Paradoxical hypertrichosis and terminal hair change after intense pulsed light hair removal therapy.

BACKGROUND: Although complications such as blister formation, erosion, and post-inflammatory hypo- and hyperpigmentation are well-known side effects of intense pulsed light (IPL) photoepilation, little is known about the paradoxical hypertrichosis after therapy. OBJECTIVE: To report the paradoxically increased hair density and coarseness after IPL photoepilation. METHODS: Within a period of 23 months, a total of 991 hirsute female patients were treated with IPL for photoepilation. The IPL system used was the Vasculight-SR, a multifunctional laser and IPL system (Lumenis Inc., Santa Clara, CA

Photodynamic therapy activated by intense pulsed light in the treatment of actinic keratosis.

BACKGROUND: Actinic keratosis (AK), a hyperkeratotic lesion induced by solar exposure, is the precancerous lesion that most frequently develops into squamous cell carcinoma. Cryotherapy, topical fluorouracil 5, topical diclofenac 3% gel and, more recently, ingenol mebutate are used in addition to surgery. However, these treatments have varying degrees of effectiveness and are not always tolerated due to side effects. In recent years, photodynamic therapy (PDT), has asserted itself as a new effective and safe method for the treatment of actinic keratoses with almost no side effects. The aim of

Greater collagen deposition with the microneedle therapy system than with intense pulsed light.

BACKGROUND: Intense pulsed light (IPL) and the microneedle therapy system (MTS) are currently available for the treatment of scars. Greater collagen deposition has been proposed as a mechanism for the treatment of scars. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of IPL and MTS on collagen deposition. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-four imprinting control region mice were divided into three groups: untreated controls, treatment with IPL, and treatment with MTS. A single pass of IPL 10.5 J/cm(2) and five passes (total 15 strokes) of MTS were performed three times every 2 weeks. Four weeks after the last

Photodynamic Therapy Activated by Intense Pulsed Light in the Treatment of Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with topical 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) or methyl aminolevulinate (MAL) has proven to be a highly effective conservative method for the treatment of actinic keratosis (AK), Bowen's disease (BD), and superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC). PDT is traditionally performed in association with broad-spectrum continuous-wave light sources, such as red or blue light. Recently, intense pulsed light (IPL) devices have been investigated as an alternative light source for PDT in the treatment of nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSC). We herein report our observational findings in a

Clinical Application of Intense Pulsed Light Therapy and Radio Frequency for Treatment of Ocular Surface Diseases.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial condition in which tear film instability and inflammation play important roles in its etiology. DED can cause symptoms of pain, burning, grittiness, and decreased vision, which, if left untreated, can become increasingly more severe, resulting in damage to the ocular surface. Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy and radio frequency (RF) treatments have emerged as important modalities for managing DED, particularly in patients with underlying meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and rosacea. Both conditions contribute significantly to ocular surface inflamma
