Rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata (RCDP) is a class of peroxisomal disorders characterized by defective plasmalogen biosynthesis. There are multiple recognized types of RCDP, all of which have autosomal recessive inheritance, and their associated genes are known: RCDP type 1 with PEX7, RCDP type 2 with GNPAT, RCDP type 3 with AGPS, RCDP type 4 with FAR1, and RCDP type 5 with PEX5. Among other medical/developmental issues, plasmalogen deficiency has a direct effect on bone growth and results in postnatal growth failure, the severity of which corresponds to the degree of plasmalogen deficienc

Beckwith-Wiedemann spectrum (BWSp) is an overgrowth disorder caused by (epi)genetic alterations in chromosome 11p15. This study aimed to develop BWSp-specific growth charts and explore genotype/phenotype correlations with respect to growth. Heights, weights, and head circumferences were retrospectively collected from 581 individuals with BWSp from the Netherlands, Italy, and the United States. The Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale, and Shape (GAMLSS) method was employed to develop the following charts: height-for-age, weight-for-age, BMI-for-age, and head circumference-for-age fo

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is associated with short stature, which is mild, severe and moderate in OI types I, III and IV, respectively. Standardized OI type- and sex-specific growth charts across all pediatric ages do not exist.
METHODS: We assessed 573 individuals with OI (type I, III or IV), each with at least one height measurement between ages 3 months and 20 years (total 6523 observations). Analogous to the Centers for Disease Control pediatric growth charts, we generated OI type- and sex-specific growth charts for infants (ages 3-36 months) as well as children and adolesc

Children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) often demonstrate growth differences compared with typically developing (TD) children. However, growth charts have not been developed for this population. The purpose of this study was to create AMC-specific growth charts and to compare these values to those of TD children. A retrospective review of height/length and weight for 206 children with AMC was performed. Growth charts were developed and stratified over seven percentiles; these were then compared with growth charts of TD children. Children with AMC tend to be smaller in stature an

We present the results of a prospective, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study performed on a Mexican population of 1867 children, aged 0-18 years, with Down syndrome (DS), observed between 2013 and 2019. A total of 9968 measurements of height, weight, and head circumference, as well as calculation of body mass index (BMI) were used to create growth charts and tables of percentiles. Growth curves were elaborated using Cole's LMS method. The mean weight and length at birth did not differ by sex: the weight was 2750 g for boys and 2710 g for girls (p > 0.05), and the length was 48.2

OBJECTIVE: Faciocraniosynostoses (FCS) are malformations affecting the development of the bones of the skull and face, due to the premature closure of one or more craniofacial sutures, mostly secondary to activating Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor (FGFR) 1-3 mutations. Gain-of-function FGFR3 mutations are also responsible for various conditions referred to as osteochondrodysplasia (OCD), characterized by structural and functional abnormalities of growth plate cartilages. We hypothesized that patients with FGFR-related faciocraniosynostoses may present extra-cranial growth anomalies.

Coffin-Siris syndrome (CSS; OMIM #135900) is a rare, multisystem syndrome caused by pathogenic variants in genes encoding the BRG-1 associated factors complex (BAF). Individuals with CSS often present with feeding difficulties and failure to thrive during infancy, in addition to a number of variable congenital anomalies. Nutritional interventions are used to support growth in this population, and growth hormone therapy has been reported in a limited number of cases. The purpose of this study was to construct CSS-specific growth charts to better characterize the growth in this population. Anthr

Costello syndrome is a rare condition due to heterozygous germline mutations in the proto-oncogene HRAS. It affects multiple organ systems and includes severe failure-to-thrive, short stature, and macrocephaly. The goal of this study was to develop Costello syndrome-specific growth curves. We collected height, weight, and head circumference (OFC) measurements from 94 individuals (45 males and 49 females). Their HRAS mutation spectrum reflects previously published cohorts, with p.G12S in 77.7%. Participants received medical care, therefore our data does not reflect natural history per se, but r

Growth charts are essential for monitoring the postnatal growth of preterm infants. The preterm postnatal follow-up study (PPFS) of the Intergrowth-21st Project provides new growth standards based on a longitudinal study. This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of extrautrine growth restriction (EUGR) and the associated factors of EUGR in preterm infants, using the PPFS charts and the Fenton charts. Data of 1,356 infants with gestational age (GA) less than 28 weeks from the Korean Neonatal Network were analysed. The prevalence of small for gestational age (SGA) of weight and len

Background: Accurate identification of fetal growth restriction in fetal autopsy is critical for assessing causes of death. We examined the impact of using a chart derived from ultrasound measurements of healthy fetuses (World Health Organization fetal growth chart) versus a chart commonly used by pathologists (Archie et al.) derived from fetal autopsy-based populations in diagnosing small-for-gestational-age (SGA) birth in perinatal deaths. Study Design: We examined perinatal deaths that underwent autopsy at BC Women's Hospital, 2015-2021. Weight centiles were assigned using the ultrasound-ba

INTRODUCTION: The choice of fetal growth chart to be used in antenatal screening for fetal growth restriction (FGR) has an important impact on the proportion of fetuses diagnosed as small for gestational age (SGA), and on the detection rate for FGR. We aimed to compare diagnostic accuracy of SGA diagnosed using four different common fetal growth charts [Hadlock, Intergrowth-21st (IG21), World Health Organization (WHO), and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)], for abnormal placental pathology.
METHODS: A secondary analysis of data from a prospective cohort study i

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to develop head circumference (HC) growth charts specific to infants and young children diagnosed with benign enlargement of the subarachnoid spaces. By modeling HC trajectories, we sought to establish normative curves that distinguish benign macrocephaly from pathologic causes of head enlargement. Our objective was to support accurate monitoring, reduce unnecessary imaging, and guide appropriate referral decisions in pediatric patients with macrocephaly.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective analysis of HC measurements was conducted using data from 137 patients aged 0-6

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to create specific growth velocity reference charts for monochorionic (MC) twin pregnancies and provide additional information for assessing fetal growth in MC twins.
STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective study collected data from uncomplicated MC twins with serial ultrasound parameters. The four ultrasound parameters, including biparietal diameter, femur length, head circumference, and abdominal circumference, were used to calculate the estimated fetal weight (EFW). Multilevel linear regression models were applied to fit growth velocity charts for each biometric parameter and

INTRODUCTION: Muscle strength preservation may play an important role in protecting against cardiometabolic diseases, functional decline, musculoskeletal deterioration, and early all-cause mortality. However, sex-specific strength growth charts and curves using data from a U.S.-representative sample and clinically feasible measurement remain to be established.
METHODS: A sample of 7,119 individuals, aged 6-80 years, was included from the 2011-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Analyses were performed in 2015. Grip strength was assessed using a hydraulic handheld dynamomete

Childhood development and pubertal milestones continue to be pillars of pediatric growth monitoring, but increasing trends in childhood obesity and precocious puberty indicate that existing 'normal' criteria may be misleading. Here, we suggest a shift from anthropometry-based growth references to metabolically informed benchmarks that better reflect long-term health outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: To derive reference distributions of estimated fetal weight (EFW) in twins relative to singletons.
METHODS: Gestational-age- and chorionicity-specific reference distributions for singleton percentiles and EFW were fitted to data on 4391 twin pregnancies with two liveborn fetuses from four European centers, including 3323 dichorionic (DC) and 1068 monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies. Gestational age was derived using the larger of the two crown-rump length measurements obtained during the first trimester of pregnancy. EFW was obtained from ultrasound measurements of hea
