Ureteric Obstruction Caused by a Migrated Intrauterine Device.

We present an extremely rare case of ureteric obstruction caused by a migrated intrauterine device. A 36-year-old female with complaints of almost 10 months left flank pain presented to our hospital. She used an IUD for contraception for 6 months after the birth of her first child. The IUD was not visible then. Ultrasonography (US) revealed that left severe hydronephrosis and upper ureterectasis. Pelvic computed tomography (CT) found that IUD was located very close to the lower ureter which was adjacent to the third anatomize physiological narrow. Laparoscopy was performed to remove the migrat

Migration of an intrauterine device into the bladder: a rare case.

INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine device (IUD) application has been used for over 30 years and is a widely accepted contraception method among women because of its low-complication rates. The use of intrauterine devices may cause complications but migration of the IUD into an adjacent organ is rarely encountered. CASE: In the present report, we present a 26-year-old patient to whom IUD had been applied 2 years ago and whose examination performed due to pain and urinary complaints revealed migration of the uterine device into the bladder. CONCLUSION: Patients with pelvic pain and chronic irritative

Intrauterine Device Migration Into the Rectum: A Case Report.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are an accepted and popular method of contraception for women looking for long-term pregnancy prevention. There are possible risks and complications, yet migration remains uncommon. Here, we report a case of IUD migration through the uterus into the cul-de-sac and the rectum. A 27-year-old female without any notable medical history had a history of a copper IUD insertion after she had delivered her second baby with the aim of contraception. Six months later, an unintended pregnancy occurred which was delivered successfully. After five years of insertion, she felt li

Urinary complications of migrated intrauterine contraceptive device.

The study aimed to present diagnosis and management of urinary complications resulting from migration of intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD). Between May 2002 and January 2007, eight women were treated for urinary complications because of migrated IUD. Persistent lower urinary tract symptoms were the main complaint in five cases, while one patient presented with urinary incontinence and two had suffered from right loin pain. Diagnosis was established after performing noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) in all cases. Intravenous urogram (IVU) was carried out for evaluation of hydronephro

Intravesical Migration of an Intrauterine Device (IUD)-Case Report.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this article is to report the first case of intravesical IUD migration at our clinic and raise awareness of forgotten contraceptive devices and their potential complications. METHODS: We report a case of a 67 year old female who had neglected to remove her IUD for 20 years. She visited our clinic because of recurrent UTI's the previous year. After assessment and clinical investigation it was found that the coil had a late onset migration to the urinary bladder, with calculus formation, causing the patients' symptoms. The encrusted intrauterine device was removed en

[Intrauterine device migration to the bladder: four case reports].

The intrauterine device has been commonly used in our population for many years as contraceptive method. One of the complications is the device migration out of the uterus. One of the most uncommon fait of this migration is the bladder, with few reports on the literature. In this work, four cases are reported with their clinical presentation, study and treatment.

Intravesical migration of intrauterine device resulting in stone formation.

The intrauterine contraceptive device has been in use for many years, and migration of the device from the uterus to the pelvic cavity has been reported by many investigators. Although perforation of the uterus by an intrauterine contraceptive device is not uncommon, intravesical migration and secondary stone formation are rare complications. We report on a 27-year-old woman in whom an intrauterine contraceptive device (Copper-T) migrated from the uterus to the bladder and resulted in formation of a stone.

Hydronephrosis Due to Intraureteral Migration of Missed Intrauterine Device.

Migration of intrauterine devices (IUDs) to the ureter causing ureteral obstruction is an extremely rare event. A 45-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital with a complaint of pain in the right flank and inferior right quadrant of the abdomen. On genitourinary system ultrasonography, grade 3 hydronephrosis was found in the right kidney. On the abdominopelvic radiography, there was an appearance consistent with two IUDs, one in the region consistent with the course of the right distal ureter and the other in the usual localisation. The first IUD was thought to have spontaneously d

Intrauterine device migration resulting in acute appendicitis: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUD), a widely used contraceptive since 1965, has demonstrated efficacy but is associated with complications such as bleeding, pain, and rare occurrences of perforation. This case report details an IUD migration into the peritoneal cavity, leading to acute appendicitis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 33-year-old woman, with a history of IUD insertion 16 months prior, presented with pelvic pain. Gynecological examination and computed tomography, revealed the IUD intraperitoneal migration. The patient underwent laparoscopic extraction of

Intrauterine device migration into the bladder leading to stones formation.

An intrauterine device (IUD) is a popular method of contraception mainly used in developing countries. Perforation is one of the most serious but a rare complication secondary to the insertion of an IUD, while perforation into the intravesical organs such as the bladder is even more rare. A 30-year-old multipara in early 30s, with two previous caesarean sections (CS) and one curettage, was found to have her IUD puncturing the bladder during a cystoscopy procedure to remove her bladder stones. Transvesical migration of an IUD is an uncommon complication with a high rate of calculi formation, wh

Intraperitoneal migration of an intrauterine device (IUD): A case report.

INTRODUCTION: The IUD is one of the most widely used reversible, long-term contraceptive methods in the world. About 80% of IUDs are found in the peritoneal cavity after uterine perforation. CASE REPORT: A 27-year-old female patient presented with chronic pelvic pain with minimal metrorrhagia for 8 months on IUD. On examination, there was no IUD thread. Pelvic ultrasound showed a hypoechoic, heterogeneous, poorly limited formation measuring 3 × 2.68 cm. Abdominal-pelvic CT scan showed hyperdense supravesical material surrounded by a hypo-dense, well-limited collection measuring 26 × 25 mm. La

Early sonographic diagnosis of intrauterine device migration to the adnexa.

Uterine perforation is an uncommon complication of intrauterine devices (IUDs). Perforating IUDs can migrate to various locations but paradoxically are rarely found in ovaries or broad ligament. We describe an unusual case of a 23-year-old woman 1-month postpartum with an IUD translocation to the right adnexa. The IUD was inserted only 1 week prior to presentation, and she experienced pain on insertion. After visualization by ultrasound, the IUD was laparoscopically removed. We suggest early use of ultrasound in cases of potential IUD migration, particularly in high-risk patients and when IUD

Intrauterine device migration into the bladder with urolithiasis: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are the contraceptive method of choice for many women across the globe. Extrauterine migration of IUDs is a rare complication, with the intravesical location and vesical stone formation being an exceptional event. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 39-year-old woman with a history of IUD insertion four years prior to the onset of lower urinary tract symptoms consisting mainly of dysuria and pollakiuria. A migrated device was discovered in the bladder, resulting in stone formation. The bladder stone was successfully treated using laser lithotrips

Ureteral displacement due to a migrated intrauterine contraceptive device.

Perforation of the uterus is rare but potentially fatal. During puerperium when the uterus is small and its wall is thin, the risk of perforation increases. We report a rare complication from an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) which caused deviation of the right ureter in a 31-year-old woman who presented with complaints of insomnia and abdominal pain. Our case shows that perforation of the uterus by an IUD can cause a silent urological complication. The possibility of ureteral involvement and displacement should be kept in mind in a woman in whom a missing IUD is encountered.
