W.W. Eagle in 1937 described two patients with elongated styloid processes, cervico-facial pain and a history of pharyngeal trauma. Selected case reports are used to illustrate the spectrum of Eagle's Syndrome. An analysis of the prevailing theories of etiology and causation is undertaken correlating anatomy, embryology, and physiology to derive a clearer understanding of Eagle's Syndrome.

Diseases of the musculature can be caused, for example, by alimentary or traumatic issues. In three bald eagles with painful lameness and/or a reduced range of the hip joint, a muscular disease was diagnosed via radiographic examination. The eagles were kept in a falconry and trained as demonstration birds, which were displayed on a gloved hand and flown in falconry education programs. The imaging revealed varying degrees of calcification of the adductors along the course of the puboischiofemoral muscle of the left hind limb in all cases. A histological examination of the affected musculature

PURPOSE: The diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is based on symptom-based criteria due to lack of reliable disease-specific biomarkers. Gut microbiota is perturbed in IBS and when comparing different methods used to analyze gut microbiota, the results might be obscured. Therefore, in this systematic review we aimed to investigate the profile of fecal bacterial markers and dysbiosis index (DI) in patients with IBS and IBS subgroups compared to healthy controls (HCs) conducted by the same method (GA-map Dysbiosis Test based on16S rRNA sequencing).
MATERIAL AND METHOD: We searched PubMe

Recent phylogenetic and morphologic studies of Trichomonas spp. suggests that there are more than 3 species that infect the upper alimentary tract of wild birds, which include T. gallinae, T. stableri, and T. gypaetinii. In this study, investigations were conducted on the prevalence of trichomonads in the upper alimentary tract of 12 Steller's sea eagles (Haliaeetus pelagicus) and 18 white-tailed sea eagles (H. albicilla). All birds were rescued from the wild and kept at a rehabilitation facility in Hokkaido, Japan, for variable durations and did not show any symptoms of trichomonosis. The ITS

We demonstrate a safe and effective surgical technique for the operative management of Eagle syndrome, also known as stylohyoid syndrome, via transcervical styloidectomy. Fifteen patients who presented to our institution for surgical management of Eagle syndrome were included. A detailed video shows the operative techniques used to perform styloidectomy via a transcervical approach. The procedure was well tolerated without complications, and all patients were discharged on postoperative day one. Thirteen patients (87%) endorsed significant improvement or complete resolution of their presenting

A 20-year-old female presented a history of isolate left external ear pain. ENT valuation showed no alteration of the district, but an aberrant styloid process was tender to palpation in the left tonsillar fossa. Computer tomography was performed and confirmed it. Thereafter, the diagnosis of Eagle syndrome was made. The auricular branch of the vagal nerve (ABVN) was pressed by the styloid process causing the pain. This case pointed out the importance to consider anatomical alteration as elongated styloid process as a possible cause of external ear pain.

We present an unusual case of Eagle's syndrome with bilateral internal carotid artery dissection in a 45-year-old man. Initial symptomatology included ipsilateral headaches and facial sensory symptoms. A right horner's syndrome was present on clinical examination. Radiological imaging revealed an old infarct, with bilateral carotid dissections and bilateral elongated styloid processes consistent with Eagle's syndrome. Despite initiation of secondary prevention with antiplatelet therapy, he had two further ischaemic events. The case highlights the symptomatology and complications of Eagle's syn

Eagle's syndrome (ES) is a rare disease in which the styloid process is elongated and compressing adjacent structures. We describe a rare presentation of ES in which the patient presented with facial palsy. Facial palsy as a presentation of ES is very rare. A review of the English literature revealed only one previously reported case. Our case is a 39-year-old male who presented with left facial palsy. He also reported a 9-year history of the classical symptoms of ES. A computed tomography scan with three-dimensional reconstruction confirmed the diagnoses. He was started on conservative manage

The objective of this report is to summarize the symptoms, diagnostic workup, necessary imaging, and management of Eagle syndrome. A comprehensive literature review was conducted on peer-reviewed publications of Eagle syndrome across multiple disciplines in order to gain a thorough understanding of the presentation, diagnosis, and management of this disorder. Diagnoses of Eagle Syndrome have increased, in part due to the awareness of physicians to patient symptomatology. While cervical pain and dysphagia are among the typical symptoms, patients can present with a wide spectrum of benign and da

Eyes don't see what mind does not know. It is important for a clinician to refresh his knowledge frequently to recognize some of the conditions that one may come across rarely no matter how insignificant the condition may seem. Especially in a dental outpatient department setting, individuals may complain of varied symptoms which the clinician, often tends to correlate to one of the oral diseases. We present a case of Eagle's syndrome with vague clinical presentation which could have easily gone undiagnosed if not for the application of simple diagnostic procedures and aids like Orthopantamogr

Eagle's syndrome is a disease caused by an elongated styloid process or calcified stylohyoid ligament. Eagle defined the disorder in 1937 by describing clinical findings related to an elongated styloid process, which is one of the numerous causes of pain in the craniofacial and cervical region. The prevalence of individuals with this anatomic abnormality in the adult population is estimated to be 4% with 0.16% of these individuals reported to be symptomatic. Eagle's syndrome is usually characterized by neck, throat, or ear pain; pharyngeal foreign body sensation; dysphagia; pain upon head move

Eagle's syndrome, an uncommon sequela of an elongated styloid process, can manifest itself as a sensation of a foreign body in the throat and a retrogoniac or anterolateral neck pain often referred to the TMJ and the ear. When treating patients affected by temporomandibular disorders (TMD), complaining of atypical orofacial pain, and with a concomitant radiographic finding of a bilaterally elongated styloid, the possible coexistence of Eagle's syndrome should always be considered. The aim of this review is to present an overview of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and therapy for

Eagle syndrome is an aggregate of symptoms caused by an elongated styloid process, most frequently resulting in headache, facial pain, dysphagia and sensation of foreign body in throat. The proper diagnosis is not difficult with clinical history, physical examination and radiographic assessment if there is a sufficient degree of suspicion. The treatment is very effective. We report here a typical case of Eagle syndrome which was misdiagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia for many years and was treated with carbamazepine. We aim to point the place of Eagle syndrome in the differential diagnosis of fa

Eagle syndrome is characterized by secondary calcification and elongation of the styloid process. Eagle syndrome is often associated with sharp, intermittent pain along the path of the glossopharyngeal nerve located in the hypopharynx and at the base of the tongue. In some cases, the stylohyoid apparatus can compress the internal and/or the external carotid arteries and their perivascular sympathetic fibres, resulting in a persistent pain radiating throughout the carotid territory. The pathogenesis of the syndrome is not understood. The authors report the case of a 52-year-old woman with post

This purpose of this article was to report the clinical case of a patient with Eagle's syndrome. She was referred to the orthodontic clinic by her general clinician, with the complaint of temporomandibular dysfunction. The orthodontic records showed a styloid process elongation accompanied by calcification and fracture on the right side. Eagle's syndrome was diagnosed, and the patient was referred to a buccomaxillofacial surgeon for surgical correction.

INTRODUCTION: The Eagle syndrome is a rare entity characterized by a hypertrophy of the styloid process responsible for clinical signs in connection with compression of the vasculonervous structures of vicinity.
CASE REPORT: Female 40 years old who complained for 7 years about intense right temporo-parietal headache, associated with ocular pains, otalgia, tinnitus and swallowing problems. These symptoms were unilateral. The only notable antecedent was an extraction of the wisdom teeth of the lower arc 10 years before.
CONCLUSION: The Eagle syndrome is an unusual syndrome ignored by the major
