Heat Stress Modulates WDR5-Mediated H3K4me3 Modification to Induce Melanogenesis via Activating CX3CL1/CX3CR1 Axis.

The skin's unique thermosensitivity renders it exceptionally responsive to thermal perturbations, wherein heat stress exposure disrupts cutaneous homeostasis and activates pigmentary pathways. While clinical observations consistently link heat stress to hyperpigmentation disorders, the precise molecular mechanism for heat-induced melanogenesis-particularly the epigenetic-immune crosstalk mediating this process-constitutes an unmet research challenge. Transcriptomic analysis of melasma reveals a significant positive correlation between CX3CL1 and melanogenesis. Consistently, CX3CL1 significantl

Heat stress associated depression and allied affliction: Therapeutic roles of nutrition, micronutrients, and phytochemicals-a review.

Heat stress is a critical environmental factor disrupting systemic homeostasis and impairing mental health, with increasing evidence linking prolonged thermal exposure to depression and related neuropsychological disorders. Chronic heat stress induces neuroendocrine dysregulation via hyperactivation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, alongside oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and altered neurotransmitter signaling, collectively elevating risks of mood disturbances, anxiety, cognitive decline, and sleep disorders. Emerging evidence highlights nutrit

[Classification of heat illness].

In the type of heat illness, several medical terms such as heat syncope, heat cramp, heat exhaustion, heat stroke are included. But their Japanese medical terms are neither unified nor clearly defined. To eliminate this problem, the new classification for heat illness is proposed. By the severity of heat illness, they are divided into three grades. Grade I is corresponded to heat cramp and heat syncope. Grade III is corresponded to heat stroke, and used for any one of the three following clinical findings, (1) Central nervous system dysfunction, i.e., consciousness disturbance, seizure, ataxia

Zinc intake ameliorates intestinal morphology and oxidative stress of broiler chickens under heat stress.

Zinc (Zn), an essential trace element for poultry, plays a crucial role in promoting growth, improving feed conversion efficiency, enhancing antioxidant activity, and preventing disease. This study investigated the impact of different levels and sources of dietary Zn supplementation on the growth performance, intestinal morphology and antioxidant activity of broiler chickens under heat stress conditions. In this experiment, 1024 Xueshan chickens were divided into eight groups and subjected to heat stress conditions with different levels of Zn supplementation (30 mg/kg, 60 mg/kg, and 90 mg/kg)

Evaluation of physiological and molecular responses to acute heat stress in two chicken breeds.

High environmental temperatures are a foremost concern affecting poultry production; thus, understanding and controlling such conditions are vital to successful production and welfare of poultry. In view of this, a completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement involving two local strains (Kirin chicken (KC) and Three-yellow chicken (TYC)) and two temperature groups (normal/control = 30 ± 2 °C and acute heat stress (AHS) = 35 ± 1 °C for 8-h with 70% humidity) was used to assess the main regulatory factors such as heat shock protein (HSP70) gene, cytokine genes (IL-1β, IL-6, IL

Thermosensitivity of the Microvasculature: Molecular and physiological mechanisms in skeletal muscle - A narrative review.

Chronic heat stress is a potent intervention to improve vascular health, specifically within the cutaneous and skeletal muscle microcirculation. While the role of cutaneous circulation in heat dissipation is well established, emerging evidence suggests that skeletal muscle vasculature also exhibits thermosensitivity, contributing to heat-induced hyperemia beyond metabolic demand. This narrative review explores the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying thermal hyperemia, focusing on heat-sensitive ion channels (TRPV1, TRPV4), nitric oxide (NO) signaling, and endothelial adaptations.

A skin-hypothalamus axis couples heat stress and metabolic dysfunction.

With the ongoing rise in global temperatures, the prevalence of heat-stress-related chronic health disorders has increased. However, whether heat stress has an enduring impact on metabolic health remains unclear. Here, we report that mice exposed to heat stress were more susceptible to metabolic dysfunction upon subsequent exposure to an obesogenic diet. Upon heat stress, we found that elevated skin-derived kallikrein-related peptidase 14 (KLK14) imprinted hypothalamic LRRC7+ astrocytes. These astrocytes further suppressed neighboring paraventricular nucleus (PVN)OXT neuron activity via alkB h

Single-cell RNA sequencing and PANDORA-seq reveal the pivotal role of piRNA in heat stress-induced testicular injury.

Global climate change and the greenhouse effect have accelerated the decline in semen quality of male animals. PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), a newly discovered class of non-coding RNAs, play a crucial role in spermatogenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms of piRNAs in testicular heat stress remain poorly understood. In this study, we analyzed the impact of environmental temperature on semen quality in mammals, using 23,385 data points from pigs as a representative species. We constructed a mouse testicular heat stress model and performed in vitro functional validation of selected piRNAs

Integrated analysis about the effects of heat stress on physiological responses and energy metabolism in Gymnocypris chilianensis.

The temperature of the rivers in the Qilian Mountains, China varies widely from day to night, and Gymnocypris chilianensis living in these rivers may experience a change of 10 °C to 20 °C within a day. To explore the mechanisms underlying G. chilianensis responses to heat stress, we conducted an acute temperature stress experiment. In response to heat stress, levels of antioxidant enzymes (SOD\CAT\MDA) first increased and then decreased with time, but T-AOC levels only decreased. The activities of key glycolytic enzymes HK and PFK in the liver also first increased and then decreased and transa

Heat-health interventions for people experiencing homelessness.

Extreme heat is intensifying globally and disproportionately harms people experiencing homelessness, who face continuous exposure and limited capacity to access cooling. We reviewed the literature on heat-protection interventions that report findings for people experiencing homelessness. Only 12 studies met the inclusion criteria, indicating a sparse and heterogeneous evidence base mainly from high-income countries (USA, Canada, and Australia). No eligible studies were identified from Europe despite substantial heat events in the region. Interventions included cooling centres and cooled public

ACSM Expert Consensus Statement on Exertional Heat Illness: Recognition, Management, and Return to Activity.

Exertional heat stroke (EHS) is a true medical emergency with potential for organ injury and death. This consensus statement emphasizes that optimal exertional heat illness management is promoted by a synchronized chain of survival that promotes rapid recognition and management, as well as communication between care teams. Health care providers should be confident in the definitions, etiologies, and nuances of exertional heat exhaustion, exertional heat injury, and EHS. Identifying the athlete with suspected EHS early in the course, stopping activity (body heat generation), and providing rapid

Heat Stress Promotes Fibroblast-Derived WNT5A Secretion Through m6A Modification to Activate Melanogenesis.

As the impact of global warming continues to intensify, the effects of heat stress on the skin are becoming increasingly evident. Growing clinical evidence suggests that heat stress can induce cutaneous hyperpigmentation. However, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In this study, we demonstrate that heat stress promotes repigmentation in vitiligo lesions and induces melanogenesis in depigmented mouse skin. Mechanistically, we reveal that heat stress upregulates WNT5A expression and paracrine secretion in dermal fibroblasts (FB) through METTL3-mediated N6-methyladenosine

[Predictive prognostic factors in severe patients].

International classification of heat illness including heat stroke, heat exhaustion, the others is well known. However, the new classification from the grade III(severe) to the grade I(mild) is more common in Japan. There is a good correlation between the two classifications. The Heatstroke Surveillance Committee of the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine has collected the data using the new classification. The outcome of patients who were mechanically ventilated due to heat illness was not affected by cooling procedures but independently associated with systolic blood pressure and SpO2 at
