Chlorpyrifos and dimethoate exposure impairs female fertility by deregulating WNT signaling pathway & uterine receptivity.

The study assessed histological, biochemical, oxidative stress, and molecular parameters to evaluate the consequences of Chlorpyrifos and Dimethoate exposure on uterine health in female rats. Despite showing no obvious signs of toxicity apart from minor clinical symptoms in DM-exposed rats, both pesticides caused degenerative changes in uterine tissue. This study demonstrates that pesticides induce inflammatory responses and oxidative stress in rats, by NF-κB activation and altering antioxidant enzyme levels. Besides, CPF and DM exposure disrupted gene expression of HOXA10, HOXA11, and WNT and

Changes in cellular energy allocation in Enchytraeus albidus when exposed to dimethoate, atrazine, and carbendazim.

Cellular energy allocation (CEA) is a methodology developed to evaluate the effects of toxic stress on the metabolic balance of organisms. It consists of the integration of the energy reserves available (Ea; total carbohydrate, protein and lipid content) and energy consumption (Ec) estimated by measuring electron transport system (ETS) activity. The main goal of the present study was to evaluate the effects on the energy budget of the soil invertebrate Enchytraeus albidus (Oligochaeta) after exposure to dimethoate, atrazine, and carbendazim (by testing the reproduction 10% effective concentrat

Behavioral and physiological effects of acute sublethal exposure to dimethoate on wood mice, Apodemus sylvaticus.

The effects on behavior and cholinesterase (ChE) of an OP pesticide, dimethoate, were examined in wood mice under laboratory conditions. Mice were administered 0, 5, 15, or 50 mg/kg intraperitoneal dimethoate and their behavior was recorded in an open field for one hour. In a second experiment, using only the 0 and the 50 mg/kg dose, mice were subjected to 10-min open field tests repeated at various time intervals during a 24-h period. Shortly after administration of dimethoate, there was a general, dose-dependent, behavioral depression that was characterized by increased inactivity and decrea

Plasmid-mediated dimethoate degradation by Bacillus licheniformis isolated from a fresh water fish Labeo rohita.

The Bacillus licheniformis strain isolated from the intestine of Labeo rohita by an enrichment technique showed capability of utilizing dimethoate as the sole source of carbon. The bacterium rapidly utilized dimethoate beyond 0.6 mg/mL and showed prolific growth in a mineral salts medium containing 0.45 mg/mL dimethoate. The isolated B licheniformis exhibited high level of tolerance of dimethoate (3.5 mg/mL) in nutrient broth, while its cured mutant did not tolerate dimethoate beyond 0.45 mg/mL and it was unable to utilize dimethoate. The wild B licheniformis strain transferred dimethoate degr

Multifaceted toxicity of dimethoate in the Pacific oyster (Magallana gigas): Biochemical, molecular, and physiological responses.

Understanding more about the risks posed by hazardous pesticides is essential, particularly for ecologically and economically important species such as the Pacific oyster (Magallana gigas). Although dimethoate toxicity has been widely studied and has led to regulatory measures in certain regions, it is still used in others, such as Tunisia. Investigations on sensitive species in such contexts can provide valuable insights for better assessing and managing potential environmental risks. This study offers a novel evaluation of the toxic effects of experimental concentrations of dimethoate after

Iron and copper codoped carbon nanodots as oxidase mimics and fluorescent probes for detection of phenol and dimethoate.

Fluorescent nanozymes represent a class of dual-functional nanomaterials that exhibit inherent enzyme-like catalytic properties alongside fluorescent emission, making them suitable for multiple detection applications. However, the number of publications on this subject is limited, primarily due to potential interference between the two processes. In this study, oxidase-like fluorescent iron and copper codoped carbon dots (Fe,Cu-CDs) were synthesized via a one-pot pyrolysis reaction. The results demonstrated that the carbon dots could catalyze the oxidative coupling reaction between phenol and

Australian stingless bees exhibit greater sensitivity to dimethoate than Apis mellifera: implications for pesticide risk assessment.

The evaluation of pesticide risks to pollinators has gained momentum in recent years, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions, due to the high diversity of bee species in these regions. These regions host many stingless bees, which, according to recent studies in the Neotropics, are highly susceptible to pesticides. Currently, it is a standard practice to use the western honey bee (Apis mellifera) as a model organism to predict pesticide risks for other bees. However, while some studies suggest that A. mellifera can adequately represent neotropical stingless bees, others report discre

Functional profiling of the rhizospheric Exiguobacterium sp. for dimethoate degradation, PGPR activity, biofilm development, and ecotoxicological risk.

This study introduces an indigenous bacterial strain, Exiguobacterium sp. (L.O), isolated from sugarcane fields in Sevur, Tamil Nadu, which has adapted to prolonged exposure to dimethoate. The strain demonstrated the capability to utilize 150 ppm of dimethoate as its sole carbon source, achieving a remarkable degradation rate of 95.87% within 5 days in mineral salt media. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses identified the presence of intermediate by-products formed during degradation, like methyl diethanol amine and aspartyl glycine ethyl ester. Notably, phosphorothioic O, O,

Dimethoate Induces DNA Damage and Mitochondrial Dysfunction Triggering Apoptosis in Rat Bone-Marrow and Peripheral Blood Cells.

Dimethoate (DM) is an organophosphorus (OP) pesticide with wide use in the pest control. Its persistence in crops and soils could possibly cause adverse health consequences in humans as well as other non-target species. Since molecular studies confirming potential genotoxicity of DM have not been previously reported, the acute in vivo toxicological impact was evaluated in Wistar rats. Significant micronuclei induction and metaphase chromosome abnormalities in bone marrow cells exposed to three different DM doses (20, 40 and 60 mg/kg-bw) at multiple treatment durations (24, 48 and 72 h) indicat

Early-life exposure to dimethoate-induced reproductive toxicity: evaluation of effects on pituitary-testicular axis of mice.

In utero and lactational exposure to organophosphate dimethoate exerted toxic impact on the reproductive system of male mice. Pregnant mice were exposed to 4, 8, and 16 mg/kg of the pesticide, the sublethal doses (2.5, 5, and 10% of Lethal Dose(50) [LD(50)]), via gavaging from gestation day (GD) 6 to postnatal day (PND) 21. The effects on the male reproductive system were evaluated at two stages: at prepubertal age (PND 22) and at the postpubertal age of PND 63. Gonadal inhibition was reflected in the significant reduction of weight and distinct histopathological alteration of testis and epidi

Changes in the central nervous activity of rats treated with dimethoate in combination with other neurotoxicants in different phases of ontogenesis.

Organophosphates are usually found in the environment with other pesticides and with pollutants of industrial origin can cause combined exposure involving unknown interactions between the agents. In this study, female Wistar rats were given 1/25 LD50 of dimethoate by gavage, combined with the same LD50 fractions of propoxur and cypermethrin or with arsenic (6.66 mg kg(-1)). The doses were given from day 5 to 15 of pregnancy, or that plus for the 4 weeks of lactation, or that plus 8 weeks for the male offspring after weaning. Control rats received distilled water.
