The current work describes an association between pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and class II HLA alleles in the Slovak population, the first such study in Slovakia on the 'high-resolution level'. This work takes into account the new HLA allele nomenclature, officially adopted in 2010. In particular, we have focused on the associations between PV and DRB1*14:54 and DRB1*14:01. This case-control study was performed in a cohort of 43 PV Caucasian patients and 113 Caucasian control subjects from Slovakia. HLA typing was performed using PCR-SSP (polymerase chain reaction with sequence-specific primers).

The relative distributions of 12 HLA-DR6-related HLA-DRB1 alleles in indigenous populations of Australia, Melanesia, Polynesia, Micronesia, and northern and southern China have been determined by analysis of nucleotide sequence polymorphisms in 364 examples of HLA-DR6 positive chromosomes. Oligonucleotide hybridizations of polymerase chain reaction products of HLA-DQA1, DQB1, DRB1 and DRB3 genes generated 24 HLA-DR6-related haplotypes. The study aimed to determine the regional distribution of DR,DQ haplotypes associated with three novel HLA-DR6 alleles, namely DRB1*1408, 1409, and 1410, known

We studied the association of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DRB1 and HLA-DQB1 alleles and HLA haplotypes with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) in 65 patients and 65 controls from Colombia. The JRA subsets were distinguished on the basis of criteria established by the American College of Rheumatology. Two alleles were associated with protection, HLA-DRB1*1501 (p = 0.002) and HLA-DRB1*1402 (p = 0.01). HLA-DRB1*1602 (p = 0.0000002) was associated with susceptibility for systemic JRA and HLA-DRB1*1104 (p = 0.0002) for pauciarticular JRA. Amino acid sequences at residues 70-74 of DRB1 chain shar

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a sporadic disorder that has been increasingly linked to inherited genetic factors. Previous studies have demonstrated that human leukocyte antigen (HLA) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of MG. We determined the genotypes of the HLA-A, B, and DRB1 alleles in 257 southern Chinese Han MG patients using polymerase chain reaction sequence-based typing (PCR-SBT). The allele frequencies in the MG patients were compared to 292 healthy controls using the case-control method. HLA-A*0207, HLA-B*4601, HLA-DRB1*0403, HLA-DRB1*0901, and HLA-DRB1*1602 were more frequent

Naturally processed peptides from immunoaffinity-purified HLA-DRB1*0401, -DRB1*0404 (rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-associated), and -DRB1*0402 (non-RA-associated) molecules were analyzed by capillary liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The molecular weights observed for more than 60 eluted peptides from each HLA-DR protein ranged from 788 to 3535 atomic mass units, corresponding to peptides 7 to 32 amino acids in length. Sequencing of more than 60 of the abundant peptides revealed nested sets of peptides that were derived from only 12 different proteins. The majority of these proteins wer

Specific human leucocyte antigen (HLA) alleles are considered a genetic risk factor for the progression of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) caused by hantaviruses. The aim of this study was to establish whether HLA-DRB alleles are associated with the severity of HFRS caused by different types of hantaviruses in a Chinese Han population from Hubei Province of central China. Twenty-two specific HLA-DRB alleles were analysed by sequence-specific primer-polymerase chain reaction (SSP-PCR) in 100 HFRS patients and 213 healthy volunteers. Associations of HLA-DRB alleles with the severit

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: There is increasing evidence that human leukocyte antigen (HLA) allelic variants play a role in the genetic predisposition to Parkinson disease (PD). In this regard, we have recently reported that the HLA-DRB1*04:01 allele, typified by residues Q/R-K/R-R-A-A at positions 70-74 in the HLA-DRβ1 chain in combination with valine at position 11 (11-V), confers moderate protective effects. In this study, we tested whether HLA-DRB1*04:01 can modulate PD pathology in vivo.
METHODS: We induced the alpha-synuclein preformed fibrils seeding PD model in humanized mice expressing
