A case of benign fibrous histiocytoma of the retroperitoneum accidentally found on ultrasound in a fifty-six year old woman is reported. Diagnosis and differential diagnosis in special consideration or radiological methods are discussed.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) cases are classified within the group of nonclassified sarcomas. The etiopathogenesis is unclear; however, MFH commonly develops in scar tissue and in areas exposed to radiation. MFH is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in adults and may be borne in the lungs, chest wall, mediastinum, or other tissues. Primary MFH of the lung constitutes less than 0.2% of all pulmonary neoplasms; thus, an optimal treatment strategy has not yet been elucidated. We aimed to report a case of MFH of the lung with subsequent treatment administration.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is one of the most common adult soft tissue sarcomas. MFH is very aggressive and is most often found in the extremities and the retroperitoneum, but it can manifest at other sites. Though the lungs are the most common sites of metastasis, they rarely present there as a primary tumor. Our report describes a rare case of a primary MFH tumor in the lung. Careful diagnostic procedure should be followed to ensure the tumor does not have extrapulmonary origins. Fibrous histiocytoma, a mesenchymal tumor, although reported to develop in various ocular structures with a variable frequency, has never been found within a pterygium. We report the case of a 50-year-old female who had had a pterygium for the last six years and had developed a tumor within it one and a half years ago. The tumor was excised along with the pterygium. On histopathological examination the tumor was found to be a benign fibrous histiocytoma arising from within the pterygium.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is an aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma that most commonly occurs in the skeletal muscle of the extremities or retroperitoneum of adults. Although the majority of MFH is located beneath the fascia, the tumor occasionally occurs in the subcutaneous tissue. MFH rarely occurs in children and the disease course, prognosis, and outcome in younger patients has not been well described. We report a case of cutaneous MFH presenting on the thigh of a 12-year-old boy.

The cases of seven patients who had a lytic lesion that was histologically similar to a metaphyseal fibrous defect (non-ossifying fibroma) of bone were studied. The patients all were adults and had pain without a fracture. Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of uncertain cell lineage with indeterminate behavior, hallmarked by EWSR1 translocations. This tumor typically arises in the subcutaneous or deep soft tissues and is composed of bland to mildly atypical histiocytoid cells with frequent intralesional hemorrhagic pseudocystic spaces. Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) is a rare tumor of soft tissue with low-grade malignancy that occurs most commonly in the soft tissues of the extremities or trunk. We present a case of AFH of the mediastinum, which is a very unusual site for this tumor. The patient has survived with no recurrence of the disease for 60 months after surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy.

A case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma resembling mycetoma is reported. We describe a patient with a draining purulent mass and localized swelling of the left ankle. The lesion's ulcerated surface produced purulent material that contained black "granules" resembling those seen in mycetoma. Cultures revealed a heavy growth of Staphylococcus aureus and no growth of fungi. Treatment with oral antibiotics resulted in resolution of the infection with persistence of the mass. Seven cases of extraretroperitoneal abdominal malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) are reported. The anatomic distribution was as follows: liver (2 cases), spleen with gastric and pancreatic involvement (1 case), mesentery (1 case), right mesocolon (1 case), left mesocolon (1 case), and urachus (1 case). These bulky lesions were often extensively necrotic; calcifications were seen in 2 cases. All 7 cases were investigated by ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT). Barium studies were performed in 4 cases, and angiography in 3 cases.

Benign fibrous histiocytoma (BFH) is a benign fibrohistiocytic neoplasm. It is documented to occur in all anatomic sites with a strong predilection for sun exposed skin surfaces. Intra oral occurrence of BFH comprises a lesser percentage of cases with tongue being the least reported site. We report a case of BFH of the tongue with an emphasis on its histogenesis and a review of the literature.

A case is reported on recurrence of a rare conjunctival fibrous histiocytoma (FH) in a 38-year-old man. The lesion was excised and subsequently sent for histopathology and immunostaining resulting in a diagnosis of fibrous histiocytoma (FH). Recurrence was detected 3 months postoperatively requiring a conjunctivosclerokeratomy with cryotherapy and flap. At 6-month followup there was no recurrence detected.

Most soft tissue sarcomas are malignant tumors of the mesodermal tissue of the head and neck, trunk, retroperitoneum or extremities, although neurosarcomas and primitive neuroectodermal tumors are of ectodermal origin. Soft-tissue sarcomas of the upper extremity constitute 14% of all soft-tissue sarcomas, they are one third as common as those of the lower extremity. The authors report two cases of retroperitoneal malignant fibrous histiocytoma which is a rare tumour (200 cases reported in the literature). The clinical and radiological signs are nonspecific and the diagnosis is based on histological examination of the specimen. Surgical resection must be as complete as possible to prevent local recurrence. The efficacy of adjuvant therapy has not been demonstrated due to the low incidence of this tumour.
