Butyrate-producing Eubacterium rectale inhibits gastric carcinogenesis and augments the efficacy of immunotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Immunotherapy has transformed gastric cancer (GC) treatment, but therapeutic resistance remains a major limitation. Recent evidence suggests that the gut microbiota can modulate anti-tumor immunity and enhance immunotherapy response, offering a promising avenue to overcome resistance. METHODS: Using a prospective GC cohort, we identified Eubacterium rectale (E. rectale) as a bacterium associated with improved efficacy of tislelizumab plus chemotherapy and longer progression-free survival (PFS). We then conducted in vitro and in vivo experiments to evaluate the effects of E. rectale

A Surgical Case of Infected Popliteal Artery Aneurysm From Rare Bacteria, Eubacterium sp.

A 79-year-old man presented to our hospital with complaints of a sudden worsening of swelling in the right popliteal fossa and fever persisting for a week. Upon close examination, an infected popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) was identified. Given the risk of rupture, the patient was advised to undergo surgery. The surgical procedure involved resecting the infectious PAA using a lateral approach. Additionally, a bypass was performed from the superficial femoral artery to the below-knee artery, utilizing the great saphenous vein located at the posterior aspect of the knee. Surgical findings revea

Adaptive laboratory evolution enables autotrophic growth of Eubacterium limosum under defined medium conditions.

Eubacterium limosum is an acetogen capable of metabolizing one-carbon (C1) substrates, such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and methanol, via the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway. However, most acetogens require complex media containing undefined components, such as yeast extract, to support their autotrophic growth, which hinders a precise understanding of their fundamental autotrophic metabolism and impedes cost-effective bioprocess development. In this study, E. limosum was subjected to adaptive laboratory evolution through the stepwise reduction of yeast extract over 653 generations u

Eubacterium rectale is a potential marker of altered gut microbiota in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

UNLABELLED: Previous studies have profiled the gut microbiota among psoriatic patients compared to that among healthy individuals. However, a comprehensive understanding of the magnitude, direction, and detailed compositional and functional profiles remains limited. Additionally, research exploring the gut microbiota in the context of both plaque psoriasis (PsO) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is lacking. To assess the taxonomic and functional characteristics of the gut microbiota in PsO and PsA patients and investigate potential links between the gut microbiota and disease pathogenesis. We coll

Rewiring a methanol-responsive regulatory system improves glucose-methanol co-utilization in Eubacterium limosum.

BACKGROUND: Methanol is a promising one-carbon (C1) feedstock for sustainable bioproduction, and its mixotrophic co-utilization with other substrates can improve product formation. However, mixotrophy often leads to sequential substrate utilization that delays methanol assimilation, and the regulatory basis underlying this phenotype remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the regulatory mechanism governing methanol utilization in a methylotrophic acetogen and to determine whether rewiring this system could improve methanol co-utilization. RESULTS: Here, we identify a dual-layer

The Eubacterium Rectale Derived Extracellular Vesicles Alleviate Cancer Cachexia Induced Lipolysis by Inhibiting Macrophage Polarization.

Cancer cachexia (CC) is a complex pathological condition associated with cancer progression and poor prognosis, particularly in gastrointestinal cancers, and is closely linked to the gut microbiota. Lipolysis in CC may play a key role in driving cachexia progression. However, the role of the gut microbiota in CC-induced lipolysis and the underlying mechanisms remains unclear. In this study, we found that significant gut microbiota dysbiosis in pancreatic cancer cachexia, characterized by diminished abundance of Eubacterium rectale (E.rectale), was negatively associated with lipolysis severity.

Eubacterium album sp. nov., a butyrate-producing bacterium isolated from faeces of a healthy human.

An oval to rod-shaped, Gram-stain-positive, strictly anaerobic bacterium, designated LFL-14T, was isolated from the faeces of a healthy Chinese woman. Cells of the strain were non-spore-forming, grew optimally at 37 °C (growth range 30-45 °C) and pH 7.0 (growth range 6.0-9.0) under anaerobic conditions in the liquid modified Gifu anaerobic medium (mGAM). The result of 16S rRNA gene-based analysis indicated that LFL-14T shared an identity of 94.7 0% with Eubacterium ventriosum ATCC 27560T, indicating LFL-14T represented a novel taxon. The results of genome-based analysis revealed that the avera

Eubacterium limosum modulates gut microbiota and produces anti-inflammatory metabolites to alleviate DSS-induced colitis.

INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the intestine, for which no cure currently exists. The gut microbiota play a critical role in ameliorating IBD, and Eubacterium limosum has emerged as a potential probiotic with anti-inflammatory properties. However, the specific anti-inflammatory effects of E. limosum and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unexplored. METHODS: The E. limosum strain El1405 was utilized to evaluate its effects on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced murine colitis. The structural changes in intestinal microbiota were as

Antimicrobial susceptibilities of Eubacterium, Peptostreptococcus, and Bacteroides isolated from root canals of teeth with periapical pathosis.

Eubacterium, Peptostreptococcus, and Bacteroides were isolated in high frequency from root canals with acute periapical inflammation. The antimicrobial susceptibilities of these strains were studied by determining minimum inhibitory concentrations of different agents. Although all three kinds of isolates were susceptible to penicillins, the isolates other than black-pigmented Bacteroides were less susceptible to cephems, tetracyclines, and macrorides with several resistant strains. All strains were uniformly resistant to aminoglycosides. Some differences in susceptibilities were observed among

Exploring C1 substrate cofeeding in Eubacterium limosum with AneVO, a low-cost anaerobic parallel bioreactor platform.

Acetogenic bacteria have emerged as attractive biocatalysts for renewable biochemical production, using the highly efficient Wood-Ljungdahl pathway to convert a range of sustainable single-carbon (C1) feedstocks. The major challenge is their energy-constrained anaerobic lifestyle, which results in slow growth and limits the product spectrum. To overcome this limitation, here we investigate substrate co-metabolism in the acetogen Eubacterium limosum, cofeeding either carbon monoxide (CO) or glucose alongside the primary C1 substrate (methanol or formate). To increase experimental throughput, we

Establishment of Eubacterium cellulosolvens in the digestive tract of axenic and meroxenic mice: influence of feed cellulose content.

The cellulolytic bacterial species present in the caecum and colon contents of conventionally reared mature mice did not become established in the digestive tract when inoculated to axenic mice, whatever the size of the inoculum or the cellulose content of the diet. The cellulolytic bacterium Eubacterium cellulosolvens SC 10 isolated from mouse digestive flora was unable to become established in the digestive tract of axenic mice whatever the cellulose content of the diet; it requires a feed rich in cellulose and a highly diversified microflora.

Mechanistic insights into cordycepin-enhanced CTLA-4 blockade efficacy via Eubacterium rectale-mediated immunomodulation in colon cancer.

Colon cancer remains a therapeutic challenge due to limited efficacy of current treatments. This study investigates the synergistic antitumor effects of cordycepin combined with CTLA-4 inhibitors, focusing on their ability to reshape the gut microbiome. By integrating multi-omics approaches, we elucidate the mechanisms underlying the enhanced efficacy of this triple therapy. Our findings reveal that cordycepin combined with CTLA-4 inhibitors significantly improves antitumor efficacy in the MC38 colon cancer mouse model. This enhancement is mediated by the critical role of the Eubacterium brach

A case of relapsed lung abscess caused by Eubacterium brachy infection following an initial diagnosis of pulmonary actinomycosis.

We report a rare case of lung abscess due to Eubacterium brachy. In this case, an analysis of the aspirate from frank pus revealed Gram-positive coccobacilli. We initially strongly suspected lung abscess associated with actinomycosis because of the chronic/recurrent clinical course and radio-pathological findings such as a granuloma lesion. Although a biochemical analysis revealed Actinomyces sp., 16S rRNA gene sequencing and a phylogenetic tree analysis of the isolated strain confirmed the presence of E. brachy. Some cases previously diagnosed as actinomycosis might be correctly diagnosed as
