An ultra-short perineal pad-test for evaluation of female stress urinary incontinence treatment.

We assessed the reproducibility and feasibility of a rapid perineal pad-test designed for evaluation of stress urinary incontinence treatment. In an experimental study, we included 34 women with genuine stress incontinence, 13 with urge incontinence and 10 non-incontinent volunteers for a repeated pad-test with a standardized bladder volume (300 mL) and a standardized physical activity during one minute. The pad was weighed before and after the exercise to estimate the volume of any leaked urine. In order to find out the percentage of unselected, incontinent women who had been able to perform

The continence control pad--a new external urethral occlusion device in the management of stress incontinence.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the use of an external urethral occlusion pad (the continence control pad, CCP) in the management of stress incontinence. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Nineteen women (median age 47 years, range 36-72) complaining of stress incontinence were taught to use the CCP. The patients were assessed during the week before, and again after using the CCPs for 2 weeks, by urinary diaries, pad-tests and a review of their symptoms. RESULTS: Use of the CCP was associated with a cure or improvement in 17 women, as assessed by the number of incontinent episodes per week. There was a significant

[Ambulatory diagnosis of urinary incontinence among women: the role of a one-hour pad weigh test].

The aim of our studies was the evaluation of diagnostic usefulness of the 1-hour pad weight test in the different types of female incontinence. We examined 189 women at the age from 16 to 74 with the incontinence in anamnesis. The test was performed accordingly to the I.C.S. guidelines. The positive result of the test (more that 2 grams increase in the pad weigh) was found in 136 (71.6%) of examined women; including moderate urine leak in 24%, big in 55.1% and severe in 20.6% of them. The biggest average increase in pad weigh was found in urinary incontinence associated with the urgency, corre

Norfenefrine in the treatment of female urinary stress incontinence assessed by one-hour pad weighing test.

Thirty-three women with urinary stress incontinence were treated with the alpha-adrenoceptor-stimulating agent, norfenefrine (Nevadral Retard). Treatment was administered during 3-24 weeks at a daily dosage of 90 mg. Judged by a 1-hour pad weighing test, a significant effect could be demonstrated. With the exception of 1 case of allergic reaction and 1 case of recurrent vomiting, a simultaneously performed tolerability test revealed only minor side effects.

Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis-Like Skin Changes Induced by the Application of Absorbent Pads Containing Bacteria and Artificial Urine in Rats.

Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) is one of the most serious complications in older people with incontinence. Controlling urine property in absorbent pads could be effective for preventing IAD caused by bacterial urine. However, no animal model has been established to evaluate their effectiveness. This study aimed to induce IAD-like skin changes using absorbent pads containing bacterial urine and to confirm their pathophysiology in rats. Hairless Wistar Yagi rats were divided into the bacteria-containing urine (BU) and the bacteria-free urine (U) groups. A 10-h-attachment of absorbent p

Validation of Claims Data for Absorbing Pads as a Measure for Urinary Incontinence after Radical Prostatectomy, a National Cross-Sectional Analysis.

The use of healthcare insurance claims data for urinary incontinence (UI) pads has the potential to serve as an objective measure for assessing post-radical prostatectomy UI rates, but its validity for this purpose has not been established. The aim of this study is to correlate claims data with Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) for UI pad use. Patients who underwent RP in the Netherlands between September 2019 and February 2020 were included. Incontinence was defined as the daily use of ≥1 pad(s). Claims data for UI pads at 12-15 months after RP were extracted from a nationwide healthc

Comparison of the ICIQ-SF and 24-hour pad test with other measures for evaluating the severity of urodynamic stress incontinence.

This study compared the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) and the 24-h pad test with other measures that assess severity of urinary loss in women with urodynamic stress incontinence (USI). Ninety-five women with primary or recurrent (secondary) USI were recruited. Assessment of the severity of urinary loss was made using the ICIQ-SF, a 24-h pad test, continence questionnaire, Stamey grade, and 3-day frequency volume diary. The relationship between these measures of incontinence severity was analysed. The mean age was 54 years (SD+/-12) and median par

The diagnostic strength of the 24-h pad test for self-reported symptoms of urinary incontinence in pregnancy and after childbirth.

The clinical impact of incontinence in pregnancy and after childbirth is growing because some studies report the efficacy of physiotherapy in pregnancy and because obstetric choices are supposed to have significant impact on post-reproductive urinary function (Goldberg et al. in Am J Obstet Gynecol 188:1447-1450, 2003). Thus, the need for objective measurement of urinary incontinence in pregnancy is growing. Data on pad testing in pregnancy are lacking. We assessed the clinical relevance of the 24-h pad test during pregnancy and after childbirth, compared with data on self-reported symptoms of

The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form as a Substitute for 1-Hour Pad Weight Testing in the Evaluation of Urinary Incontinence in Patients With Pelvic Organ Prolapse Undergoing Surgery.

PURPOSE: Stress urinary incontinence is a postoperative complication occurring in patients with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Although the 1-hour pad test measures the degree of urinary incontinence qualitatively and quantitatively, some elderly women undergoing POP surgery do not have the daily activities of living to perform the pad test. Therefore, we examined whether the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form (ICIQ-SF) could be used as an alternative tool for pad tests. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 132 patients with POP. In our hospital, 57 patients we

Strong correlation between standing cough test and 24-hour pad weights in the evaluation of male stress urinary incontinence.

AIMS: We sought to compare in-office physical exam findings via standing cough test (SCT) versus 24-hour pad weights among men seeking treatment for postprostatectomy stress urinary incontinence (SUI). METHODS: A retrospective review of a single surgeon database of incontinence procedures was performed. Documentation of SUI severity (grades 0-4) was completed by SCT preoperatively utilizing the Male Stress Incontinence Grading Scale (MSIGS). All patients had pads per day (PPD) and 24-hour pad weights obtained. We determined the Spearman's correlation coefficient between these variables. RESU
