OBJECTIVE: To determine the pattern of bands present on an immunoblot (Western blot) in children with Lyme arthritis.
METHODS: Sera from 20 children with Lyme arthritis from an endemic area were assayed, and the results compared with those obtained in 162 control sera from the same area. The study was retrospective, serum bank based.

An electrophoretic transfer technique was used to investigate qualitatively the production of antibodies to Strongyloides stercoralis larvae in 56 patients with strongyloidiasis. SDS-PAGE analysis of the larval extract revealed the presence of at least 33-39 polypeptide bands under either reducing or non-reducing condition. To more fully define the nature of the antibody response to melanocytes which is associated with vitiligo, a Western immunoblot assay was used to test the sera of 28 patients with vitiligo (21 with active non-segmental, and 7 with stable segmental diseases) and 26 normal individuals for antibodies to antigens in detergent extracts of melanocyte membrane fractions. Autoantibodies in sera from patients with autoimmune blistering diseases were detected by immunoblotting with chemiluminescence.
