Trauma prevalence among people with HIV (PWH) exceeds that of the general population by 2 times in the United States. Conducted within the Florida Cohort (2019-2022; n = 509), this study aimed to (1) describe the prevalence of 12 types of traumatic experiences (TEs) over a lifetime and within the past 12 months, and (2) describe whether the prevalence of lifetime and past 12-month traumatic experiences varied by age, race/ethnicity, sex assigned at birth, and sexual orientation among PWH in Florida. Participants were predominantly non-heterosexual men (42%) aged 50 + years (59%), identified as

Estimating the prevalence of harassment, verbal abuse, and discrimination among residents is difficult as events are often under-reported. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of discrimination and abuse among surgical residents using the HITS (Hurt, Insulted, Threatened with harm or Screamed at) screening tool. A multicenter, cross-sectional, survey-based study was conducted at five academic teaching hospitals. Of 310 residents, 76 (24.5%) completed the survey. The HITS screening tool was positive in 3.9 per cent. The most common forms of abuse included sexual harassment

Multiple deployment factors may affect suicidality in combat veterans. The relationships between combat deployments and suicidality are complex and not completely understood. Studies of stress in the military and psychological effects of military actions are mostly focused on stressors relating to combat operations. However, many studies suggest that interactions within combat units affect post-deployment psychiatric conditions, suicidal ideation, and behavior. The goal of this article is to review and discuss how relationships within combat units may influence post-deployment suicide risk. St

CONTEXT: Although sexual harassment frequently occurs in medical education and medical workplaces, doctors who have been sexually harassed or assaulted by other doctors remain a largely invisible population. This study aimed to identify, using personal accounts, the impact on doctors of sexual harassment and assault by doctors in the workplace.
METHODS: This narrative study used in-depth interviews, legal reports and victim impact statements, tracing trajectories from the event's pre-history to its aftermath and impact on professional practice. Participants were six Australian women doctors w

Understanding how university members conceptualize sexual harassment is crucial, as their perceptions influence recognition, reporting, and response to the issue. The aim of this study was to explore the discourses of key university informants about sexual harassment within universities, including student representatives, university staff, and institutional representatives in equality and diversity. A qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews (November 2023 to April 2024) with 90 key informants from six universities located in Austria, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Spain. D

Despite the well-recognised benefits of sport, there are also negative influences on athlete health, well-being and integrity caused by non-accidental violence through harassment and abuse. All athletes have a right to engage in 'safe sport', defined as an athletic environment that is respectful, equitable and free from all forms of non-accidental violence to athletes. Yet, these issues represent a blind spot for many sport organisations through fear of reputational damage, ignorance, silence or collusion. This consensus statement extends the 2007 IOC Consensus Statement on Sexual Harassment a

Technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV) refers to a range of unwanted sexually related behaviors communicated and transmitted through digital technologies, including digital sexual harassment, image-based sexual abuse, sexual aggression and/or coercion, and gender and/or sexuality-based harassment. This study, based on a sample of 1246 undergraduate students (688 women, 558 men) aged 17-25 years in China, investigated the incidence of TFSV victimization and perpetration and their associations with mental health (i.e., depression, anxiety, and stress) and alcohol use. Participants complet

BACKGROUND: Sexual harassment allegations against physicians undermine trust in healthcare and present significant ethical and legal challenges. While such issues are widely discussed in the context of professional conduct, systematic analyses of judicial decisions-particularly in non-Western settings-remain limited.
AIM: This study aims to analyze Turkish Supreme Court decisions involving sexual harassment allegations by physicians toward their patients, focusing on identifying patterns, associated risk factors, and ethical implications.
METHODS: A total of 46 Supreme Court judgments (2009-

IMPORTANCE: Many rural and agricultural communities experience hardship from a shortage of clinicians. The aging of the clinician population threatens future supply in these areas. Developing policies to build a sustainable workforce requires the understanding of experiences from those currently in medical practice. Previous research about rural clinicians has primarily sampled non-Latinx white men, and to a lesser extent, non-Latinx white women; to date, no study has examined differences by race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the professional experi

Internationally, researchers studying correctional officer (CO) work have examined CO self-presentation, staff-prisoner relationships, and emotional labor. We build on this research by drawing on occupational literature to examine officer mental health outcomes that result from correctional work. We examine the impact of working in prison on COs' well-being, paying particular attention to aspects of the work content (operational stressors) and context (organizational stressors). In conducting semi-structured interviews with COs in Atlantic Canada, we found that COs identified a number of opera

BACKGROUND: Many people experience forms of gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH) in the context of their work. This includes a wide range of experiences, from subtle expressions of hostility to physical assault, that can also be of a sexual nature (e.g., sexual harassment or assault). This systematic review aimed to summarize findings about the prospective associations of work-related GBVH with people's health and occupational situation.
METHODS: We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE and PsycINFO w

OBJECTIVE: By focusing on a person-centered approach using latent class analyses (LCA), this study examined the patterns of sexual victimization among children and adolescents in South Korea and compared the psycho-behavioral outcomes of these classes.
METHODS: Participants were 546 females aged 6-17, including 117 sexual victimization survivors and 429 non-victims in South Korea. LCA, an analysis of covariance, and Bonferroni post-hoc tests were conducted. Psychological and behavioral outcomes were measured using the Korean version of the Child Behavior Checklist 6-18 and the Youth Self Repo

BACKGROUND: The present investigation expands upon prior studies by examining the relationship between health in late adolescence and the experience of physical/sexual and non-physical dating violence victimization, including dating violence types that are relevant to today's adolescents (e.g., harassment via email and text messaging). We examined the relationship between physical/sexual and non-physical dating violence victimization from age 13 to 19 and health in late adolescence/early adulthood.
METHODS: The sample comprised 585 subjects (ages 18 to 21; mean age, 19.8, SD = 1.0) recruited

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate staff's experiences with violation and humiliation during work in mental health care (MHC). A total of 1160 multi-professional MHC staff in Norway responded to an online questionnaire about their experiences with different kinds of violation and humiliation in the MHC setting. In addition, a sample of professionals (eight MHC nurses) were recruited for in-depth individual interviews.
METHOD: The study used an explorative mixed method with a convergent parallel design; this included a web-based questionnaire to MHC staff in combination with

Whole-school interventions go beyond classroom education, promoting health by modifying school environments. These can be effective in delaying sexual debut and increasing contraception use but mechanisms are poorly understood. Qualitative research within realist evaluation can explore mechanisms via building 'context-mechanism-outcome configurations', describing how interventions trigger mechanisms that interact with context to generate outcomes. We explored these for the Positive Choices whole-school sexual health intervention within the intervention arm of a randomised trial conducted 2021-

BACKGROUND: Annually, thousands of Veterans file Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) disability claims ("service connection") for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) related to military sexual trauma (MST). Service connection provides free covered healthcare and compensation. To qualify, Veterans must meet PTSD diagnostic criteria, have sufficient evidence of the MST, and establish a link between their PTSD symptoms and MST.
METHODS: Among VA-enrolled Veterans who filed for MST-related PTSD service connection between 2017 and 2022 (N = 19,509), we modeled the probability of denied PTSD serv

Transgender individuals in the United States face overwhelming systemic oppression as well as high rates of violence and victimization. However, few studies have evaluated how visibly perceived gender non-conformity works as a marker of stigma which may contribute to increased victimization. This is imperative to investigate as experiencing frequent victimization can lead to a host of negative health and life outcomes for trans and non-binary individuals. Thus, it is important to understand the intricacies of transgender victimization to further find and promote mitigating resources. In this s

BACKGROUND: The changing scope of women's roles in combat operations has led to growing interest in women's deployment experiences and post-deployment adjustment.
OBJECTIVES: To quantify the gender-specific frequency of deployment stressors, including sexual and non-sexual harassment, lack of social support and combat exposure. To quantify gender-specific post-deployment mental health conditions and associations between deployment stressors and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), to inform the care of Veterans returning from the current conflicts.

Binge drinking may be associated with adolescents' experience of multiple types of interpersonal violence perpetration and victimization, and if so, could be a malleable intervention target to prevent interpersonal violence. The current article explores the between- and within-person associations of binge drinking (i.e., 4/5 or more drinks in a row for girls/boys) with interpersonal violence among adolescents (N = 1322, 50.3% girls/women, 88.9% White/non-Hispanic, 85.9% heterosexual, 18.6% free/reduced lunch, aged 13-19) using a longitudinal design (three waves of data collection across more t

Post-9/11 veterans are increasingly diverse, yet prior studies of behavioral health and healthcare engagement have been underpowered for sex-by-race/ethnicity contrasts. The BRAVO cohort was designed to address this gap by deliberately oversampling women and racial/ethnic minority veterans. Recruitment proceeded in two parallel streams with rigorous identity verification yielding a final baseline N = 2,083. At baseline, 37.3% were female; mean age was 38.5 years. Race/ethnicity composition: Non-Hispanic White 34.4%, Hispanic 35.1%, Non-Hispanic Black 19.0%, with smaller proportions Asian, Amer
