Giant cell granuloma of the maxilla.

The case report is of a 30 year old male, who complained of a slowly expanding swelling in the maxilla in the left premolar region. The swelling was clinically and radiographically diagnosed as Central Giant Cell Granuloma. The patient also had Angles Class 2 Division 2 Malocclusion in which repeated micro trauma may have possibly contributed to the formation of the tumor. The tumor was surgically removed under general anesthesia followed by local injections of corticosteroids.

Sino-orbital giant cell reparative granuloma.

An otherwise healthy, 9-year-old boy had gradual onset of a mass deformity in the region of the left medial canthus with resulting superior and lateral globe displacement. Radiographic evaluation demonstrated an osteolytic, expansile lesion involving the bones of the ethmoid and maxillary sinuses. Combined anterior orbitotomy and nasal endoscopic surgical resection revealed additional involvement of the nasolacrimal sac wall. Histopathology was consistent with a giant cell reparative granuloma. The authors know of 15 case reports of sino-orbital giant cell reparative granulomas with ophthalmic

Giant cell granuloma of the lung.

In a 50-year-old man without bronchopulmonary symptoms a round mass lesion close to the hilum of the right lung was detected in a routine chest x-ray and confirmed by computed tomography. Histological examination of two biopsy specimens did not result in a definitive diagnosis. Therefore thoracotomy with enucleation of the focus was performed. The histological picture of the lesion is characterized by connective tissue proliferation, multinucleated giant cells, ossification, localised hemorrhage, deposits of hemosiderin and foci of foam cells. The findings are interpreted as a giant cell granu

Peripheral giant cell granuloma manifestation in pregnancy.

The peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) is a benign oral lesion occurring on the gingiva and alveolar ridge. It is the most common oral lesion and occurs at an average age of 30 years. The upsurge in the levels of estrogen and progesterone in pregnancy leads to a plethora of changes in various parts of human body, including the oral cavity. In the oral cavity, changes are commonly seen on the gingiva. These include pyogenic granuloma, PGCG and also peripheral ossifying fibroma, etc., The etiology of PGCG in our case might be related to hormonal alterations during the gestation period.

Peripheral giant cell granuloma: a case report.

Peripheral giant cell granuloma is a rare exophytic lesion that develops on the gingiva and alveolar ridge. Although the precise etiology of this lesion is unknown, it could represent a local reaction to trauma or irritation. Management requires a surgical excision of the lesion and elaborate recall due to possible recurrence. This report describes the clinical and histopathological features and management of a peripheral giant cell granuloma as it appeared in the maxillary anterior region of a 35-year-old female patient.

Central giant cell granuloma of the jaws.

Central giant cell granuloma was classified by the World Health Organization in 2005 as a rarely aggressive idiopathic benign intraosseous lesion that occurs almost exclusively in the jaws. It occurs most frequently in young women (aged <30 y). This osteolytic lesion histologically consists of proliferation of fibrous tissue, hemorrhagic focuses, hemosiderin deposits, osteoclast-like giant cells, and reactive bone formation. Differential diagnosis has to be made with other osteolytic neoformations of the jaws, both unicystic and multicystic (odontogenic tumors, fibrous dysplasia, cysts, etc).

Generalized granuloma annulare and giant cell arteritis.

Granuloma annulare (Gan) and giant cell arteritis (GCA) share common histologic features. In Gan, a disease characterized by the presence of palisading granulomas usually in the dermis, the main alteration is the presence of elastic fiber degeneration and it strongly suggests that the primary target leading to the development of this disorder is the injury to the elastic tissue. On the other hand, in giant cell arteritis (GCA), a vasculitis involving large-and middle-sized blood vessels, the main histologic features are the disruption of the internal elastic lamina and the nonsuppurative granu

Calcitonin therapy for central giant cell granuloma.

PURPOSE: A number of alternative nonsurgical therapies have been advocated in recent years for the management of the central giant cell granuloma (CGCG). These include calcitonin injections, intralesional steroid injections and subcutaneous alpha-interferon injections. This report provides the results of calcitonin therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten patients received calcitonin therapy, 9 via subcutaneous injection and 1 via nasal spray, for the management of a CGCG. Patients were reviewed retrospectively RESULTS: In 8 cases, the lesions resolved completely after 19 to 21 months of subcutan

[Giant cell reparative granuloma of the skull].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical course, histologic feature, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of giant cell reparative granuloma (GCRG). METHODS: Three cases of GCRG, which arose in the skull, were collected from 1987 to 1999 and analyzed clinicopathologically. RESULTS: Two patients had the lesion in the temporal bone and one in the orbit. One patient with GCRG had a recurrence after incomplete surgical resection. Histologically, all of three cases were characterized by fibroblastic proliferation with osteoclast-like giant cell rich areas, hemorrage, and newly formed bon

Dermoscopy of annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma.

Annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma is an uncommon granulomatous cutaneous disease that usually affects sun-exposed skin. Non-scarring alopecia is a possible presentation. Although histopathology is mandatory for the diagnosis, dermoscopy may help to narrow down the clinical differential diagnosis. The authors report a case of annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma in the scalp of a female adult patient, showing multiple yellowish/orange follicular dots in a diffuse erythemato-whitish background in the dermoscopy.

Giant Cell Arteritis with Generalized Granuloma Annulare.

We report the case of an 80-year-old man with generalized granuloma annulare (GGA) who subsequently developed giant cell arteritis (GCA). Steroid treatment was effective for both diseases in this case. Although cases of concomitant GGA and GCA have rarely been reported, previous studies suggest that common histological characteristics underlie the two diseases. It is therefore necessary to recognize that GGA can be complicated by GCA, particularly when typical symptoms, such as headache and visual disturbance, are present.

Peripheral Giant Cell Granuloma in a Dog.

Peripheral giant cell granuloma is considered rare in the dog with little known about the clinicopathologic features. There are few reports in the veterinary literature concerning this benign, reactive lesion, formerly known as giant cell epulis. In humans, the four most commonly described reactive epulides are focal fibrous hyperplasia (fibrous epulis), pyogenic granuloma, peripheral ossifying fibroma, and peripheral giant cell granuloma. This case report describes the diagnosis and surgical management of a peripheral giant cell granuloma in a dog.

Peripheral giant cell granuloma: a case report.

Peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) is a benign inflammatory hyperplastic lesion of unknown etiology that occurs in the gingiva or alveolar ridge. It normally manifests as a soft tissue nodule, purplish-red in color, consisting of multinucleated giant cells in a background of mononuclear stromal cells and extravasated red blood cells. This article presents a case of a 75-year-old man whose chief complaint was painless swelling in the posterior mandibular region. Intraoral examination revealed a swelling that was red, firm, and sessile, with a smooth surface texture. An orthopantomogram reve

Esthetic management of peripheral giant cell granuloma.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) is a relatively rare hyperplastic lesion of the oral cavity. The lesion occurs in females more frequently than males and more often in the mandible than the maxilla. Although the precise etiology of PGCG is unknown, it might represent a local reaction to trauma or irritation. METHODS: In general, treatment requires a wide excision of the lesion due to its possible recurrence. RESULTS: This report describes the clinical and histopathological findings of PGCG diagnosed in the maxilla of a young male, as well as the successful treatment of a gi

Giant-cell reparative granuloma of the tibia.

Giant-cell reparative granuloma (GCRG) occurs in the jaw, temporal bone, and short tubular bones of the hands and feet. Although GCRG can affect long bones, only small numbers of such cases have been sporadically reported. This report describes a giant-cell reparative granuloma in the proximal tibia in a 60-year-old woman, describes features of GCRG in long bones and reviews the literature. A 60-year-old female patient was referred to us with complaints of moderately tender swelling of the right leg. Whole-body scintigraphic scanning was performed, which incidentally also disclosed a distal fe

[Giant-cell reparative granuloma: a case report].

We report a case of giant-cell granuloma located in the maxilla of a 9-year-old child. The pathogenesis of giant-cell reparative granuloma (GCRG) remains obscure. Radiological features are variable. Radiolucency or well or ill-defined uni-or multilocular aspects with trabeculations can be observed. Symptoms of compression on the adjacent tooth's root and pathology findings confirm the diagnosis. Curettage is effective and recurrence is rare.

Central giant cell granuloma: a troublesome lesion.

This case reports a central giant cell granuloma, an uncommon but potentially troublesome idiopathic benign lesion. Its radiographic similarity to a routine inflammatory periradicular lesion led to not only delay in diagnosis, but also further delay in successful treatment.
