negotiate digital technology in everyday life. Using their own smartphones, participants generated photographs over a four-week period. Individual photo-elicitation interviews were conducted, and reflexive thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke was employed using ATLAS.ti Version 25. Six analy

Rethinking measurement of movement-evoked pain with digital technology.

Movement-evoked pain (MEP) may be a useful metric for phenotyping musculoskeletal pain conditions. However, there is significant disagreement over operationalization, and no studies have assessed stability of MEP over time. Fitbit and Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) data were collected from adults with moderate-to-severe chronic pain schedule to receive lumbar/thoracolumbar fusion surgery (N=114). On average, participants provided 323 h of Fitbit data and 74 EMA surveys (84% completion rate). To mimic task-based assessment of MEP using the 6-minute walk test, EMA pain ratings completed w

Two distinct neural pathways for mechanical versus digital technology.

Technology pervades every aspect of our lives, making it crucial to investigate how the human mind deals with it. Here we examine the cognitive and neural foundations of technological cognition. In the first fMRI experiment, participants viewed videos depicting the use of mechanical tools (e.g., a screwdriver) and digital tools (e.g., a smartphone) compared to simple object movements. Results revealed a key dissociation: mechanical tools extensively activated the dorsal and ventro-dorsal visual streams, which are motor- and action-oriented brain systems. Conversely, digital tools largely engag

Innovative Approach for Interim Facial Prosthesis Using Digital Technology.

Despite the important role of facial prosthetic treatment in the rehabilitation of head and neck cancer patients, delay in its implementation can be unavoidable, preventing patients from receiving a prompt facial prosthesis and resuming a normal social life. Here, we introduce an innovative method for the fabrication of an interim facial prosthesis. Using a 3D modeling system, we simplified the fabrication method and used a titanium reconstruction plate for facial prosthesis retention. The patient received the facial prosthesis immediately after surgery and resumed a normal social life earlier

Evaluating eye-hand coordination with digital technologies.

Digital tools, such as computerized wobble boards (WB), offer a novel approach to assess dynamic balance in lower limbs. Since their potential for evaluating eye-hand coordination remains unexplored, this study assessed the inter-test reliability and concurrent validity of WB measurements for upper limb fine motor skills, proposing WB as an alternative to the Grooved Pegboard test (GPT). Fifty-three healthy participants completed WB and GPT tests, and a WB retest after 48 h. The custom WB software displayed real-time performance via a motion marker and target zone. Participants moved the marke

Technological neuropsychology: Assessing cognition in a digital world.

Clinical neuropsychology was forged in a pre-digital era, and many of its core instruments still bear that imprint. Patients are still commonly assessed with paper-and-pencil tests in quiet rooms, under conditions that only weakly approximate the technology-saturated environments in which cognition is now expressed. Over the past decade, the field has advanced substantially: tele-neuropsychology has broadened access, artificial intelligence has begun to support scoring and documentation, and calls to modernise neuropsychological assessment have intensified. Yet these developments, while import
