Immobilization in external rotation versus internal rotation after shoulder dislocation: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

INTRODUCTION: Recurrence rates after primary traumatic shoulder dislocation are distinctly high. Whether the early external immobilization (ER) is better than the internal immobilization (IR) is still controversial. HYPOTHESIS: To perform a systematic review of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that assessed the ability of external immobilization to reduce the recurrence in patients with primary anterior shoulder instability. MATERIAL AND METHOD: As with the original review, we used the search strategies recommended by the Cochrane Back Review Group for the identification of RCTs. Thirteen R

Does exposure to internal cues enhance exposure to external cues in agoraphobia with panic? A pilot controlled study of self-exposure.

BACKGROUND: The value of internal (interoceptive) cues for exposure is under debate and so was tested in a pilot controlled study. METHODS: Outpatients with panic disorder and severe agoraphobia were randomised to 10 weeks of self-exposure to either (1) both internal (interoceptive) and external cues (n = 12) or (2) external cues only (n = 14). Both groups were trained in slow deep breathing and asked to carry out daily self-exposure homework. Neither group had cognitive restructuring. RESULTS: By post-treatment and follow-up all outcome measures improved significantly in both treatment grou

The dynamic control ratio and its equilibrium point: A preliminary study of isokinetic fatiguing internal-external rotational effort of the shoulder joint in healthy subjects.

The shoulder joint-related dynamic control ratio (DCR) is derived by dividing the peak eccentric moment of the external rotators (ER) by the peak concentric moment of the internal rotators (IR). However, given the inherent limitation associated with a single value DCR, an alternative approach is to calculate it at fixed angular intervals. This preliminary study aimed at exploring the variation in the DCR at a resolution of 1° and under fatiguing external and internal rotation exertions. Eighteen young men, 10 experienced and 8 without experience in overhead sporting activities completed two se

Emotional self-control and dysregulation: A dual-process analysis of pathways to externalizing/internalizing symptomatology and positive well-being in younger adolescents.

OBJECTIVES: There is little knowledge about how emotional regulation contributes to vulnerability versus resilience to substance use disorder. With younger adolescents, we studied the pathways through which emotion regulation attributes are related to predisposing factors for disorder. METHODS: A sample of 3561 adolescents (M age 12.5 years) was surveyed. Measures for emotional self-control (regulation of sadness and anger), emotional dysregulation (angerability, affective lability, and rumination about sadness or anger), and behavioral self-control (planfulness and problem solving) were obta

Immobilization in External Rotation Versus Internal Rotation After Primary Anterior Shoulder Dislocation: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: The recurrence rate after primary anterior shoulder dislocation is high, especially in young, active individuals. Recent studies have suggested external rotation immobilization as a method to reduce the rate of recurrent shoulder dislocation in comparison to traditional sling immobilization. PURPOSE: To assess and summarize evidence from randomized controlled trials on the effect of internal rotation versus external rotation immobilization on the rate of recurrence after primary anterior shoulder dislocation. STUDY DESIGN: Meta-analysis. METHODS: PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Coc

A prospective co-twin control analysis of internalizing and externalizing pathways for alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis use problems from adolescence through adulthood.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis use problems have a poorer prognosis when they co-occur with internalizing distress (INT). One hypothesis to account for the association between INT and alcohol and substance use problems (SUP) is that people engage in heavy substance use to reduce aversive affective states characteristic of INT (e.g. affective reinforcement). Whether INT operates as a cause or a shared liability with SUP (e.g. shared genetic and environmental risk) over and above an alternative cause (e.g. externalizing problems, EXT) remains unclear. METHODS: We tested INT as a de

Volumetric Differences in Cerebellar Lobes in Individuals from Multiplex Alcohol Dependence Families and Controls: Their Relationship to Externalizing and Internalizing Disorders and Working Memory.

Offspring from families with multiple cases of alcohol dependence have a greater likelihood of developing alcohol dependence and related substance use disorders. Greater susceptibility for these disorders may be related to cerebellar morphology. Because posterior regions of the cerebellum are associated with cognitive abilities, we investigated whether high-risk offspring would display regionally specific differences in cerebellar morphology and whether these would be related to working memory performance. The relationship to externalizing and internalizing psychopathology was of interest beca

Evaluation of Internal and External Hexagon Connections in Immediately Loaded Full-Arch Rehabilitations: A Multicenter Randomized Split-Mouth Controlled Trial With a 6-Year Follow-Up.

BACKGROUND: Full-arch immediate loading rehabilitations are now a widely used rehabilitation method that guarantees predictable medium- and long-term results. Numerous factors can influence its success and stability in the medium and long term. Among these the implant-abutment connection seems to play an important role, however there is still little information on which is the most suitable in this type of treatment. PURPOSE: The aim of the present multicenter split-mouth controlled trial is to evaluate whether external hexagonal connections (EHC) and internal hexagonal connections (IHC) can

Longitudinal predictions of internalizing and externalizing problems from parental psychological control through emotion regulation difficulties in Chinese Americans during the transition from adolescence to early adulthood.

OBJECTIVES: A robust literature documents parents' influence on children's and adolescents' emotion regulation, but far fewer studies have examined whether parental socialization and adolescent emotion regulation continue to have influence on adjustment outcomes in emerging or early adulthood particularly among bicultural youth. This study addresses this gap by tracing these developmental pathways into a critical transitional period, thereby clarifying the continuity of emotion regulation processes across adolescence and early adulthood. METHOD: In this longitudinal study, we examined whether

Bleeding control of an injury to the infrarenal inferior vena cava and right external iliac vein by ipsilateral internal iliac artery and superficial femoral vein ligation after blunt abdominal trauma in Korea: a case report.

Inferior vena cava (IVC) injuries, while accounting for fewer than 0.5% of blunt abdominal trauma cases, are among the most difficult to manage. Despite advancements in prehospital care, transportation, operative techniques, and perioperative management, the mortality rate for IVC injuries has remained at 20% to 66% for several decades. Furthermore, 30% to 50% of patients with IVC injuries succumb during the prehospital phase. A 65-year-old male patient, who had been struck in the back by a 500-kg excavator shovel at a construction site, was transported to a regional trauma center. Injuries to
