[Effects of Dexamethasone, Fluorometholone and Florex on intraocular pressure after photorefractive keratectomy].

To evaluate the results of elevated intraocular pressure (IO) secondary to dropping of 0.1% Dexamethasone, Fluorometholone and Florex for 1-3 months after photorefractive keratectomy, we summed up and analysed the 3-month follow-up data on 546 eyes in three groups. The rates of IO elevated in Dexamethasone, Fluorometholone and Florex were 36%, 12.4% and 31.9% respectively. After topical use of corticosteroid, some of the elevations of IO took place as early as two weeks, but most of them occurred around 1 month. Eleven patients with IO elevation of both eyes had visual acuity decreased associa

Evaluation of a new tropical steroid, fluorometholone, in the postoperative course of the cataract operation.

This is a study of the effect of steroids on ocular tension, in the postoperative course, in a group of 23 patients operated upon simultaneously for cataract in both eyes. In the right eye fluorometholone and in the left eye dexamethasone drops were instilled 3 times a day. Tensions which were somewhat higher were appreciated after the third week of the postoperative course in the eyes treated with dexamethasone.

Fluorometholone 0.1% as Ancillary Therapy for Trachomatous Trichiasis Surgery: Randomized Clinical Trial.

PURPOSE: To assess the hypothesis that fluorometholone 0.1% eye drops are safe and effective as adjunctive therapy for trachomatous trichiasis (TT) surgery; determining the most promising dose. DESIGN: Randomized, placebo-controlled, double-masked parallel dose-ranging clinical trial. METHODS: Patients undergoing upper lid TT surgery at a rural Ethiopian hospital were randomized to fluorometholone 0.1% twice daily for 4 weeks, 4 times daily for 4 weeks, 4 times daily for 8 weeks, or matching frequency placebo in a 3:1:3:1:3:1 ratio for 1 eye. Randomization was stratified by TT severity (1-4

Effects of lodoxamide, disodium cromoglycate and fluorometholone on tear leukotriene levels in vernal keratoconjunctivitis.

PURPOSE: We compared tear leukotriene B4 (LTB4) and leukotriene C4 (LTC4) levels of vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) patients with those of age-matched controls and evaluated the effects of disodium cromoglycate (DCG) 2%, lodoxamide 0.1% and fluorometholone 0.1% on the tear LTB4 and LTC4 levels of the VKC patients. METHODS: Thirty VKC patients were divided into three groups and their tear LTB4 and LTC4 levels measured with an enzyme-linked immunoassay technique before and after treatment with either lodoxamide 0.1%, DCG 2% or fluorometholone 0.1%. The results were compared with the tear LTB4

Controlled comparison of two fluorometholone formulations in the antigen challenge model of allergic conjunctivitis.

We compared the safety and efficacy of MethaSite, a gel-forming suspension (0.1% fluorometholone), to a commercially available 0.1% fluorometholone ointment, FML S.O.P., using an antigen challenge model. Subjects with known allergic histories were exposed to increasing concentrations of cat dander, ragweed, or grass at visits 1 and 2. Allergic responses of conjunctival injection, chemosis, and subjective itching were quantified on a scale from zero to 3; the sum of these ratings constituted the total allergic score. At visit 3, 105 subjects with total scores of > or = 5 received a drop of Meth

Comparative study of the intraocular pressure effects of fluorometholone 0.1% versus dexamethasone 0.1%.

The intraocular pressure effect of fluorometholone 0.1% was compared with that of dexamethasone 0.1% by performing corticosteroid provocative tests on 24 matched pairs of eyes. Fifteen of the 24 dexamethasone treated eyes, 62.5%, showed a change in intraocular pressure greater than 5 mmHg, with mean delta P = 8.58 mmHg and range 0 to +20 mmHg. Only 2 of the 24 fluorometholone treated eyes, 8.3%, showed a change in pressure greater than 5 mmHg, with mean delta P = 2.96 mmHg and range -2 to +14 mmHg. There was a highly statistically significant difference between the intraocular pressure effects

A topical fluorometholone nanoformulation fabricated under aqueous condition for the treatment of dry eye.

Fluorometholone (FMT) is a frequently prescribed drug for the alleviation of dry eye. However, due to low aqueous solubility, it has been routinely used as an ophthalmic suspension, which is characterized by low bioavailability, inconvenience of administration, and difficulty in delivering accurate dose. Furthermore, the opaque appearance of the ophthalmic suspension is not desirable for optical purpose. In the present study, a transparent FMT nanoformulation (FMT-CD NPs) was fabricated by the cyclodextrin (CD) nanoparticle technology without organic solvents. It was demonstrated that FMT was

Effect of fluorometholone/tetrahydrozoline fixed combination on conjunctival autograft morphology after primary pterygium excision.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of a fluorometholone/tetrahydrozoline fixed combination on conjunctival graft morphology after primary pterygium excision. METHODS: The patients who underwent pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft transplantation were randomized into three groups based on postoperative medications as the fluorometholone/tetrahydrozoline group, fluorometholone group, and dexamethasone group. Conjunctival graft thickness was measured with anterior segment optical coherence tomography. The conjunctival graft hyperemia was evaluated using a high definition external camera.

Safety and efficacy of sodium cromoglycate-fluorometholone fixed combination eye drops in allergic conjunctivitis.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of sodium cromoglycate with fluorometholone in patients with allergic conjunctivitis. METHODS: We conducted a single-arm phase IV open-label trial where fifty patients who received the eye drops were followed for 4 weeks. Treatment efficacy was assessed using the ocular itching score, conjunctival assessment score, total symptom and sign (TSS) score, and Visual Analog Scale (VAS). RESULTS: Patients who received sodium cromoglycate-fluorometholone eye drops experienced significant improvements in their ocular itching score (mean diff

Fluorometholone-antibiotic interactions in canine ocular bacteria: in vitro susceptibility changes in common corneal infection pathogens.

INTRODUCTION: Corticosteroid-antibiotic combinations are commonly used in veterinary ophthalmic practice, yet the potential for corticosteroids to modulate antimicrobial susceptibility remains incompletely characterized. This study evaluated the in vitro effects of fluorometholone (FML) on the antimicrobial susceptibility of three major canine ocular pathogens-Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Streptococcus canis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa-and compared its interaction profile with that of dexamethasone. METHODS: Thirty clinical isolates from dogs with bacterial keratitis were tested using sta

Fixed-Combination Eye Drops Based on Fluorometholone Nanoparticles and Bromfenac/Levofloxacin Solution Improve Drug Corneal Penetration.

PURPOSE: The multi-instillation of three commercially available (CA) eye drops [fluorometholone (FL)-, bromfenac (BF)- and levofloxacin (LV)-eye drops] has been used to manage pain and inflammation post-intraocular surgery. However, the multi-instillation of these three eye drops causes corneal damage, and the FL drops have the disadvantage of low ocular bioavailability. To overcome these problems, we prepared fixed-combination eye drops based on FL nanoparticles (FL-NPs) and BF/LV solution (nFBL-FC), and evaluated the corneal toxicity and transcorneal penetration of the nFBL-FC eye drops.
