PURPOSE: During winter 2022, western New York faced 2 major storms with blizzard conditions and record-breaking snowfall. The severe weather resulted in power outages and travel bans. This study investigates the impact of these conditions on patient adherence to radiation therapy. BACKGROUND: Prenatal PM2.5 exposure has been associated with preterm birth (PTB), but evidence on exposure windows and population heterogeneity remain inconsistent.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort included 35,136 singleton births at a Chengdu hospital from 2015 to 2024. Satellite- and monitor-based PM2.5 exposures were estimated for conventional and fixed gestational windows. Logistic regression adjusted for individual characteristics, meteorological factors, conception season, and district fixed effects, with cluster-robust standard errors by district and last-menstrual-period year-month.

AIMS: Concern about crime is a significant barrier to the establishment of methadone treatment centers (MTCs). Methadone maintenance reduces crime among those treated, but the relationship between MTCs and neighborhood crime is unknown. We evaluated crime around MTCs.

Respiratory cryptosporidiosis is recognized as a late-stage complication in persons with AIDS. We report two cases of respiratory cryptosporidiosis in patients with HIV infection. Large congenital melanocytic naevi (LCMN) are associated with an increased risk of malignancy and neurocutaneous melanocytosis (NCM). We report a 68-year-old female patient referred to the Surgical Department of Erbil Teaching Hospital university hospital, Erbil, Iraq with the diagnosis of malignant melanoma of the right upper thigh of one-year duration. Six months after primary lesion, she developed a satellite skin nodule of malignant melanoma over the unhealthy skin of the anterior abdominal wall in direct contact with the primary lesion. She also had a pendulous abdominal wall. This kind of spread of melanoma is unusual, and of non-classical route. We also discussed herein, similar cases admitted to our hospital.

BACKGROUND: Transient elastography (TE) is a safe and effective technology to noninvasively assess hepatic fibrosis in patients with numerous liver conditions. TE is not readily available to all Canadians, and data regarding how this technology is incorporated into clinical practice are lacking.
