In 26 patients with hydatid disease interferons (IFN) blood levels by titration method and HLA-antigens by lymphocyte cytotoxicity microtest were estimated. At ages 31 and 42 years, two brothers presented with clinical, pharmacologic, electrophysiologic, and immunologic characteristics of autoimmune myasthenia gravis. At thymectomy, both had histologic findings of epithelial thymoma. HLA analysis revealed A2, A3, B7, and B39 antigens in one patient and A3, A24, B7, and B40 antigens in the other. Familial myasthenia gravis with thymoma has not been described previously. Familial thymoma has been rarely reported, but never with myasthenia gravis.

The incidence rate of HLA class I and II antigens has been studied in 168 and 82 patients with diffuse toxic goiter, respectively. Positive association is found for HLA antigens A2, A3, A28, B8, B15, B17, Cw4, DR5; negative one with antigens A24, Bw4, Bw6, Cw1, Cw2, Cw3, Cw5, DR9. Prevalence of antigens B15, B17, Cw4, DR5 is associated with thyrotoxicosis severity, A2 with recurrent toxic goiter. Antigen B8 plays the role of an immunogenetic marker of endocrine ophthalmopathy.

The analysis of the clinical and HLA profiles of 99 patients with Reiter's syndrome is reported. Antigen HLA-B27, which has previously been firmly associated with Reiter's syndrome, predisposes patients to develop disease features which reflect articular involvement. In 74 out of 88 patients suffering from PCT (84%), we found histochemical evidence of liver siderosis. We investigated the iron status of 33 pyruvate kinase (PK) deficient patients, most of the cases reported in Italy. Serum ferritin (SF) was higher than the upper limit of the range of matched controls in 15/25 (60%) non-transfused patients (median 228 micrograms/l, range 58-3160 v 43, 22-310). A total of 55 gastric ulcer patients and 1045 healthy persons were investigated for 36 HLA antigens (A, B, C loci). The study revealed that HLA B12, B15, B35, Cw4 were more common in the patients (34.55, 18.18, 27.27 and 25.45%, respectively). HLA A3 (10.9% in the patients and 25.74% in those healthy) is found to be protective against gastric ulcer. The data obtained are considered with regard to heterogeneity of the disease.

Heterozygous beta thalassaemia with microcytic anaemia (hemoglobin concentration 77 g/l) has been recognized in a 49 year-old woman of Alsatian extraction. A possible HLA disease association was investigated in 40 patients (38 female, 2 male) with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) and 42 patients (32 female, 10 male) with morphea.
