Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a rare, benign, self-limiting disease characterized by local lymphadenopathy. Central nervous system involvement in KFD is extremely rare and remains a diagnostic challenge. Only 41 cases of aseptic meningitis associated with KFD have been reported worldwide, with just four cases (including our case) of KFD with meningitis as the first symptom. We report a case of KFD accompanied by aseptic meningitis with severely high intracranial pressure (400 mmH2O), increased white blood cell count (56 × 106/L), and mo

OBJECTIVE: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a self-limiting disorder characterized by histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis in the cervical lymph nodes of young women. Although an infectious etiology has been postulated, a definitive causative agent has not been identified. The few dozens of published studies are limited by small sample size and poorly structured study designs. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the association of each infectious agent to KFD that has been studied.
METHODS: We performed metaanalysis using major electronic database (MEDLINE (PubMed), Cochrane library, E

OBJECTIVES: To characterize the clinical features and to identify the predictors of recurrence of histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL) in Chinese children.
STUDY DESIGN: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics, laboratory and pathological findings, and recurrence status of children diagnosed with HNL at a single center in China from January 2018 to May 2023. Logistic regression analysis was employed to identify predictors of HNL recurrence.
RESULTS: 181 Chinese children with histopathologically confirmed HNL were enrolled (121 males and 60 females). The mean a

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadentis (HNL) is an uncommon clinical and histologic entity, essentially diagnosed in Japan since 1972. The clinical picture is usually characterized by cervical lymphadenopathy and fever, females being more often affected. Leukopenia and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate are frequent. The etiology is still unknown, but a viral origin is most likely. The clinical course is always favorable without treatment, except in one case. The histological picture, with necrotic foci surrounded by histiocytes, immunoblasts, small T lymphocytes and plasmacytoid monocytes

We report a case of histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis without granulocytic infiltration (Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease), diagnosed at necropsy in a 19-month-old child dying unexpectedly after a febrile illness. This is the youngest case with this disease that has been thus far reported. It is one of only two reported cases in which the patient died during the acute phase of the illness. Histological findings not unlike those seen in the lymph nodes were present at extranodal sites; this is the first case in which this feature has been described. In keeping with many other reported cases, it was

Kikuchi's necrotizing lymphadenitis has now become recognized in many parts of the world as a well-defined clinicopathologic entity with a remarkable predilection for cervical lymph nodes of young women. The morphologic features encountered in lymph nodes are distinctive and should enable pathologists to establish the diagnosis with confidence. Nonetheless, this analysis of 108 cases, encountered over a 15-year period, has emphasized the difficulty that many pathologists have in recognizing this disorder, and in particular, in distinguishing it from malignant lymphoma. Although in the vast maj

The Kikuchi-Fujimoto's syndrome is an histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis which is observed at any ages but preferentially among young adults. The sex ratio is about 4:1 in favour of women. It is clinically characterized by cervical lymph nodes in a context of fever and asthenia. Sometimes, there is transitory leucopenia and an increase of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. The course of the disease is spontaneously favourable in 1 or 3 months but recurrence is possible. The histology of the lymph node could mimic a malignant lymphoma and the immunohistochemical findings are of a great impo

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a benign and self-limited disease that mainly affects young women. Patients present with localized lymphadenopathy, fever, and leukopenia in up to half of the cases. KFD can occur in association with systemic lupus erythematosus. We present the case of a patient with KFD and systemic lupus erythematosus, as well as relapsing polychondritis. This patient had persistently low C4 complement levels, so she was evaluated for a genetic defect in complement production and was found to have two "null" C4 alleles. We believe t

Toxic epidermal necrolysis-like acute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (TEN-like ACLE) is an acute, life-threatening manifestation of ACLE. Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL) is a rare disease of lymph nodes that presents with fever and lymphadenopathy and is generally self-resolving. We report a case of a 48-year-old female who presented to the emergency department (ED) with fever and arthralgias in the setting of 30 lbs weight loss over two months. She had self-discharged and re-presented to the ED three weeks later with widespread, painful skin sloughing. On exam, the patient had scat

Immune checkpoint inhibitors have become one of the effective means of solid tumor treatment, among which anti-programmed death-1 (PD-1) antibodies are more maturely applied and can effectively inhibit tumor immune escape, thus enhancing the anti-tumor effect, but it can also lead to a series of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) in the process of clinical use. Here, we report a Patient with pancreatic solid pseudopapilloma treated with Sintilimab for the fifteenth cycles who developed chills, fever, and lymph node enlargement. Considering that the patient did not have infection, without hi

BACKGROUND: Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL) is a self-limited inflammatory disease of unknown pathogenesis. A very small fraction of patients with HNL could develop hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a hyperinflammatory disorder. These patients are diagnosed as HNL with HLH (HNL-HLH). HNL-HLH in the pediatric population has been systemically studied, however, the clinical, laboratory, and radiological features and outcomes of adult patients with HNL-HLH remain to be explored. We aimed to explore the clinical, laboratory, and radiological features and outcomes of adult patien

A 9-year-old Chinese girl with systemic lupus erythematosus presented initially with persistent cervical lymphadenopathy without any constitutional symptoms. The histology of the involved lymph node showed histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis and the initial clinical diagnosis of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease was made. The patient subsequently developed fever, oral ulcerations, epistaxis, generalised myalgia and erythema multiforme-like skin lesions over the face and upper arms. Investigations showed anaemia, leucopenia, hypocomplementemia, a positive antinuclear antibody and a positive anti-doubl

We describe a case of recurrent histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL) with aseptic meningitis. The patient was a 46-year-old male and a carrier of human T lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I). The patient had a past medical history of at least three relapses of HNL. In addition, his sister, who was also an HTLV-I carrier, had recurrent clinical episodes consistent with those of HNL, suggesting familial HNL occurrence. This observation suggests the possibility that HTLV-I infection is relevant to the pathogenesis of HNL.

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL) is a self-limiting inflammatory disease presenting with fever and cervical lymphadenopathy. However, no case of HNL with confirmed bacterial infection has been reported. A 38-year-old man was admitted to our hospital owing to an intermittent fever from 8 days. He was diagnosed with Graves hyperthyroidism 3 months prior and began taking methimazole tablets orally. Physical examination revealed superficial lymphadenopathy and goiter of the thyroid (grade II). Blood routine showed a decrease in peripheral blood cells, including significant reduction in
