Optical coherence tomography findings in adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this article is to analyze cross-sectional images of a subretinal macular lesion, using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in eyes with adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy (AOFVD), to compare thickness of the neurosensory retina over the lesion with best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of each eye, and to compare OCT tomograms of AOFVD patients with OCT of Best disease. DESIGN: Observational case series. METHODS: This is a retrospective study which took place in a clinical practice. Forty-three patients (72 eyes) with AOFVD and 12 patients (24 eyes) with Bes

Quantitative microvascular alterations in butterfly-shaped pattern dystrophy and adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy.

PURPOSE: To study retinal microvascular parameters in patients with butterfly-shaped pattern dystrophy (BPD) and adult foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy (AFVD). METHODS: This case-control study included BPD and AFVD patients in a tertiary university hospital. Eyes with known ocular disease and prior ocular surgery other than uncomplicated cataract surgery were excluded. Right eyes of healthy individuals without systemic or ocular disease were included as controls. En face 6×6mm angiograms were obtained with the RTVue XR Avanti (Optovue, USA). We used the Kruskal-Wallis test to compare vessel

Prominent clinical, structural, and vascular features of adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy: a comparative study with subgroup analysis.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy (AFVD) is a rare, slowly progressive disorder that shares features with other macular diseases. A thorough analysis of its structural and vascular characteristics is increasingly important for understanding its aetiology and distinguishing it from others. BACKGROUND: Structural retinal changes of AFVD are well documented; the relationship between vascular alterations and disease mechanisms remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the clinical, structural, and vascular characteristics of AFVD patients and healthy controls.

Choroidal neovascularization associated with butterfly-shaped pattern dystrophy - a case report.

The pattern dystrophies (PDs) are a group of primarily autosomal dominant inherited macular diseases that cause the deposition of lipofuscin in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and may lead to significant vision loss in later life. Patients can develop choroidal neovascularization (CNV) and/ or geographic atrophy (GA) and for this reason they are often misdiagnosed as age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We presented a case of a 66-year-old patient complaining of vision loss in the right eye (RE) for 8 months. At the initial examination, his best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.6 in th

Prevalence of reticular pseudodrusen in newly presenting adult onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy.

PurposeTo report the association and prevalence of reticular pseudodrusen (RPD) in eyes with newly presenting adult onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy (AFVD). To compare the strength of association with other pathologies resulting from dysfunction of the choroid-Bruch's membrane-retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) complex, including eyes with geographic atrophy (GA) and angioid streaks.MethodsRetrospective single-centre review of all consecutive newly presenting AFVD. Multimodal imaging with spectral domain optical coherence tomography, fundus photographs, red-free/blue light images, and fu

Wide-field spectral-domain optical coherence tomography in patients and carriers of X-linked retinoschisis.

PURPOSE: To evaluate macular and extramacular retinal anatomy in patients and carriers of X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS) using a wide-field spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) imaging technique. DESIGN: Case series. PARTICIPANTS: Six XLRS-affected male subjects and 3 XLRS female carriers. METHODS: The subjects prospectively underwent XLRS DNA genotyping and comprehensive ophthalmic examination, including visual acuity, 30-2 Humphrey visual field, fundus photography, and wide-field SD-OCT, a montage technique to generate SD-OCT images spanning approximately 50 degrees horizo

Enhanced S-Cone Syndrome: Spectrum of Clinical, Imaging, Electrophysiologic, and Genetic Findings in a Retrospective Case Series of 56 Patients.

PURPOSE: To describe the detailed phenotype, long-term clinical course, clinical variability, and genotype of patients with enhanced S-cone syndrome (ESCS). DESIGN: Retrospective case series. PARTICIPANTS: Fifty-six patients with ESCS. METHODS: Clinical history, examination, imaging, and electrophysiologic findings of 56 patients (age range, 1-75 years) diagnosed with ESCS were reviewed. Diagnosis was established by molecular confirmation of disease-causing variants in the NR2E3 gene (n = 38) or by diagnostic full-field electroretinography findings (n = 18). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Age at o
