Glomus tumours are the most common primary neoplasms of the middle ear, typically benign and slowly progressive. Pulsatile tinnitus and ipsilateral hearing loss are the most common symptoms at presentation by far; otalgia, aural fullness and otorrhoea being less frequent. A case of primary glomus tympanicum presenting with recurrent epistaxis, previously unreported in the literature, is described and associated imaging presented.

Middle ear tumors are diverse, but relatively uncommon. The most frequent tumor in the middle ear is glomus tumor, followed by others such as schwannoma and cholesteatoma. We experienced a case of Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue hyperplasia as a middle ear tumor. The mass behind tympanic membrane appeared a hypervascular tumor, mimicking a glomus tumor, but the form of multiple separate masses in middle ear and mastoid cavity was the distinguishing feature that set it apart from a glomus tumor. Additionally, another characteristic was its tendency to easily shrink under pressure. This charac

In summary, MR imaging characteristics of a case of paraganglioma of the facial nerve are reported. The relationship of paragangliomas and the chromaffin system have been discussed. There are many reports of cases of synchronous paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas. These reports, along with simultaneous involvement in familial MEN syndromes, and the common embrylogic origin (neural crest) and similar histopathologic relationships between paragangliomas and pheochromocytoma, all support the fact that they are part of the chromaffin system.

IMPORTANCE: Glomus tympanicum is a rare, highly vascular paraganglioma of the middle ear that may cause pulsatile tinnitus and hearing loss. Management decisions, particularly in older adults, must balance symptom control with the risks of intervention.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the long-term clinical course of an incidentally discovered glomus tympanicum managed with watchful waiting and close surveillance.
DESIGN: Case report with 5 years of longitudinal follow-up.
SETTING: Outpatient otolaryngology and neuro-otology referral practice.
PARTICIPANTS: An 82-year-old woman evaluated for dizzin

Glomus tympanicum is a slow-growing benign tumor that can be locally destructive, spreading along the path of least resistance. Conventionally seen as soft tissue mass in the middle ear, it is difficult to distinguish glomus tympanicum from other soft tissue masses of the tympanic cavity, especially as it hides behind an intact tympanic membrane. The primary diagnostic modalities are CT scan and MRI for evaluation of the exact anatomical extent and size of the glomus tumors. Embolization following an angiographic study helps to identify the feeding arteries with subsequent blocking of the same

Though glomus tumors have been relatively frequently reported, there is very little material about their differential diagnostic problems. The authors present a case of glomus tympanicum and glomus caroticum with only otological symptoms, facial paralysis and traumatic arterio-venous shunts in the neck. These two tumors had few different patterns of glomus tissue.

INTRODUCTION: Glomus tympanicum is a benign tumor classified under the group glomus tumors, and is also known as paragangliomas.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 52 years old woman presented with unilateral pulsatile tinnitus and hearing loss. She had a visible reddish mass behind the eardrum; Temporal bone CT scans suggested middle ear mass secondary to Glomus Tympanicum tumors. With the diagnosis of Modified Fisch-Mattox class A2 middle ear paragangliomas the tumors was surgically removed (7 mm × 5 mm on the right) using post-aural approaches. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of paraganglioma. Th

Glomus tympanicum is a hypervascular, benign neoplasm with a slow rate of growth. The incidence of this pathology is higher in females than in males and mainly occurs in the fifth to sixth decade of life. Pulsatile tinnitus and hearing loss are the main clinical features. We present the case of a 70-year-old female patient who was admitted to the otolaryngology service with a 1-month history of epistaxis and equilibrium disorder that caused a ground-level fall.

We have treated 14 patients with glomus tumor during the 4 years (of 1993 to 1997) using Leksell Gamma Knife radiosurgery. The male: female ratio was 1:3.7, and the mean age 48.6 years (range 22-75 years). The mean tumor volume was 5.5 cm3 (range 0.7-11.3 cm3). The mean maximum dose was 37.4 Gy (range 20-44 Gy). The mean margin dose was 19.4 Gy (range 10-25 Gy). In 3 patients, infrabasal spread of the tumor could not be delineated on peroperative stereotactic CT scans. As a result, this portion of the tumor was treated in 2 patients at a second stage using stereotactic MRI. Follow-up in 11 pat
