Violence against women and girls is widespread in the Caribbean, which may be due to heightened acceptance of such acts in this specific social context. In spite of this, studies investigating attitudes toward violence and their correlates among participants drawn from the region are missing. To address this void in the literature, we examined associations between violence exposure and victimization and two gender-based violence-related cognitions (attitudes toward male physical domestic violence and social norms regarding physical violence against girls) as well as general beliefs about viole

INTRODUCTION: Gender-based violence (GBV) not only poses significant public health and human rights challenges but is also closely associated with HIV. GBV acts as a barrier to HIV prevention, testing, and treatment adherence, and fear of GBV inhibits disclosure of HIV status to sexual partners. In Malawi, where both GBV and HIV prevalence is high, integrating GBV services into HIV care is crucial. We describe the integration of GBV services into Lighthouse Trust's HIV testing and treatment clinics in Malawi, including screening, documentation, intervention implementation, outcomes, and lesson

In both public and academic discourse, gaslighting has gained increased attention, especially regarding psychological abuse, power imbalance, and gender-based violence (GBV). However, the term gaslighting is often inconsistently defined and conflated with broader forms of manipulation. It is also largely examined in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV), which ignores its occurrence in other forms of GBV. The present study presents a systematic review that synthesizes interdisciplinary academic literature to create a comprehensive framework of gaslighting. This framework includes the

INTRODUCTION: We analyze the gender-based violence against women considering the Aymara ethnic ascendance as a casual factor.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We applied the spanish version of the Index of Spouse Abuse Scales (ISA) and Woman Abuse Screening Tool (WAST) on 400 women, which currently live in the region of Arica and Parinacota, Chile.
RESULTS: The individuals show that non-physical violence is the predominant behavior in couples and higher rate of violence is present in women with Aymara ancestry than others.
CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that social constructions of gender may be a risk fact

BACKGROUND: Since 2014, over 1.6 million people have been forcibly displaced by the conflict in eastern Ukraine. In 2014, 8% of reproductive-aged women in Ukraine had ever experienced sexual violence, compared to 5% in 2007. This increase was driven by non-domestic sexual violence. Our study examined characteristics of women in eastern Ukraine receiving psychosocial services following sexual violence compared to survivors of other forms of gender-based violence.
METHODS: Intake data collected between February 2016 and June 2017 by psychosocial service providers in five conflict-affected areas

Literature on the psychological effects on women survivors of violence (WSV) suggests there may be a relationship between the specific type of gender-based violence and patterns in the development of mental health consequences. Understanding these relationships would support early targeted (or early specialist) intervention. Since violence against women in families is a common social health problem in developing countries, the study attempted to explore the abuse specific reaction patterns within such a context. A total of 600 WSV (mean age = 26.86, SD = 7.47) were recruited from different soc

Crimes against women, including dowry deaths, miscarriage, and cruelty by husband or in-laws, remain a pervasive social issue in India. This study examines the spatiotemporal patterns and spatial autocorrelation of these crimes in Rajasthan, India, before, during, and after the COVID-19 lockdown. Leveraging data from the National Crime Records Bureau from 2018 to 2022, we employed spatial scan statistics to identify high-intensity hotspots and analyze their evolution. For spatial autocorrelation, Moran's I Index was evaluated and a Logistic regression model was employed to identify factors aff

Although women victims of gender-based violence suffer health and self-care issues, there is still a lack of coordinated integrated support programmes aimed at mitigating the socio-health impact of gender-based violence on women that are suitably adapted to new social contexts. Given the importance of analysing the effectiveness of integrated psycho-socio-educational interventions and self-care programmes, this study reviews the interventions and programmes implemented in Spain, focusing specifically on their implementation and impact in the autonomous region of Navarra. The data reviewed were

INTRODUCTION: Gender-based violence (GBV) is a major public health problem that disproportionately affects women. In Cameroon, as well as other countries worldwide, GBV has immediate effects on women's health, with one in three women experiencing physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner, affecting their physical and reproductive health. The objective of this study was to determine the health risks associated with GBV among women in Yaoundé.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Yaoundé (Cameroon), from August to October 2022. Adverse health outcome included mental diso

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a major global public health issue due to its short- and long-term adverse effects on women's health. Little is known about the factors associated with physical and emotional violence among female school students in Ethiopia. We determined the magnitude and risk factors of emotional violence, physical violence, sexual violence, and any form of GBV among 1,199 female school students in eastern Ethiopia using the facilitated self-administered questionnaires. The prevalence of any form of GBV in the past 12 months was 53.04% (95% CI: 50.22-55.87). Around 52% (95% CI

Gender-based violence (GBV) perpetration is a global public health problem due to its detrimental effect on health and education. This study aims to determine the prevalence of gender-based violence perpetration by male students in eastern Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study was conducted in eastern Ethiopia in December 2018. A total of 1064 male students were involved in the study. Data were collected using an adaptation of the WHO Multi-Country Study self-administered questionnaire on the Women Health and Life Event. Descriptive statistics were calculated using STATA version 14. The prevalence

The dire impact of gender-based violence on society compels development of models comprehensive enough to capture the diversity of its forms. Research has established hostile sexism (HS) as a robust predictor of gender-based violence. However, to date, research has yet to link men's benevolent sexism (BS) to physical aggression toward women, despite correlations between BS and HS and between BS and victim blaming. One model, the opposing process model of benevolent sexism (Sibley & Perry, 2010), suggests that, for men, BS acts indirectly through HS to predict acceptance of hierarchy-enhancing

This scoping review explores the beliefs, motivations and needs of individuals involved in incel communities, especially in the context of increasing online hate speech and violence against women. Incels, who belong to the 'manosphere', are characterised by their violent tendencies toward both women and men and often believe that women's sexual freedom has negatively affected society (Tomkinson et al., 2020). The review involved a comprehensive search across multiple databases, including MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest Central, EMBASE and PsycINFO, which yielded 1,028 articles. After

BACKGROUND: South Africa (SA) is known to have high levels of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and HIV. Studies that explore the intersections of the two phenomena tend to be done at sites that provide services for survivors of SGBV, but few have explored experiences of SGBV of individuals attending HIV testing and treatment health facilities. Although HIV voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) services are generally well practised at ensuring pre- and-post-test counselling, there is little evidence that SGBV is included in routine screening. There is therefore a gap in knowledge of th

Current methods to estimate the incidence of gender-based violence in complex emergencies tend to rely on nonprobability samples. Population-based monitoring is undertaken relatively infrequently. This article provides a systematic review of published literature that represents attempts to quantify the magnitude of gender-based violence in emergency settings. Searches adopted a Boolean procedure, which led to initial selection of material that was then reviewed against set criteria. Only 10 studies met the final criteria for inclusion. Intimate partner violence, physical violence, and rape wer

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a major global health issue with severe physical and psychological consequences. Women, gender diverse people, and individuals from non-dominant cultural backgrounds face heightened risks, and women with disabilities are two to three times more likely to experience violence than those without disabilities. This scoping review consolidates existing evidence and identifies knowledge gaps regarding GBV among people living at the intersection of disability, cultural diversity, and gender. We searched six databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, Global Health, Scopus, Pr

OBJECTIVES: The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated existing socioeconomic and health disparities, including disparities in sexual health and well-being. While there have been several reviews published on COVID-19 and population health disparities generally-including some with attention to HIV-none has focused on sexual health (ie, STI care, female sexual health, sexual behaviour). We have conducted a scoping review focused on sexual health (excluding reproductive health (RH), intimate partner violence (IPV) and gender-based violence (GBV)) in the COVID-19 era, examining sexual behav

The study explores the health-related consequences of gender-based violence against women in South Africa. Accordingly, gender-based violence (GBV) has become a serious and pervasive issue in South Africa, affecting practically every aspect of life. Gender-based violence (GBV) persists as a widespread public health emergency in South Africa, disproportionately impacting women across various socio-economic and cultural contexts. This study examines the many health-related effects of gender-based violence, utilising both quantitative data from healthcare facilities and qualitative insights from

Gender-based violence (GBV) has been plaguing our society for long back. The severity of GBV has spurred research around understanding the causes and factors leading to GBV. Understanding factors and causes leading to GBV is helpful in planning and executing efficient policies to curb GBV. Past researches have claimed a country's culture to be one of the driving reasons behind GBV. The culture of a country consists of cultural norms, societal rules, gender-based stereotypes, and social taboos which provoke GBV. These claims are supported by theoretical or small-scale survey-based research that
