Digital Technology Access and Health-Related Internet Use Among People Experiencing Homelessness in Hungary: Quantitative Survey.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, there has been an increase in the use of digital technology for personal health and well-being. Previous research has revealed that these technologies might provide vulnerable populations, including those who are homeless, better access to health services and thus a greater chance of more personalized care. OBJECTIVE: However, little is known about the relationship between technology and health among people experiencing homelessness in Central and Eastern Europe. This study is part of a series of studies by the Digital Health Research Group at Semmelweis Universit

The promise of the internet for disability: a study of on-line services and web site accessibility at Centers for Independent Living.

The Internet provides individuals with disabilities numerous tools to live independently. In the convenience of the home, a person can access an abundance of information, an electronic community, updates on the latest disability advocacy news, education through distance-learning classes, and on-line shopping for books, clothes, assistive technology, and a host of other consumer goods. Centers for Independent Living (CILs) are consumer-run, non-profit grassroots disability service organizations at the forefront of the disability rights movement. Providing services to individuals across the rang

Women's Engagement With Different Internet-Enabled Technologies to Access Digital Menopause Information: Mixed Methods, Multiphase Sequential Study.

BACKGROUND: Information on menopause can come from a variety of sources, from friends and family to health care professionals, but increasingly, digital information has become a significant source. Digital information can be accessed online, through websites, social media, podcasts, and online groups or forums. The extent to which digital information on menopause is accessed and consumed can vary widely depending on individual circumstances. Existing literature has focused on investigating a single technology at a time in terms of digital menopause information, rather than exploring a wider ec

Internet accessibility and usage among urban adolescents in Southern California: implications for web-based health research.

The World Wide Web (WWW) poses a distinct capability to offer interventions tailored to the individual's characteristics. To fine tune the tailoring process, studies are needed to explore how Internet accessibility and usage are related to demographic, psychosocial, behavioral, and other health related characteristics. This study was based on a cross-sectional survey conducted on 2373 7th grade students of various ethnic groups in Southern California. Measures of Internet use included Internet use at school or at home, Email use, chat-room use, and Internet favoring. Logistic regressions were

Clinical characteristics of silent corticotrophic adenomas and creation of an internet-accessible database to facilitate their multi-institutional study.

OBJECTIVE: Silent corticotrophic adenomas (SCAs) of the pituitary gland present as clinically nonfunctioning sellar lesions, with normal serum and urine hormone testing results, but stain positively for adrenocorticotropic hormone in immunohistochemical analyses. These tumors are now more readily recognized, but determination of their natural history and responses to treatment is difficult because of their rarity. We report the diagnoses and outcomes for a series of patients with SCAs, and we describe the creation of an Internet-accessible database (www.hsc.virginia.edu/neuro/neurosurgery/pitu

Using the eSexual Health Clinic to access chlamydia treatment and care via the internet: a qualitative interview study.

OBJECTIVE: We developed the eSexual Health Clinic (eSHC), an innovative, complex clinical and public health intervention, embedded within a specialist sexual health service. Patients with genital chlamydia access their results online and are offered medical management via an automated online clinical consultation, leading to antibiotic collection from community pharmacy. A telephone helpline, staffed by Sexual Health Advisers, is available to support patients and direct them to conventional services if appropriate. We sought to understand how patients used this ehealth intervention. METHODS:

[A remote access system for inquiry of centrally stored data on patients suspected of malignant hyperthermia . A prototypical development for the Internet].

OBJECTIVES: Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is an inherited, potentially life-threatening syndrome of the skeletal muscles. It is a life-threatening complication of anaesthesia with a high mortality (8-10%). The risk of the patient during anaesthesia due to an overlooked predisposition for MH can be reduced by organisational measures, such as, all data of MH-susceptible patients and their families known in Germany must be brought together in a central register, MH-relevant data of patients must be readily retrievable, optional oral advice for those making an inquiry must be available. METHODS: To

Does internet access make a difference for older adults' cognition in urban China? The moderating role of living arrangements.

Since the mid-1990s, information technology, particularly the diffusion of the internet, has brought tremendous changes to communication and social participation for people in China, including older adults. At the same time, modernisation and urbanisation have transformed the way many people in China live. The traditional multigenerational household-older adults living with adult children and grandchildren-is giving way to other living arrangements, such as living alone or with a spouse only. Using wave 1 of the World Health Organization Study on Global AGEing and Adult Health collected betwee

An integrative review of the potential of wireless assistive technologies and internet of things (IoT) to improve accessibility to education for students with disabilities.

This research paper seeks to examine the challenges and opportunities for wireless technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve access to education for students with disabilities (SwDs). As technology integration into educational content and learning environments occurs, it becomes paramount for scholars to consider how the needs of students with disabilities are incorporated into these learning spaces. This paper synthesizes existing literature via an integrative review that explores barriers to accessing technology-mediated learning and the classroom. It also assesses the potenti

National, regional, and urban-rural patterns in fixed-terrestrial broadband internet access and cardiac rehabilitation utilization in the United States.

OBJECTIVE: Sparse patterns in fixed-terrestrial broadband internet access are predominantly observed among older adults and low income areas, which are interrelated factors also associated with low center-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) utilization in the United States (US). Telehealth CR is proposed to increase CR utilization under an assumption that fixed-terrestrial broadband internet access is readily available nationwide and parallels CR utilization demand. We aimed to characterize national, geographical, and urban-rural patterns in fixed-terrestrial broadband internet access, CR eligib

Internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection (e-STI) testing and results service: A randomised, single-blind, controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection testing (e-STI testing) is increasingly available as an alternative to testing in clinics. Typically this testing modality enables users to order a test kit from a virtual service (via a website or app), collect their own samples, return test samples to a laboratory, and be notified of their results by short message service (SMS) or telephone. e-STI testing is assumed to increase access to testing in comparison with face-to-face services, but the evidence is unclear. We conducted a randomised controlled trial to assess the effectiven

Accessibility, Cost, and Quality of an Online Regular Follow-Up Visit Service at an Internet Hospital in China: Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Telemedicine provides remote health care services to overcome constraints of time and space in accessing medical care. Similarly, internet hospitals in China support and provide remote health care services. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a proliferation of internet hospitals. Many new services, including online consultations and regular online follow-up visit services, can now be accessed via internet hospitals in China. However, the accessibility, cost, and quality advantages of regular online follow-up visit services remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to e

The interaction between gambling activities and modes of access: a comparison of Internet-only, land-based only, and mixed-mode gamblers.

Research suggests that Internet-based gambling includes risk factors that may increase gambling problems. The current study aimed to investigate subgroups of gamblers to identify the potential harms associated with various forms and modes of gambling. An online survey was completed by 4,594 respondents identified as Internet-only (IG), land-based only (LBGs), or mixed-mode (MMG) gamblers based on self-reported gambling behaviour in the last 12months. Results showed significant socio-demographic differences between groups, with the LBGs being the oldest and MMGs the youngest. MMGs engaged in th

Associations of internet access with social integration, wellbeing and physical activity among adults in deprived communities: evidence from a household survey.

BACKGROUND: There are arguments for and against the wellbeing effects of internet use, with evidence shifting from negative to positive over time, although the effects are partly dependent upon the population sub-group concerned. There are good grounds for anticipating that the internet could be beneficial to people living in deprived communities, but this group has rarely been studied. METHODS: Data are from a cross-sectional, face-to-face survey of adult householders (n = 3804) in 15 deprived communities in Glasgow, UK. Respondents were asked whether they used the internet and, if so, how t
