[Medical economy of home care in private hospital].

In order to analyze the economics of home care, we calculated the revenue and expenditures of both hospitalization and home care in a private hospital. The home care expenses were about 44.7% of the institutional care expenses. It became clear that home care saved medical expenses. The expenses of patients were about 33.7% less with home care. In conclusion, home care may be favorable medical care if some problems are solved. The home care expenses of a cancer patient on the institutional side were about 3.4 times more that those of a patient with other diseases. If we support home care of can

Antabus in the treatment of alcoholism in a private general hospital.

In 35 consecutive cases in which patients were admitted to a private hospital for alcoholism, antabus was contraindicated for eight patients and administered to 27. Sixteen patients, followed three to nine months, cooperated fully with treatment and did not return to use of alcohol. In four cases there was at least one episode of drinking, but the patients continued to cooperate with treatment and attained partial success. In seven cases, including three in which antabus was stopped because of organic disease, treatment was unsuccessful. Insufficient insight and lack of family cooperation acco

METHODS: Prospective disease-cost study. All medical and nonmedical costs for patients admitted with any stroke type or TIA were consecutively determined in 2016-17. All costs were adjusted to the gross domesti

Outcomes of rapid response team implementation in tertiary private hospitals: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Cardiopulmonary arrest may result in high mortality rate in hospitals where the rapid response team is not implemented. A rapid response system can recognize patients at high risk of cardiopulmonary arrest and provide the needed medical management to prevent further deterioration. The rapid response system has shown a dramatic reduction in mortality rate and cardiopulmonary arrest. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of the rapid response team (RRT) implementation in reducing the mortality rate, number of cardiopulmonary arrests, and number of ICU admission. DESIGN: A pre- a

Women's choice? The impact of private health insurance on episiotomy rates in Australian hospitals.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the extent to which variations in episiotomy rates in Australian hospitals are justified by clinical variables and to further explore the relationships between episiotomy, insurance status, perineal trauma and outcomes for babies. DESIGN: A retrospective analysis of anonymous medical record data using logistic regression models, aimed at identifying factors influencing both episiotomy rates and outcomes for babies. SETTING: A large regional public hospital, New South Wales, Australia. PARTICIPANTS: The study sample consisted of 2028 women who delivered vaginally during

Health workers' motivation was significantly higher in private hospitals than public hospitals influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors in Northwest Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Motivation of health workers is crucial for providing high-quality healthcare services and improving the performance of health facilities. However, less attention has been given to this aspect of workplace climate in hospital settings, and there is scant evidence on the level of health workers' motivation on healthcare delivery. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the motivation of health workers and its determinants at public and private hospitals in Bahir Dar City, Northwest Ethiopia. METHODS: A facility-based comparative cross-sectional study was conducted from November 3rd t

Moyamoya disease and moyamoya syndrome: A case series from multicentre private hospitals in Indonesia.

BACKGROUND: Moyamoya disease (MMD) and moyamoya syndrome (MMS) are considered rare in Indonesia, without any proper epidemiological data backing this claim. Hence, this case series aims to assess all MMD and MMS cases from the perspective of a multicentre private hospital in Indonesia. METHODS: This is a descriptive analysis using data from the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) from January 2019 to December 2023. The inclusion criteria included all patients who fulfilled the radiological criteria for MMD and/or MMS, while patients who only underwent brain non-contrast computed

Outcomes of hip and knee replacement surgery in private and public hospitals in Australia.

BACKGROUND: This study determined the contributing factors of hospital sector (private versus public) variation in revision rates after elective total hip replacement (THR) for hip fracture, and elective total knee replacement (TKR). METHODS: Using data from a large national arthroplasty registry, funnel plots for hospitals were generated, displaying the proportion of revised primary procedures. The proportion of outliers for each distribution was defined as the proportion outside the upper 99.7% confidence limit. Survival analyses determined differences between hospital sector revision rates

The impact of private equity acquisition of US hospitals on patient outcomes: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Private equity (PE) firms are increasingly acquiring US hospitals. While PE ownership may infuse capital and managerial expertise, restructuring by organizations with limited patient-care experience raises safety concerns. The effect of PE ownership on hospital outcomes remains poorly defined. This study evaluated the association between PE hospital acquisition and patient outcomes. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the impact of private equity aquisition of hospitals on patient outcomes. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed and Web of Science (inception to March 2026) was conducted i

Self-reported beta-lactam allergy in government and private hospitals in Cape Town, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Up to a quarter of inpatients in high-income countries (HICs) self-report beta-lactam allergy (BLA), which if incorrect, increases the use of alternative antibiotics, worsening individual health outcomes and driving bacterial resistance. In HICs, up to 95% ofself-reported BLAs are incorrect. The epidemiology of BLA in low- and middle-income African countries is unknown. A nationwide study of patients operated for cervical degenerative disorders in public and private hospitals.

During the last decades, there has been an increase in the rate of surgery for degenerative disorders of the cervical spine and in the use of supplementary private health insurance. Still, there is limited knowledge about the differences in characteristics of patients operated in public and private hospitals. Therefore, we aimed at comparing sociodemographic-, clinical- and patient management data on patients operated for degenerative cervical radiculopathy and degenerative cervical myelopathy in public and private hospitals in Norway. This was a cross-sectional study on patients in the Norweg

Utilisation and safety of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation in public and private sector hospitals.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the utilisation and safety of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) among public and private sector hospitals. AIMS: To examine the uptake of AF ablations and compare procedural safety between the sectors. METHOD: Hospitalisation data from all public and private hospitals in four large Australian states (NSW, QLD, VIC and WA) were used to identify patients undergoing AF ablation from 2012 to 17. The primary endpoint was any procedure-related complications up to 30-days post-discharge. Logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between t

Ten-Year Comparison of Medication Complications Rates in Public and Private Hospitals in Victoria, Australia.

Medication errors occur as a result of failure in the treatment process at any point in the healthcare system. This is a retrospective study aimed at determining the rates of medication-related errors over a 10-year period in hospitals in Victoria, Australia. From 2009 to 2019, the overall rate for adverse drug events, accidental poisoning and undetermined intent were 86.15, 1.3 and 0.17 per 10,000 hospital separations, respectively. Medication complications occurred more in public hospitals. Adverse drug events account for less than 1% of all hospital separations. Medication errors contributi

Maintaining the viability of private psychiatric hospitals: The role of independently determined health insurance payments.

Private psychiatric hospitals provide access to care for the approximately 46% of Australians who pay for private health insurance with hospital coverage. However, although private health insurance coverage has gradually increased, activity in private psychiatric hospitals has stagnated, particularly when measured by separations and Medicare-funded inpatient services. The funding and cost structure of private hospitals may be significant factors in this discrepancy because insurers are making record profits while private hospitals maintain that their costs are not covered. The burden falls on
