Case report of atypical undernutrition of hypoproteinemia type.

Albumin and prealbumin serve as vital markers reflecting hepatic synthesis activity and overall body nutrient status. Hypoproteinemia can result from various etiological factors, with reduced blood inflow into the liver due to portal vein thrombosis being one such cause. However, literature addressing this specific association remains limited. This report presents an atypical case of malnutrition involving a patient who experienced prolonged hypoproteinemia attributable to a gradual decline in hepatic blood perfusion caused by progressive portal thrombosis and cavernous transformation of the p…

Cyclosporine A relieved proteinuria and hypoproteinemia in DGKE nephropathy.

BACKGROUND: The DGKE gene encodes the diacylglycerol kinase epsilon (DGKε). Loss-of-function mutations of DGKE caused a group of rare renal … onephritis (MPGN). CONCLUSIONS: After a 5-month treatment of cyclosporine A (CsA), proteinuria and hypoproteinemia have relieved apparently. We also observed an improvement of his growth.

Congenital myotonic dystrophy with progressive edema and hypoproteinemia.

We report a patient with congenital myotonic dystrophy who had progressive edema and hypoproteinemia. An atrioseptal defect and patent ductus arteriosus were noted and were considered to be the cause of the right heart failure and edema. Although urinary protein levels were minimal, infusion of albumin did not improve the hypoproteinemia. Administration of dexamethasone increased the serum protein level, but the edema was not ameliorated. Autopsy revealed a slight lymphatic dilation in the small intestine, suggesting protein-losing enteropathy.

Hypoproteinemia as a factor in assessing malnutrition and predicting survival on hemodialysis.

Series of studies have described malnutrition as one of the main non-traditional risk factors associated with poor prognosis and treatment outcome in patients on hemodialysis (HD). The aims of this study were to evaluate the link between HD treatment quality and the nutritional status and to additionally investigate the association of malnutrition and overall survival. A total of 134 adult out-patients (56.4% male, mean age 60.8 ± 16.15 years) were enrolled in the study. Clinical and laboratory data were obtained from the medical records. Anthropometric measurements were performed prior to HD.

Severe hypoproteinemia as a harbinger of Ménétrier's disease in autoimmune pancreatitis.

Ménétrier's disease is an extremely rare disease of unknown etiology causing gastric mucosal hypertrophy and protein-losing gastropathy. Rare cases of this condition have been reported in patients with autoimmune diseases. However, to the best of our knowledge, Ménétrier's disease associated with autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) has never been reported. We described a case of severe hypoproteinemia as a harbinger of Ménétrier's disease associated with AIP. The patient was successfully treated with octreotide and high-protein diet, which led to symptomatic remission and significant improvement in …

[A Case of Huge Colon Cancer Accompanied with Severe Hypoproteinemia].

We report a case of huge colon cancer accompanied with severe hypoproteinemia. A7 4-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of abdominal fullness. Blood examinations revealed anemia(hemoglobin 8.8 g/dL)and sever hypopro- teinemia(total protein 4.5 g/dL, albumin 1.1 g/dL). Computed tomography examination of abdomen revealed ascites and large tumor(12.5×10.5 cm)at the right side colon. By further examinations ascending colon cancer without distant metastasis was diagnosed, then we performed right hemicolectomy and primary intestinal anastomosis by open surgery. Ahuge type 1 tumor(18×…

[Varioliform gastritis revealed by edema with hypoproteinemia (author's transl)].

The authors report the case of a woman in whom edemas with hypoproteinemia, but without digestive symptoms, were present for several months. Roentgenography, fiberoptic endoscopy, and histopathology showed typical varioliform gastritis. Hypoproteinemia was due to plasma protein leakage into the digestive tract. Edema disappeared spontaneously while gastric pain developed.

An Unusual Case of Hypoproteinemia in Childhood: Keep in Mind Trichobezoar.

Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is a rare condition characterized by protein loss through the gastrointestinal tract, leading to hypo-proteinemia. Patients may be asymptomatic or present with variety of complications of hypoproteinemia (e.g., oedema, ascites, pleural, and cardial effusions). We describe a case report of a young girl suffering from behavioral disorder since childhood who presented with generalized oedema, hypoproteinaemia, and microcytic hypochromic anemia. In addition, the girl had an intervention for jejunal atresia and intestinal malrotation in her past medical history. Upp…

Edema, hypoproteinemia, and zinc deficiency in low-birth-weight infants.

Three premature infants with zinc deficiency who had an unusual presentation with generalized edema and hypoproteinemia between 5 and 9 weeks of age are described. The infants were fed their own mother's milk, supplemented with a proprietary formula after the first 2 to 3 weeks of life. None of the infants had diarrhea, liver disease, or urinary protein loss. Treatment with oral zinc supplements led to rapid resolution of the edema, with an increase in values for serum proteins, alkaline phosphatase, and zinc. There was no recurrence of symptoms following discontinuation of zinc therapy 1 mont…

[Iron deficiency anemia and hypoproteinemia induced by fresh cow's milk].

We reported two patients who developed severe iron deficiency anemia and hypoproteinemia which were induced by excessive drinking cow's milk. Case 1, a 23-month-old girl, had started drinking 800-1,000ml of cow's milk everyday since the age of 9 months. She developed generalized edema at the age of 23 months and visited Saga Medical School for Treatment. Case 2, a 14-month-old girl began to drink cow's milk at the age of 6 months. She drank 1,500ml cow's milk every day at the age of 14 months. She was, referred to our hospital by her physician because of severe anemia. Hypoproteinemia and seve…

Control normoproteinemic animals (Norm/LR; n = 13) only received lactated Ringer's. Infusion of LR into hypoproteinemic animals caused a 7.9-fold increase in QL (P less than or equal to 0.05). By comparison, HES …

Toxemic shock, hematuria, hypokalemia, and hypoproteinemia in a case of cutaneous anthrax.

A 20-year-old woman who had daily contact with domestic herbivores presented with a painless and pruritic lesion in her neck; the lesion ulcerated to a black necrotic eschar from which Bacillus anthracis grew. Rapidly expanding edema at the site of the ulcer was followed by shock, hematuria, hypokalemia, and hypoproteinemia. The latter symptoms - unusual for cutaneous anthrax - responded to intravenous penicillin therapy.

Identification of Important Risk Factors for Hypoproteinemia in Polycystic Ovaries Patients.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the significant influencing factors of hypoproteinemia in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. METHODS: This cross-sectional investigation utilized data from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database. Multifactorial logistic regression analysis was employed to explore factors influencing hypoproteinemia. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and decision curve analysis (DCA) were conducted to compare the discrimination performance and net clinical benefit of influencing factors for hypoproteinemia. The XGBoost algorithm was us…
