A 13-year-old male neutered cat was presented for the sudden growth of two nodular lesions close to the upper eyelid of both eyes. Fine-needle aspiration cytology was suggestive of mesenchymal neoplasia. The cat had conservative surgical excision in order to preserve the eyelids' functionality; however, the histopathological report came with a diagnosis of incompletely excised bilateral pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma. Due to the local aggressiveness of this neoplasm, the cat was treated with two sessions of cisplatin-based electrochemotherapy, delivered 14 days apart. Systemic or local toxicitie

An 8-year-old male castrated cat was referred for sudden onset of lameness. Physical examination revealed a 1x2x1cm mass originating from a footpad of the right hind leg. A diagnosis of ganglioneuroblastoma was suggested by the tumour appearance following histopathological staining with haematoxylin and eosin and haematoxylin/van Gieson. Immunohistochemical staining for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), vimentin, neuron-specific enolase (NSE), neurofilament and S100 further confirmed the diagnosis. The staging process did not indicate metastatic spread. The cat was treated with three ses

BACKGROUND: Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is a new antitumor approach that combines systemic bleomycin (BLM) with electric pulses (EP) delivered locally at the tumor site. These EP permeabilize the cells in the tissue, allow BLM delivery inside the cells, and increase BLM cytotoxicity. As an extension of our initial Phase I trial on patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) permeation nodules, we tested variations of ECT protocol to determine how to improve it.
METHODS: Seven patients with multiple and/or large permeation nodules of HNSCC or of salivary or breast adenocarcinoma

INTRODUCTION: Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a cancer of endothelial cells involving the skin and visceral organs. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an alternative treatment option for patients with cutaneous malignancies of skin and non-skin origin not suitable for conventional treatments. ECT exerts anti-tumour activity through enhanced drug delivery to tumour cells and cytotoxicity, inducing immunogenic tumour cell death and through a vascular-disrupting effect.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this multi-institutional prospective, observational study, we aimed to evaluate the outcomes of using ECT as a treat

This narrative review explores the potential role of electrochemotherapy (ECT) in treating anorectal tumors, focusing on its effectiveness, feasibility, and associated toxicities. ECT, which combines chemotherapy with the application of an electric field to enhance drug uptake by tumor cells, has shown promise as a local treatment, particularly in cases where conventional therapies such as radiotherapy have been exhausted or are unsuitable. The review, conducted according to SANRA guidelines, included 18 studies, on ECT in anorectal tumors, ranging from preclinical trials in dogs to case repor

Interventional Oncology treatments grant low-risk mini-invasive alternatives to surgery for cancer patients. Percutaneous ablative therapies represent a cornerstone for treatment of liver cancer patients. Among these, a newly emerging one is represented by electrochemotherapy. Improvements in analgesia and sedation can nowadays offer optimal support for ablative procedures, serving as a valid alternative to general anesthesia. The intention of this retrospective monocentric study is to report our preliminary experience on feasibility and safety of electrochemotherapy for treatment of complex l

RATIONALE: According to scientific literature, cryoablation (CA) and electrochemotherapy (ECT) have been used for the treatment of small renal masses. However, no data have been published regarding the combination of these techniques as therapy of primary kidney cancers. Therefore, we report the case of an old woman affected by localized kidney cancer and discuss the potential therapeutic application of CA combined with subsequent deep ECT in this setting.
PATIENT CONCERNS: An 85 years-old-woman was evaluated because of a localized kidney cancer. Her background history included long-time hype

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common cutaneous malignant tumor, accounting for up to 80% of non melanoma skin cancers. Surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been for long time the main options for its treatment. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is a novel local treatment successfully used in primary skin tumors. We report a case of a man affected by ulcerated basal cell carcinoma treated with ECT. In our case ECT was successful in the management of extensive basal cell carcinoma in clinical conditions whereas other approaches, would have been dangerous and inappropriate. To our knowledge, EC

Electrochemotherapy consists of administration of the chemotherapeutic drug followed by application of electric pulses to the tumor, in order to facilitate the drug uptake into the cells. Only two chemotherapeutics are currently used in electrochemotherapy, bleomycin and cisplatin, which both have hampered transport through the plasma membrane without electroporation of tumors. Based on extensive preclinical studies, elaborating on parameters for effective tumor treatment and elucidating the mechanisms of this therapy, electrochemotherapy is now in clinical use. It is in standard treatment of

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous angiosarcoma (cAS) is a highly aggressive malignancy that challenges the radicality of surgical treatment. Electrochemotherapy (ECT), a skin-directed treatment based on cytotoxic chemotherapy combined with local electric pulses, may be an intraoperative adjunct and a new opportunity in the therapeutic strategy. This cohort study reports the experience with ECT as an option.
METHODS: Data on patients with locally-advanced/metastatic cAS who underwent ECT between October 2013 and October 2018 at eight European centres were prospectively submitted to the InspECT (Internatio

Electrochemotherapy (ECT) combines the administration of cytotoxic agents with high-voltage electric pulses that transiently permeabilize tumor cell membranes and enhance intracellular drug uptake. This minimally invasive, nonthermal technique is particularly suitable for tumors located near critical structures, where surgery, radiotherapy, or percutaneous thermal ablation may be limited. In the spine, ECT can provide pain relief, neural decompression, and local tumor control while preserving neural structures. However, its implementation remains challenging due to complex vertebral anatomy, l

Electrochemotherapy has been used successfully for treatment of recurrent head and neck skin cancers and skin metastasis. It combines both electroporation and chemotherapy. The authors report 4 patients, who all had metastatic periorbital malignancy. These patients were palliative with widespread metastatic malignancy. All patients had either already had multiple procedures or declined surgical resection and preferred less involved measures. The authors report technique and outcomes. Patient 1: 83-year-old man with recurrent malignant melanoma (MM) nodules (BRAF negative) in the left medial or
