Cerebral vasospasm is a well-known entity following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. While it has been described in trauma, it has been much less studied. There have been no previous reports of cerebral vasospasm following spontaneous subdural hematoma or after subdural hematoma evacuation. In this case report, we present a 38-year-old otherwise healthy female who suffered an acute spontaneous subdural hematoma. After surgical evacuation of her hematoma, she developed neurologic decline. Computer tomography angiography demonstrated intracranial vasospasm. She was treated with blood pressure

BACKGROUND: Non-traumatic subdural hematomas are very rarely associated with intracranial meningiomas. Pathophysiological mechanisms of such an association are not yet fully understood.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report on two patients harboring an intracranial meningioma and ipsilateral non-traumatic chronic subdural hematoma. Their history was negative for risk factors for subdural hematoma. Both patients were submitted to surgery for evacuation of the subdural collection. The presence of the meningioma was discovered during surgery. A second operation was necessary in our first case.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic spinal subdural hematoma is an exceedingly rare condition, with those occurring in the absence of intracranial disease being particularly uncommon. Only 13 such cases have been reported. Although theories exist to describe the pathophysiology of traumatic spinal subdural hematoma, the precise mechanism and guidelines for management remain unclear.
CASE DESCRIPTION: This report describes a 37-year-old woman who suffered a traumatic assault who developed progressive low back pain with radicular symptoms 2 days after presentation. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a lumba

BACKGROUND: A case of spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH) following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) because of a ruptured internal carotid aneurysm is described. Such a case has never been reported.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 52-year-old woman underwent a craniotomy for a ruptured internal carotid aneurysm. A computed tomography scan showed that SAH existed predominantly in the posterior fossa and subdural hematoma beneath the cerebellar tentorium. Intrathecal administration of urokinase, IV administration of fasudil hydrochloride, and continuous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) evacuation via cisternal drainage

RATIONALE: The co-occurrence of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) and spinal subdural hematoma (SSDH) is exceptionally rare, with ambiguous pathogenesis complicating management. This case aims to enhance understanding of its clinical trajectory, particularly the risk of intracranial progression after spinal surgery, which is critical for optimizing patient outcomes.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 45-year-old woman presented with 3 days of severe lumbocrural pain and a 3-week history of headache after head trauma. She also reported 5 days of bowel dysfunction.
DIAGNOSES: Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic spontaneous spinal subdural hematoma (ISSSDH) is uncommon in occurrence, and its association with concomitant intracranial subdural hematoma (ISDH) is very exceptional. Lack of recognition of ISDH in a patient with SSDH can lead to unanticipated events. We report a rare case of ISSSDH and unrecognized ISDH and treated surgically with a good outcome.
CASE REPORT: A 71-year-old gentleman presented with features of spinal neurogenic claudication of 2 weeks duration and was diagnosed to have ISSSDH of the lumbar spine based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In view of

Intracranial subdural haematoma is a rare but serious complication of spinal anesthesia in obstetric patients undergoing Cesarean Delivery (CD). In this case series, we analyzed 3 patients who developed acute intracranial subdural hematoma following spinal anesthesia for CD. Clinical presentation with headache of 3-4 weeks duration that worsened over 2-3 days prior to admission for neurosurgical intervention was evident in all the patients. Brain CT-Scan was the imaging modality used to confirm the diagnosis of acute intracranial subdural hematoma in all of them, and Burr hole was done to evac

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous spinal and intracranial subdural hematomas are rarely reported, especially occurring simultaneously. Anticoagulation use has been associated with spontaneous hemorrhages. Prompt diagnosis is required to prevent permanent neurological sequelae. In this case report, we describe a spontaneous spinal and intracranial subdural hematoma in a woman taking warfarin and initially presenting with severe vaginal pain.
CASE REPORT: A 42-year-old woman who had a history of mechanical valve replacement and was therefore taking warfarin, came to an emergency department for relief of

BACKGROUND: Low cerebrospinal fluid volume is typically diagnosed in patients presenting with positional headaches. However, severe intracranial hypotension and brain sagging may cause orthostatic coma. We present a case that illustrates this uncommon presentation.
METHOD: Case report.
RESULTS: A 50-year-old man presented with orthostatic headaches and then developed bilateral subdural hematomas. Following unilateral subdural hematoma evacuation, the patient became gradually drowsier and more confused. Upon transfer to our hospital, he would become comatose each time he was placed in the upr

INTRODUCTION: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) after surgical evacuation of chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is a rare but serious complication associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. This review aims to provide an updated estimate, from existing literature, of the prevalence of ICH and to analyze the clinical features, potential risk factors, treatment approaches, and outcomes in a cohort of 76 patients.
CLINICAL RATIONALE FOR THE STUDY: Because postoperative ICH can rapidly deteriorate neurological status and complicate recovery, understanding its prevalence and determinants is e

Intracranial subdural hematoma following lumbar surgery is a devastating but rare complication. It has been implicated due to intracranial hypotension secondary to persistent cerebrospinal fluid leakage. The resultant drop in intracranial pressure presumably causes traction and tearing of venous structures. Patients typically present with postural headaches. However, other symptoms of subdural hematoma, intracranial hypotension and cerebrospinal fluid leak must also be cautioned.

Percutaneous epidural neuroplasty (PEN) is a known interventional technique for the management of spinal pain. As with any procedures, PEN is associated with complications ranging from mild to more serious ones. We present a case of intracranial subdural hematoma after PEN requiring surgical evacuation. We review the relevant literature and discuss possible complications of PEN and patholophysiology of intracranial subdural hematoma after PEN.

Intracranial subdural hematoma (SDH) occurred in a 58-year-old female after laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy under general and thoracic epidural anesthesia. On postoperative day 2, she complained of headache in sitting position, but there were no remarkable neurological defect and nausea. On postoperative day 5, her headache subsided and she could walk by herself. But on postoperative day 10, she felt heavy-headed again, and complained sensory abnormality of her right leg. Magnetic resonance imaging of the head showed small acute subdural hematoma in bilateral parietal regions with no m

BACKGROUND: An acute subdural hematoma (aSDH) is a rare complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and is associated with poor clinical condition on admission and poor outcome. Risk factors for the development of an aSDH from aneurysmal rupture are unknown and may help our understanding of how an aSDH develops.
OBJECTIVE: To identify risk factors for the development of an aSDH from intracranial aneurysm rupture.
METHODS: Patients were selected from our prospectively collected single-center SAH database. From all 1757 patients fulfilling prespecified inclusion criteria, 63 had a

A 28-year-old man presented with a case of spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) manifesting as a bilateral chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) without orthostatic headache. He developed life-threatening acute SDH as a complication of CSDH drainage. Neurosurgeons should be aware that SIH patients do not always present with orthostatic headache. Brain magnetic resonance imaging with gadolinium may be recommended for young adults with non-traumatic CSDH before drainage to exclude SIH, even if they do not present with orthostatic headache.

A patient with subdural hematoma associated with multiple mycotic intracranial aneurysms is reported. A 22-year-old woman presented with headache and disturbance of consciousness. A CT showed subdural hematoma at the tentrium and the left cerebral convexity. Conservative treatment and was used and she was discharged 10 days later. However, follow-up CT demonstrated a parenchymal hematoma in the right posterior temporal lobe. Cerebral angiography demonstrated a large right posterior cerebral aneurysm and multiple right middle cerebral aneurysms. A cardiac ultrasonography showed a verruca at the

To report a case of acute intracranial subdural hematoma, pneumocephalus, and pneumorachis, which occurred because of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak caused by a malpositioned transpedicular screw during spinal surgery for severe myelodysplastic scoliosis accompanied with hydrocephalus. Intracranial hemorrhage may occur as a consequence of dural sac penetration and CSF leakage after various medical procedures at the spinal level. The awareness of this severe complication is especially important during spinal instrumentation procedures in which inadvertent dural sac violation and CSF loss may be
