Usefulness of hair analysis and psychological tests for identification of alcohol and drugs of abuse consumption in driving license regranting.

The implementation of the points-based driving license helps to change the drivers' behavior and is related to a reduction of traffic accidents and fatalities. In Spain, when a driver loses all points, the driving license is revoked, so the driver must enroll on a Driver Awareness and Re-education (DARE) course. However, at the moment offenders are not submitted to any test to confirm absence of alcohol or drugs of abuse consumption, even when 9% of Spanish drivers lose their driving license for driving under the influence (DUI). The objective of this pilot study was the comparison of the usef

Encouraging sun protection early in life: from a successful prevention programme in children to the identification of psychological barriers in adolescents.

Children and adolescents have high rates of sunburn and high levels of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure and are therefore at risk of developing skin cancer in later life. Minimizing UVR exposure in childhood and adolescence may be the most important component of skin cancer prevention efforts. Thus, age-adapted prevention campaigns, targeting children, adolescents and caregivers, are needed to change sun protection behaviour among individuals in these age groups. In the first part of this review, we describe the 'SunPass' programme, which was initiated in Germany in 2010 as the first natio

Talent Identification in Elite Adolescent Ice Hockey Players: The Discriminant Capacity of Fitness Tests, Skating Performance and Psychological Characteristics.

BACKGROUND: The process of talent identification in ice hockey occurs during middle adolescence when players are selected to participate in "off-season" evaluation camps, where coaches observe their fitness levels and status of development. Recently, the Quebec ice hockey federation opted for a holistic approach by evaluating players based on three criteria: (1) fitness, (2) skating abilities and (3) personality traits and psychological assets. This study aimed to analyze the discriminant validity of a multi-dimensional talent identification testing protocol in competitive ice hockey. METHOD:

Identification and characterization of alopecia areata subgroups regarding quality of life impairment based on demographic, clinical, psychological, and social factors.

The benign dermatological hair condition Alopecia Areata (AA) is known to impair Quality of Life (QoL), especially mental and social health, due to the accompanying visible appearance changes. Previous studies have identified demographic, clinical, social, and psychological variables related to QoL. Yet, the novelty of this study lies in examining how QoL differences in AA relate to (combinations of) these variables. The aim of the current study is to identify and characterize subgroups of AA persons with less or more QoL impairment by means of (combinations of) demographic, clinical, psycholo

Accuracy of the short screening instrument for psychological problems (SSIPPE) in enuresis in the Identification of attention-deficit/ hyperactivity symptoms in the enuretic population.

INTRODUCTION: Enuresis prevalence is approximately 5-15% in children aged 6-7 years. The presence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in enuretic children is associated with 3 times greater risk of persistent enuresis. The Multimodal Treatment Study for ADHD (MTA) Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham version IV (SNAP-IV) is one of the most used instruments to evaluate ADHD symptoms, but it is a time-consuming questionnaire. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to compare the accuracy of an easy questionnaire named Short Screening Instrument for Psychological Problems in Enuresis (SSIPPE) to MTA-SN

Experience and Health-Related Behavior in Times of the Corona Crisis in Germany: An Exploratory Psychological Survey Considering the Identification of Compliance-Enhancing Strategies.

Despite the need for enduring preventive behavior in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, several counteracting behavioral reactions can be observed worldwide. Considering the grave consequences resulting from such health-related risk behavior, we carried out an online questionnaire study to identify personal characteristics that frame a motivational sketch of those who refuse to follow the pandemic-related preventive measures. Our results from a sample of N = 570 German participants already indicate obvious changes in relevant variables in the four-week investigation period during the pandemic's i

Data-driven identification of distinct pain drawing patterns and their association with clinical and psychological factors: a study of 21,123 patients with spinal pain.

The variability in pain drawing styles and analysis methods has raised concerns about the reliability of pain drawings as a screening tool for nonpain symptoms. In this study, a data-driven approach to pain drawing analysis has been used to enhance the reliability. The aim was to identify distinct clusters of pain patterns by using latent class analysis (LCA) on 46 predefined anatomical areas of a freehand digital pain drawing. Clusters were described in the clinical domains of activity limitation, pain intensity, and psychological factors. A total of 21,123 individuals were included from 2 su

Community-based sport-leisure participation and perceived community psychological resilience: a three-wave RI-CLPM study of community identification and collective efficacy.

OBJECTIVE: In modern risk societies, community psychological resilience has become an important concern for community psychology and behavioral science. Yet less is known about how everyday community-based sport-leisure participation contributes to residents' perceived community psychological resilience over time. This study examined whether residents' community-based sport-leisure participation predicts subsequent perceived community psychological resilience and whether this association is explained by community identification and collective efficacy. METHODS: A three-wave longitudinal surve

Mental Health Identification Practices of Jails: The Unmet Needs of the "Silent" Population: Special Issue: Criminal Justice and Community Psychology: Our Values and Our Work.

The overrepresentation of individuals with mental illness in the criminal/legal system is well documented. While professional associations urge diversion towards treatment, little is known about the practices these institutions use to identify this population. One understudied space in the criminal/legal continuum is jails. This exploratory study compares two types of mental health identification at jail booking to assess jail- and community-based service outcomes by identification type (N = 2956): (a) staff observation and (b) a standardized screening instrument. Being oneself.

This paper discusses the difference between self-identification and the self/other differentiation. Self-identification relies on the congruence of self-generated movements and their expected consequences, i.e., on the temporal correlation between the set of signals (command signals, sensory reafferences) that are related to that movement. Only the origin of the movement (i.e., whether it originates from the self or not), not its destination or its goal, is relevant for self-identification. Self/other differentiation requires both that one can understand the actions others perform, and that on
